  1. Taylor Sears Somerset High School 2011 commits to Morehead State University. A three year Starter for Coach Phil Grundy, he enters his Seventh season as a Briar Jumper having been the first player in the tradition rich program to make the Varsity roster as a mere Sixth Grader. As a Sophomore, Sears finished the '09 season with a .488 Average and 17 doubles, both among the tops in the State, earning him the Commonwealth Journal All County " Player of the Year" honors. Sears played summer ball for the Morse Mustangs and continued his success, batting .480 with 13 doubles and 3 Home Runs. Sears is the first of the talented batch of the 2011 SHS seniors to sign and the fourth Mustang as Isaac Smith (Bradley), Jacob Bodner (Xavier) and Matthew Honchell (Miami of Ohio) have all committed early. Sears joins several former 12th Region standouts to have signed with Coach Jay Sorg's Morehead State program, including 2010 signees Aaron Watts, Duran Elmore, Bud Morton and Noah Smallwood. Sears also plays strong safety for the currently undefeated and top ranked Jumper football team. The Briar Jumpers advanced to the Class 3A State Finals last season.
  2. Congratulations Coach Eddie Brooks and the Bryan Station players. What a great accomplishment and so quickly. Great Job.
  3. Why would hiring someone inside the Pulaski/ Somerset Community be such a bad thing. I thought Coach Thacker did a great job when he played against us so I think losing him will definitely hurt, but how can hiring a local coach be so wrong? I believe the people that were clamoring to have Thacker replaced will get a big dose of disappointment if they move out of the community to hire a retread from some other community or a Junior Varsity Coach that has not been through the constant politics of High School Sports and that is according to Somerset Die Hards politics is awful there. If they go outside they will be setting the program up for parents to run the show. Just my opinion. I also heard that SHS administration is looking to flip flop with Rowan County. That is an absolut Joke and another great move.
  4. I heard that the selection committee chose a player from both Wayne and Somerset. Wayne Co. was the Boston boy and Somerset was the Fitzgerald boy. I know that we at Rock had Perkins on the team and we lost the 1st round and had ours. The commmittee is a good idea and I agree with jumpermom the officiating for the SHS-MERCER game was terrible and I coached the home plate umpire in little league and he absolutely had an awful ballgame. The Jumpers still had a chance to win it but botched a suicide squeeze.
  5. 2 weeks ago I would not have given 2 plug nickels for Somerset to repeat, but after the way they dismantled Tanner and the Rockets in the District Championship I really believe that they are still the team to beat. See you guys at Region and GO Rockets!! Good Luck to everyone in all the regions. Play Hard!!
  6. The Deciding game will be at SHS on Monday. Who do you like in that one?
  7. My Rockets are average without Tanner on the hump, but Coach Bussell will get the other pitchers going by tournament time. Remember that Dakota has been battling a wrist injury since Florida.
  8. It looks like Somerset may have bit off more than they can chew with that schedule. What was Grundy thinking. I know that Somerset is pretty good, but Dunbar, Lafayette, LCA, Henry Clay, Greenup, West Jessamine all on the road. That is a really tough schedule!! I know that they want to play a good schedule, but that is out of control. They played poor defense over here, but still hit Tanner Perkins better than anyone else has this season. Take a lesson and schedule a little softer and in your Region a few times and get a few Wins.
  9. Good win for the Jumpers, but they are facing Tanner Perkins tonight and this one will set the table for District pairings the winner goes to 3-0. I am hoping to make it out to this one. It should be Perkins against Fitzpatrick for the Jumpers. I am excited to see if the Rockets can get ready for the Jumpers.
  10. I like my Rockets to win the 12th Region, but I will guarantee you that there will not be any teams lining up to play Somerset at tournament time. I like me Rockets a lot, but after Tanner pitches we do not have the pitching depth to matchup with Somerset or Mercer, but in a single elimination tournament anything can happen and often does. I also saw that Somerset has one of the toughest schedules in High School baseball. When you play tough teams errors are magnified in a tight game and nobody remembers them when you are 15 ahead.
  11. Why would the Jumpers look for a new Coach. I do not know Coach Thacker, but in my opinion he has done a great job at SHS and I remember SHS having a coaching carousel before Thacker and speaking of Coaching changes how is the Warriors coping with a 5-21 season?
  12. I see that Somerset ranked at #20, but no love for my Rockcastle Rockets. They beat Somerset 2 times last season. I have a lot of respect for Coach Grundy and his program, but we did beat them 2 out of 3 times last season and we have Tanner Perkins and Crew returning.
  13. Great Job Coach Thacker. It will be Somerset and Lincoln in the Finals. Anything can happen in the finals. GO JUMPERS. If Rock cannot go to state I need our District to pull us through and Lincoln better not look past the PC Maroons who are playing well!!
  14. I am a life-long Rocket fan and have seen the Jumpers 2 times this year and they are very capable of making a run. They handled the Rockets at home and I believe that if they can get back to the form that they had against us over here they have a real shot. My prediction is that Lincoln wins a squeker against the Jumpers in the Finals.
  15. Somerset will be the team to beat this year. With all but one starter back and the best coach in the region, they are a good bet to repeat.
