Great early season game. Brossart has four sophomores in the lineup regularly. MacDonald at 1st, Verst at 2b, Bauman in Right, and Rieger in left. Sophomore Connor Verst came on in relief of Zach Fardo and was the pitcher of record for the Mustangs. The side-wheeler kept the Colonels off balance for three innings before allowing the winning run.

 

Pretty good showing for the Mustangs today against the top team in NoKy in their house.

 

Amused that the scoreboard was out of order because someone stole the copper wiring out of the back of it.

I'm friends with the plate umpire for this game and he asked me today about the catchers as that's always his main concern when he's behind the plate I told him not to worry as they will be two of the best, if not the best, in the 9th Region this year. He sent me a text tonight and said I was correct, "they were awesome". I assume it was Lankeit and Norton.

 

I thought the ump behind the plate did a great job. Extremely consistent.

I believe that the run that BB scored in the 4th was a earned run.

 

1st batter 6-3, 1 out

2nd batter 7, 2 outs

3rd batter walked, man on 1st base

Pitcher threw a ball to the first baseman trying to pick off the runner at 1st base. The throw was wide to the outfield side of the bag and was low and got by the 1st baseman. E-1 IMO as the 1st basemen had no chance at fielding the ball due to the runner trying to get back to the base.

Runner on second base 2 outs.

4th batter was IW, men on 1st and 2nd 2 outs

5th batter HBP, bases loaded

6th batter while at the plate pitcher committed a balk forcing home a run.

From my understanding, a Balk is credited as an earned run against the pitcher.

Good question. I forgot the kid walked. However, the error moved him to 2nd which then led to the IBB.

Of note to the CovCath fans....

 

I will do my best to report the scores, highlights etc. about the games on BGP's as soon as the games are over with but like last year after the game is over, I have to return to work for about an hour and a half to finish my job.

BTW, I gave the third baseman of BB an error when he dropped the pop up in foul territory in the bottom of the seventh inning, so if you read where BB only had one error in the game, I have to disagree with the paper of not giving the fielder an error on that play.

Absolutely that was an error. It prolonged the at-bat which, by rule, makes it an error.
