  1. Interesting post.

However, I think your point about Gillispie being "on top of the world" around the time he took the UK coaching job is open for debate. Clearly, Gillispie's alcohol addiction did not commence in Lexington, and this problem has surely been taking his life in a negative direction for quite some time.

Heck, if the reports about Gillispie now getting serious about addressing his addiction problem are true, then a case could be made that his life is in a better position right now then it has been in a long time.

One last thing... I remember that even at the time UK hired him, there was a lot of talk about Gillispie having a drinking problem (I think he may have had one or more DUIs in Texas). In my opinion, a university is making a mistake whenever it hires someone with a drug/alcohol addiction problem. Doing so is just asking for trouble.

I agree with you on this if he is really addressing his addiction problem to me thats more important, from a personal standpoint, than any level of basketball.:thumb:
  2. Miller sat a lot in the first half. Seemed as if he and Coach Evans had some trouble.

Miller came out of the locker room at half time red faced and teary eyed. I'm not sure what the issue was, but there was one.

South did an excellent job defending him, face guarding him the majority of the game. Miller got very frustrated early and forced some jumpers. He also did not do anything on the defensive end and stood around a lot.

Not a good night for Cody Miller, but I'm sure he will rebound nicely. :thumb:

IMO he needs to step it up he has alot of potential to not go 100% all the time. Maybe he has had his way before and its not working out that way now, don't know this at all, just guessing.

  3. South Laurel has beaten Knox Central by some large margins over the past several years, including:

    78-54 in the 2006/2007 season

    92-39 in the 2005/2006 season

    88-59 in the 2005/2006 season

    98-53 in the 2004/2005 season

    87-35 in the 2004/2005 season

After looking at these scores I guess this was a somewhat normal Knox and South game, man 92 to 39 in 05-06 was a major beat down.

  4. What about what this has done to all the small buisnesses across SE KY. who have donated year after year to the 13 region tournment. They get very few chances to get any kind of small return back from the tournment except when it is held in their community. I can't believe school officials are so lazy that they can't at least work once every few years to host a tournment to give back to small business in their community who have supported them over the years. School officials (state workers) we all don't get teacher retirment and and 40 hour work weeks, we the small businesses in SE KY. have to reley on these type of events when they come around. If someone has not explained to you that times are really tough, let me be the one:this country is in the worst shape it has been in since the great depression. People are loosing their jobs everyday, we really appreciate your consideration when making these types of decissions without asking the small business what they think.

Personally I think this move is a good one for all schools not just a select few and what kind of business do you have that depends on something that comes your way only every 8 to 12 years anyway? This event should be whats best for the kids who play the games.

  5. Smith would be next in line and would have no problem with it I think Travis wll be a big key for the hounds. But Johnson and wilson are two corbin has to have on the court if they are going to make a run this season.

I agree a totally different type point guard than Wilson but very capable and if he stays healthy a star in the making. As for the game Clay will be hard to deal with at home, Clay 62 Corbin 59.

  6. I'm going to be honest here, I have played on many college floors that look about that bad.........and a ton of HS floors.

I would guess many of the players on the team have played in a lot worse gyms as well. It does seem odd for a major college basketball event though.

  7. I'm sure the 12th region coaches were glad to see both go, it made the road to Rupp a whole lot easier for them. I always felt it made no sense to drive past both schools to get to teams in the 13th. Rockcastle, Jackson Co. etc.. It would be interesting to see how many 13th region championships in all sports North and South have won in the 13th since being here. Schools like Whitley (this is their thread) and all other schools have had to step it up a notch to compete and thats a good thing.

  8. When they moved from the 12th to the 13th, ... most of the teams in the 13th did not want both of them in their district. This was a way to make the move smoother. That's what I was told when it happened.
My guess it would not have been most of the teams in the 13th, looks like they would have been in the Clay Co. district together so the KHSAA gave that district the lesser of two evils and put South in the 50th. Clay could have had a say in that, maybe not.
  9. All of this Arena talk is a bunch rubbish. We build a facility capable of hosting this tournament and after the fact of us spending millions of dollars on such facility, someone has the bright idea to centralize the location? Not in my lifetime if I have anything to do with (and I probably will not...lol).

If The Arena had never been built this would not even be an issue. Our school was planned and construction began before "The Crystal Palace" was ever considered. The people of Harlan County, our facility, our economy, our taxpayers, and our kids deserve the opportunity to host this tournament and we will not stand for this EVER.

How about this for a plan...Draw a line in through the center of the region. The schools in that end that have not the facilities, either rotate contract with other schools or The Arena to host, and Pineville & Harlan (if they so choose) rotate contracting with Bell Co., Middlesboro and Harlan County or The Arena.

:ohbrother: I would say you are right about no issue if there were no Arena, but there is. I don't recall anyone calling it a "Crystal Palace", but you, what name have you gave your impressive (and it really is) school? You may never stand for a change but there are 16 other schools involved not just you. I would think your school would do a great job of hosting a regional tourney. I'm sure the millions spent for HCC was spend more for the educational process of their students than hosting a basketball region though.
  10. Wow all schoos were to share 13th regional money since 1994. Wonder how much money that would involve over 14 years? If 17 schools only were to get 500 dollars each year(I would guess the cut would be higher) thats 8,500 dollars per year for 14 years thats 119.000 Why would the schools not have this info.? May be a lawsuit waiting to happen with this.
