Republican Convention Discussion
True blue (and gold) replied to Clyde's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
Whether I like him or not, you have to be proud as a father to have your daughter speak so highly of you. I thought that Ivanka was excellent. She was genuine. What a relief to hear a speech about Trump and not about Hillary. -

Maybe we can put those in a thread along with the videos where Donald Trump says that he is pro-choice. -

Montel Williams Responds To Bill O's "Coward" Comment

If O'Reilly did, as his daughter testified, drag his ex-wife down the stairs, then yes, we know who the "coward" is. -

Originally, my opinion was that Cruz did the right thing and that I wouldn't support someone who said those things about my father or spouse, regardless of a pledge. However, my opinions now is that he should have just declined to speak. -

Thanks. I knew that something had occurred but it wasn't as simple as I thought. -
TX Voter ID Law Struck Down By Appeals Court
True blue (and gold) replied to Clyde's topic in Kentucky / National Politics
When this last came up, mom was bedridden and it would have been very difficult to get her to the courthouse to get an ID. It would have added to her depression if she couldn't have voted. One of the things that she was most proud of was voting in every primary and election throughout her life. I'd say that many in nursing homes would have the same issue. Maybe some sort of mobile cart for obtaining IDs could visit nursing homes and those for whom travel is difficult. -

I thought that back during the debates Trump never agreed that he would support the R candidate if he did not get the nomination. Can anyone remember if that's correct? -

Well, true. I never heard him mention Trump's name, but he was very anti-Hillary and anti-Obama. -

Can someone fill me in on why Cruz is done and why the crowd turned. I thought that I was listening to his speak on the way home around 9:45, but don't remember there being anything extra controversial. -

I've shared this before but my mother didn't have a photo ID the last 15 or so years of her life. She stopped driving in her 50s, didn't have a checking account or credit card, didn't travel, ect. She had no need for one. She never missed an election, voting absentee once she was bedridden. -
Another police officer shot and killed
True blue (and gold) replied to All Tell's topic in Controversial Issues
Also, for those wanting buildings lighted, such as blue for police officers, we can start with that at home. We can put colored light bulbs in our porch lights, based on what we each want to honor. Of course, multi-color may be hard to do. -
I appreciate those of you that are sharing your memories of the event. So cool to hear those perspectives.

That's a good one. Let me also recommend, "When We Left Earth." It's the best documentary I've ever seen. It chronicles the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions, in addition to the Space Shuttle and the Hubble Space Telescope. I show it to my Astronomy students and they absolutely love it.

Great points and examples. With the whole "lighting up" of objects being sort of pop culture now, I don't have a problem with it in general. I remember the many, many places lighting up purple for Prince, including lots of singers on tour doing it during a tribute of "Purple Rain" for Prince. The problem, as you mention, if you aren't doing it every time something happens, whether it is happening across the county/world or not, it comes off as biased. -

I don't believe that MJ is defending it at all. He's saying that the percentage is high enough that universities would take action. For UK, this would mean a failed course with a notation showing that the class was failed due to cheating. -
Great. Since the answers are actually known, we can shut down this thread. If someone wants to discuss Social Security (without targeting it at specific people) in a new thread, that's fine.

Let's all remember that we are NOT making political comments personal. This includes calling out others to answer unsolicited questions. We are at the point in this election that it would be a shame for people to lose out on the right to post in the Political forum.
