Covington Catholic 3 Bishop Brossart 2

in KY Baseball (High School)

Featured Replies

Final from Park Hills.

Battle of unearned runs.

CCH gave up 2 unearned.

Brossart gave up an unearned in the 7th for the winner.

Pitchers for both teams threw well.

Mader was impressive. Gave up 1 hit in about 4 1/3. However, in the 4th he imploded with an error on a pickoff, a balk, a HBP, and a few walks.

Tomlin threw well in relief for the W.

Arnzen had 3 hits(I think). Severson had the game-winner in the bottom of the 7th.

Nice first game for the Colonels. Huge crowd.

By the way, 2 REALLY good catchers in this game.

A win, is a win, is a win.

CovCath won this game but you have to stop leaving so many runners on Base as while CovCath had 8 hits, CovCath left 11 runners on Base.

Tomlin earned the W in relief of Mader who when you consider he only threw a total of 5 innings last year, was outstanding. Way to go Charlie!

Tom Arnzen had three hits (two doubles) a RBI and scored 2 runs.

Eric Schneider had two hits and a RBI.

Corey Severson had one hit and that being the winning RBI

Jake Lankheit had a hit

Brian Fagel as a CR scored a run

Seattle Stein had a hit

CovCath next plays Conner Friday at Dixie with the first pitch at 5pm

You could certainly see the impact of the new bats.

Great early season game. Brossart has four sophomores in the lineup regularly. MacDonald at 1st, Verst at 2b, Bauman in Right, and Rieger in left. Sophomore Connor Verst came on in relief of Zach Fardo and was the pitcher of record for the Mustangs. The side-wheeler kept the Colonels off balance for three innings before allowing the winning run.

Pretty good showing for the Mustangs today against the top team in NoKy in their house.

Amused that the scoreboard was out of order because someone stole the copper wiring out of the back of it.

Rough neighborhood!!!

I liked the way the youngster threw .

The pitching depth for CCH is crazy. I counted about 6 legit pitchers and I don't even know anything about the younger pitchers on the team.

What time does CCH play on Friday?

Has this been a problem this year for the Colonels. If so, then they will need to address it. It will certainly come back and bite them. What is CCH's record this year?

First game of the season, but a botched sac bunt attempt in the 2nd prevented a fly ball to right being a SF RBI and all three of the CovCath runs were scored with two outs in the inning.

CovCath is now 1-0 while Bishop Brossart suffered their first loss of the season and now stand 5-1.

BTW Northern Kentucky Sports.com had CovCath and BB as two of their top five NKy Baseball Teams this season!

By the way, 2 REALLY good catchers in this game.

I'm friends with the plate umpire for this game and he asked me today about the catchers as that's always his main concern when he's behind the plate :) I told him not to worry as they will be two of the best, if not the best, in the 9th Region this year. He sent me a text tonight and said I was correct, "they were awesome". I assume it was Lankeit and Norton.

Yes they were and please tell you friend thank you, as he did a solid job in his calling B/S as he was consistent throughout the entire game with his calls!

Huge crowd.

I believe that the run that BB scored in the 4th was a earned run.

1st batter 6-3, 1 out

2nd batter 7, 2 outs

3rd batter walked, man on 1st base

Pitcher threw a ball to the first baseman trying to pick off the runner at 1st base. The throw was wide to the outfield side of the bag and was low and got by the 1st baseman. E-1 IMO as the 1st basemen had no chance at fielding the ball due to the runner trying to get back to the base.

Runner on second base 2 outs.

4th batter was IW, men on 1st and 2nd 2 outs

5th batter HBP, bases loaded

6th batter while at the plate pitcher committed a balk forcing home a run.

From my understanding, a Balk is credited as an earned run against the pitcher.

If I am wrong then I am sorry but...... I am sure someone will let me know if I am....

It must be. They have a "no night football games" policy that many of the urban school districts across the country also have implemented. :scared:

[Couldn't resist. No offense to Colonel nation intended. And now back to our regularly scheduled programing.
