10 Good
  1. No HC internet coverage tonight. New software issues.
  2. Not at all the case. There's a good but young bunch of kids in the locker room. They are frustrated by their results of course and trying to look at it objectively (but not coming across that way I know), the fact that they were playing poorly and the way the game was being called by the 10th region refs/hacks had a lot to do with the behavior I saw. They haven't played a game remotely called like that this year and it admittedly appeared to get the best of them. That'll happen at times with young and inexperienced teams. That said, I hope Coach Schrand addresses it with his team. I never want to see kids with the name Holy Cross on their Jerseys act that way on the court.
  3. I think HC wins whether Frederick plays or not. They'll just have an easier time of it if he doesn't. Not having to spend any defensive energy on him would make a big difference. Bottom line for the Indians is that they are a very good team when they can make opponents pay for giving so much defensive attention to Campbell. Gabbard has really stepped his game up in a huge way the last couple weeks and Pouncy has been providing increased offensive production. When those two guys are hitting shots, which they have been doing lately, it makes them a really tough team to defend when you've got the big guy in the middle. Big Mo is on the Indians side ride now and I see them winning a fairly low scoring game to advance to the district championship against Holmes later this week.
  4. I don't disagree with you, as there's no way you build your entire defensive game plan around stopping Pauly, but in the last two games against HC he's probably scored about 30-35 pts combined and in both cases IMO has been the difference in the outcome of the game. Goetz simply (or not so simply I guess) needs a defensive scheme that does not give him absolutely wide open looks virtually every time he touches the ball. He's proven twice now that he can knock down that shot. You wouldn't need a whole lot of fingers to count the number of shot attempts he had last night that I would consider to have been contested.
  5. Yes Clyde - he's picked that poison 2 games in a row against the Colonels. Would think he won't make that mistake a 3rd time, but we'll see.
  6. Bingo Walter - you just made my case for me, but let me expound. I think there are only 3 players in the 9th that need to be in the discussion, Hatton, Campbell and Bolden. You can make perfectly legitimate and great arguments on behalf of any of those 3 guys and it would be hard to argue with who came out on top. I'd say 99 out of 100 times this discussion is based completely on what the players in the debate do on one half of the court and that is usually ok, but this time it is different. One of those 3 is just about the 9th region equivalent of Nerlens Noel on the defensive end of the floor - and no I did not say he is or will ever be as good as Nerlens - just that in our little high school world in NKY that is who he is. In fact probably puts up better defensive numbers than Nerlens. No one in the 9th, and certainly neither of the other guys in this discussion, impacts the game on both ends of the floor with rebounds, blocks, shots altered, drives not even attempted as a result of his presence, like Campbell. I absolutely love both Bolden's and Hatton's games, but when you take into account that the game is played on both ends of the court, Campbell is the POY by a comfortable margin in my view. On a side note, really HATE that they've already cancelled the Holy Cross/Dixie game tonight - freaking ridiculous!! This makes two years in a row that these two teams were scheduled to play but will not.
  7. Then you would have loved watching Pauly last night. Nailed 12-15 footers all night long. He was the difference in the game IMO.
  8. Looks like HC should jump at least one team in the poll next week - haha
  9. Granted not a year in and year out powerhouse in any sport, but I'd say the 70 or so kids that played on the three state championship teams at Holy Cross last year felt pretty good about their accomplishments, a number of whom have either already gone on or will go on to play at the next level. Restating your assertions KentuckyJoe, it is damn impressive that a tiny school in need of much repair, with no apparent athletic history or pedigree to speak of, and offering little chance for advancement to the next level in their chosen sport could accomplish so much in one year. Pretty amazing if you ask me. I don't know Joe - maybe it's just me, but if I didn't know any better I'd almost think you were perhaps maybe implying something with your post. I mean it was really subtle, so I haven't quite grasped what you might have been saying here. But I'll think real hard about it; maybe do some snooping around to see what I can find, and get back to you if and when I ever figure out what exactly it is about HC that would ever make a kid want to go to school and "play ball" there. Honestly, I am just as perplexed by the whole thing as you are. Deal? First comment denigrating All "A" State Championships coming in 3, 2, 1...
  10. I'd expect pretty vanilla game plans from at least one if not both coaches and predict a single-digit victory by the Indians. While winning this game is big for fans and players alike, I suspect that neither coaching staff wants to expose their hands too much with the district rematch looming out there a couple weeks down the road. In the grand scheme of things this game doesn't mean much if your eye is on the bigger prize, which I'm sure it is for both squads. All you need to do is look at HC's regular season win last year in Park Hills that didn't amount to a hill of beans when the district's rolled around. The first time match up between Goetz and Coach R does provide some intrigue though.
  11. Crazy as it might sound, I'd drop the Dixie game. That game if played would be the Indian's 11th game in about a 2 and a half week stretch, you've got a big-time emotional game against the other colonels the night before, and honestly you have little to gain from it other than giving Dixie some game film on you for what could realistically be a potential matchup with them a few weeks down the road in a much more important game. As a fan I would of course love to see this game happen, but as a coach I'd think seriously about dropping it.
  12. No one had the advantage or disadvantage. They were playing on the same floor.
  13. I'd have to say the postponment works in Holmes' favor. HC wants to wear you down over the course of 4 quarters with their depth, and it was playing big time in their favor with the Dogs having two starters in foul trouble at the end of the first. The Holmes guys will still have 2 fouls when the game resumes, but they only have to handle it over 3 quarters now. I still think the Crossbacks are the better, deeper team and will win, but this is something that helps the Dogs out a bit.
