GRC hyped up too much too soon
Rick Grimes replied to brooksville's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I’ve seen this thrown around on other threads on GRC. With the talent they had coming back and talent from other schools had transferring over. Some times it’s hard to find enough basketballs for all the talent to get theirs. Someone posted on another thread you can have too many weapons and while it sound ludicrous it is a possibility. Most would say that it’s a nice problem to have, but I would think it has to be a concern early. Especially when these kids have outside influences (parents, relatives, friends, AAU coaches, etc.) telling them they need to score more or putting false reality in their heads. No doubt GRC is the most talented team in the 10th. But they very well may not be the best team in the 10th. Now I’m not saying they won’t be there in the end but rt now they are playing mediocre basketball and are not the “head and shoulders above” team in the 10th. On paper they are 10-15 points better than the next best team. But we all know we don’t get the on paper stats night in and night out. And this is a stat driven game on the individual level and if a kid feels slighted or not getting theirs then they may start to force the issue and take bad shots or not make an extra pass. If all the kids start getting this mentality it will be a far worse problem down the road. I hope this isn’t the case but right now they are 3-2 will a blowout win over NC. The other 2 wins are by 6 points total (Scott by 2 and PC by 4) Their two losses are to Madison Central (21 pt blowout) and Campbell by 8. Just not as dominant as most expected so yeah I think all the hype in the preseason was premature. -

Deaton was impressive from what the stat line showed. While these high scoring games are fun to watch it’s alarming for coaches to be giving up that many points in a high school basketball game. Was there no defense being played? -

As long as these “terrible calls” were going both ways then it is what it is. By quickly looking over the update thread it appears that both teams had their foul issues. Maybe this game just shows us maybe There isn’t quite a big of gap from the regions top spot to the #2 spot. -

I don’t get down to that area of the state as much as I would like to watch games. Isn’t Taylor Co projected to win their region or is that something I heard/read wrong? -

Maybe that he’s not on the bench but not that he’s not playing at this point. Kid is what 13-14 yrs old? Tall and lean. Needs to get some muscle on that young frame. While I don’t doubt we see him at some point this season I don’t think coach is ready to abandon the game plan 2 games into the season. They just have a lot to figure out right now. -
George Rogers Clark vs Scott 12/2
Rick Grimes replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Been an interesting read to this point. Scott will be a good team and possibly win their district this season. But they just don’t have to horse power to keep up with the deep GRC team. As it’s been mentioned above the Cards have an abundance of weapons this season and agreed their top 8 can be starters most anywhere in the state. This game shouldn’t be a blow out running clock affair, but also won’t be a nail bitter. GRC wins by 8-10 and the game won’t be as close as the score will reflect. Cards 80 Eagles 71 -

Maybe adopt the North Carolina 4 corners offense. But still need a ball handler. I’m hearing speak of an 8th grader that could be pulled up. I’ve seen the young man play. He is as good as advertised. With that said the varsity game is far different than the middle school game, and Coach may not think he’s ready for the change just yet. But at this point it can’t hurt in preparation for the future. -

Man o man I knew Bracken would be down this year but I didn’t think they would be this down. I’m going to assume the press did them in again tonight. They struggled mightily with it against PC. On the other side of that looks like GC is off to a good start to the season. Running clock every game so far. Who else have they played? -

I’m just trying to get a chance to watch them play. I’m just a fan of basketball and want to see some good games. Even if it is Middle School :lol2: -

Mason has a lot of work to do. It’s going to be a tremendous amount of work to rebound from everything they lost last season. Reed is a great player but she will need help. Her and Moran while playing a lot of minutes last season will have to carry the load this season. Going from 5 weapons to 2 with limited experience will be a daunting task for the Lady Royal staff. Brad Cox is a great coach and will have them playing competitive ball but I see them around .500 for the season being considered a success. Call me crazy but I think the gap in the district has closed quite a bit while Mason is still the favorite Bracken can give them a run for their money by seasons end. -

Technically yeah, but the family’s roots run deep in Augusta. And it’s middle school so wouldn’t it be a moot point? -

I think that’s pretty obvious isn’t it? Talent level was at its peek last season. Didn’t get that coveted district championship they were seeking, but did advance in the region and made a run at Campbell but fell short. Now the talent level has dropped quite a bit with limited experience. That’s the case for 1-A schools. Nature of the beast in a 1 class system. Like it or not. Now they bye their time until the next crop of talent comes up which will be another season or two. Their cross county rival is going through the same thing. Augusta has been less than average since the departure of the big 3. Now they wait until an extremely talented middle school team makes their way to high school. And when they do look out. Loads of talent coming up. -

Rick Grimes replied to Mustang's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I hope it’s not that it’s Robertson Co has three new players. There’s others schools that have received far more talented players this season than RC received. Best team in the 10th had some very talented players move in this season. :idunno: -

Don’t sound like this one was very pretty in Falmouth. This season could be a long one if the bears don’t figure some things out. As for PC they look to be a dark horse for the region from their results in scrimmages and the season opener -
Short answer Robin Kelsch. Longer answer St pat is playing a b/g double header on BC senior night. BC took the position of if you don't want to seed then we are not playing you in the regular season unless you come to Brooksville and play. As long as Robin Kelsch is at the helm in A-town they will not vote for seeding and BC will not play them because BC isn't going to A-town and Augusta is damn sure not going to Brooksville. BC is firm is their stance and Mason Co is on board with them for the most part. Not so much for the other 2. What BC did with their decision urinated (word filter got me :lol2:) off Kelsch on a personal level and with his ego bruised he will never wavier on his stance.
