  1. Kayla Freppon also played with Gruenslaeger and Schulte under Fleissner as an asst coach. She went on to play at Xavier. She had a nice career.
  2. Thanks for the info. I always enjoy hearing about all the teams. I could be wrong but I thought Ruwe was a junior.
  3. Ryle 3, Newport Central Catholic 1: The Thoroughbreds dropped a home decision, 3-1 (23-25, 29-27, 29-27, 25-21). Rachel McDonald had 30 kills for NewCath. Teammate Mikah Freppon had 37 assists and Amanda Ruwe had 26 digs. Top-seeded NewCath takes on either Dayton or Newport in the 36th District semifinals on Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
  4. Congratulations to the 3 individuals who qualified from the 8th region. Parker Harris of Highlands, Drew McDonald of NewCath, and Cody Kellem of Grant County. Looks like Bourbon Co won the 8th and Mason is runner-up.
  5. Club volleyball is expensive. It also takes a lot of time to get the girls to practice and tournaments. What you may not realize is that the experience is worth it's weight in gold. My daughter has been playing competitive club for a few years now and her teammates are some of her best friends. The parents are very good friends of mine as well. We have traveled to some exciting cities and done some sightseeing along with her volleyball. It's not all about the games on the court, it's the overall experience. College isn't just about playing the sport either, it's about the opportunities it provides the student-athlete, the friends she's meets and the experience of doing something very few get the chance to do, while paying for her education at the same time. Is it expensive? Absolutely. Would I do it all over again for her of that's what she wanted to do? Absolutely.
  6. I don't think 8th graders have ever played varsity at NCC. I don't think they have in any sport. I'm almost positive they've never played varsity in boys or girls basketball.
  7. Wow that's impressive. Golf seems to be an up and coming sport, and not easy by any measure. Congrats to both young men.
  8. What about the officiating wasn't good? I thought they called an excellent game. They were consistent, let the players play the game, and let the kids dictate the outcome. That's what good officials do. The reason regions switch officials with other regions it to take all elements out of the game except for the game itself. I think it's a great move. That way the best team on any given night truly wins, no outside factor.
  9. Pretty much you ARE bashing the kids. Player development is not the sole responsibility of the high school coach. Player development is the responsibility of coaches, parents, and the players themselves....so you ARE bashing the kids.
  10. Against two top teams in the state that is...if you knew as much as you claim to know, you would realize it's about March, not December. It's about playing competition to get better. What people need to realize is that you are going to knock NewCath's program no matter what they do.
  11. Why would Tabor have to wait until Cundiff is gone to be good?
  12. Basketball doesn't get in the way of club volleyball, club volleyball gets in the way of basketball.
  13. Thanks Uncle Joe. One more question. After looking at the game schedule and brackets on http://www.kyhoops.org, why are there so many Div2 teams (18) versus Div 1 (5). I would have thought teams like TheVille and Wolfpack would have signed up for Div 1. Any thoughts? Do they know something the Hornets don't?
  14. Uncle Joe - Have you heard anything about the NKY Hornets (4th Grade D1)? I believe they just played in a tournaments at Hoops (Louisville) and played teams like Lexington Colonels and The Ville. I believe they finished second to The Ville?
