  1. and one more thing, just saw wasn't in my post (I hate these stipid touchpas mouse things..grrrr) The split crew approach is used in other parts of the state every week, Louisville for example, but as I said, that doesn't mean it will work here, but is worthy of trying it out. Ok, NOW I will really shut-up.
  2. Thanks, we appreciate it. There are several of us that will spend several hours a week watching and rewatching film, the same way the players do to improve. Also, just an FYI to make sure everyone understands, Split crew weeks are week 6 and 8, which are non-district weeks. There are other weeks that people may think that there are split crews when they are not. The reason for this is there are 3 crews that are not at full staff. So these crews require a person or two from another crew. But an effort was made so that split crews were done in non-district weeks.
  3. The split crew approach is something that was to be tried this season in Northeastern Kentucky. There is no attempt to get rid of any crews or an attack on any person. Now, with that said, this does not mean that it will work in our part of the state. However, it does justify trying it and seeing if it works or not. At the end of the season, it will be evaluated and see if it provided better officiating or not. To the one person that said their are only a few good cres and this just makes everyone bad, I take exception to. You have 8 crews of people that work long hours every year to prepare for a season to call these games. Do they get every single call right, no. Do they call everything exactly the way they the fans wanty, absolutely not. But all in all they do a good job. The very point that in the middle of the season, the fans have nothning better to discuss than if the crews are split or not, says something about the lacks of controversy. Okay, off my soap box now. Have a great rest of the season.
  4. Bonner is a beast! How tall is that kid? The first pass to him I thought was way overthrown only for him to jump up and grab it. He is a tremendous asset to the tomcats. the kids chasing the tomcat was indeed priceless. My hats off to the tomcat for participating in this in a positive manner. (7 and 8 year old kids, which they appeared will never remember this game or the score, but for their entire life remember chasing the tomcat) I have seen Tyler Jones play for years and am more impressed every time I see him, one word... STUD. McGlone and Hart will have plenty of things to work on Monday. While it was a great game and the kids played their hearts out, there were alot of mistakes. For starters, if you want to win on the carpey, you cannot commit useless 15 yard penalities. Officiating was excellently done. My hats off to the crew. High school football, its the whole reason we have Friday nights!
  5. Time out. I was TOTALLY being sarcastic and thought it would be VERY easy to tell that. Perhaps you should read a message prior to asking questions about it.
  6. Just ANOTHER example of what a great job Gary Morris does. a few years back, Mason County had an INCREDIBLE offense...in two games against Russell, they scored 20 points. Last year, O Cath, again, a great offense kept virtually in check. Then today, according to my calculations, Mercer scored more than 50 points in half of their games this season and over 60 in 5 of the 14, today, 15. Gary Morris can develop a defensive plan with the best of them and really to the kids what he wants. But lets remember, the kids execute it. As far as helping UK....ummmmmm Coach Brooks, Gary isn't really that good... nothing to see here...lol Fantastic job by Coach Morris, Coach McGlone and all of the staff as well as Russell players. I am very proud of all of you. With people telling you that you didnt have a chance and you would get beat by 3 touchdowns, you made everyone stop and admire a fantastic display of talent and heart. That is a lesson to be learned by many and remembered by all.
  7. I am not at all disputing the officials call on the punt, I was 80+ yards away and really have no idea what happened, but I want to clarify a point. I have seen several posts about the defender "killing" the punt by touching it with his hand. A defender can not "kill" a punt by touching it. The ball is live until it is recovered or becomes still. If a defender touches a ball that is still in motion, it is first touching, see rule 6.2.5. The receiving team has the option to take the spot the play ends (when ball is still or if picked up, at the end of the run, or at the spot of the first touching. Just wanted to clarify that the defense cannot kill it. What made the punt down was that the referee ruled the ball was motionless prior to being recovered by the receiving team. A good job of communication by the officiating crew.
  8. Just a little history, Ryan Parker is a 1989 graduate of Russell. As a hobby, he would write songs about sports teams. Some of his coworkers said he should do something with them, so he published them on the internet. He has had some good ones, particularly one about the Marshall crash that was being considered for the movie. He was asked about doing a song about Russell Football and Coach McGlone, which he did so proudly. His web site is http://www.ryanparkersongs.com That is the scoop.
  9. on the swinging gate, there are generally one of three penalities that may be called: first, if the center touches the ball, there may be no movement on the lineman. This would be a false start. second, if the linemen, when they shift, cross into the neutral zone. or lastly, if during the snap there are not enough people on the line of scrimmage. This happens alot when they snap while the line is over to teh side instead of reshifting. On #2. you don't specify if the ball crosses into the end zone. If the ball breaks the vertical plane of the endzone, it is immediately dead and is a touchback. This rule differs from college and pros. If it does not break the vertical plane of the goal line, then the receiving team may have the choice of the result of the play or at the firsat touching by the kicking team., which would be where he bats it.
  10. Guys, I am hearing alot about schedules next year and with so many more openings than before, does anyone have the proposed schedule for either team???
  11. Definately true.. However, the field position game can be very crucial. Having a punter that can make the oppositions average start inside of their 30 is very nice to have.
  12. okay, your opinion and reasoning?? In high school football, is it better to have a top rate place kicker or a top rate punter??
