Joey Votto and the Reds are nearing an extension that will keep the first baseman in Cincinnati for a long time, MLBTR's Tim Dierkes and Ben Nicholson-Smith have learned. Dan Lozano of Icon Sports Group represents Votto. Terms of the deal are not known, but it wouldn't be surprising if the total contract value surpasses $200MM. Votto will earn a total of $26.5MM through 2013 on the extension he signed last winter. I suggested in January that an additional $161MM could be enough to keep Votto in place long-term. Though not directly related, the Dodgers' sale price of $2.15 billion can't have hurt Votto's leverage.

I'm privy to opening my eyes and reading, the article states that with this 26 million extension that an additional $161 million would do it based on a little simple addition I concluded that this would total about $187 million. We all know that Puljos signed a $240 million contract and Fielder signed a $214 million dollar contract. So with a little simple subtraction I concluded that he would be costing himself at least $25 million. April 2, 201214 yr ^Yeah that was a number suggested back in January by a writer. Doesn't mean it's even close to the grand total. You not surprisingly left out the part of the article talking about how it won't be surprising if the total deal is over $200M. That doesn't say a single thing about how much the extension is going to be for. Simple reading comprehension says that the numbers aren't known to the public.
