  1. Austin Hill is a man amongst boys. It was a pleasure to see his leadership, dedication, and all out awesome play this year. Can't wait to see him play his senior year and wish him the best at the next level. Football or Basketball, some university is going to get themselves a fine athlete!

I was very impressed the way this young man plays the game. He is a great talent. What position did he play in football? All I remember about Holmes in football was Duran running all over the field making everybody look slow!

  2. I've seen SK many times and dont think they can handle Shelby CO. Why don't these two teams play in the regular season?

Don't quite know, but should have! Have you seen Shelby play? I've looked at there wins and losses several times. I remember them beating a very hot Holmes team at the 5/3 tourney by 12. Seems to me they sometimes play up to the level of there opponent.28-3, you have to be doing something rite!!

  3. You guys have it made. Estill Couny in the 14th region had to drive about 100 miles to Hindman( KnottCounty Central) for their tournament.

I would guess, by geograpy, you have a lot worse roads to travel as well. We have been spoiled to be in a small region, by size, where we would have a twenty minute drive tops. Everything is different, change is good though.

  4. Congrats to Steiner and the team for their first 8th region win....lets not stop here!! I really wish I could go and watch the game Friday but I am getting back surgery that morning. So the Pioneers are gonna have to pull this one out so I can go to the next one depending on when it is. I have been to every game this year except for this one coming up. And SK has improved in some category every game. Seems like they are coming on to their game at the right time.

Good luck with the surgery. I think the turnout on Friday night will be a lot better being on the weekend. I hope to see some decorated cars going down I-71!

  5. I am aware of all of that. I am just pointing out that SK fans need not look down their noses at the rest of the 8th region.

Donta Smith played JUCO, was on his way to UL when the NBA came calling. Drafted late first or early second round by Atlanta Hawks. Now in NBA developmental league i believe.

Coach Drury has been at Anderson for awhile as Asst. and head coach( Mack The Knife can probably help us out on this one.) Anderson is not very big. Best player probably Dustin Aldridge 6'3 SR, C.J. Penny 6'3 FR is another player of note. They lost to Shelby by single digits in District final and had one point lead at half.

There is alot of luck involved in winning state title. In Shelby's case as you mentioned above. But Lady Luck smiled on SK in the 1981 33rd District Tournament .With SK facing elimination, Walton Verona had two point lead with seconds to go when a Walton player missed front end of one and one.

SK rebounded miss and Ponzer hits desperation shot to send game to OT. The rest is history. I guess that means the 8th region can add another state title to its list since SK now resides in 8th ;) .

:thumb: Great post, I was there for that Walton game at Boone Co.. It's strange how history can be totally different with the blink of an eye.I think of that Walton team often and wish they would have have had an all A tourny back then. They would have had an excellent chance of winning it if they could have beaten Virgie. I just remember that Anderson kid from walton, he was a great player!

  6. holmes up 16 and everything began to be called for ncc and nothing for holmes...boone county, same story...also against boone arrez henderson didnt even play because of an injury...im really not trying to make excuses..the better team won THAT NIGHT..are boone and ncc better than holmes? not even close but those two nights they were....interesting to see if Holmes and NCC meet up again in the semis

I was at this game and am not a fan of either team. The game was called decent, not perfect, but not enough to wine like that. Holmes simply got out hustled and outplayed in the second half and lost.

  7. SK fans should not overlook Anderson Co. They are headed by one of the best and most respected coaches in the 8th region in Glen Drury, who has won an 8th region title before(1997). Anderson will play hard and very physical. Although i have never seen SK's Mike Hester play, I hear he is very good . Some SK fans on this board seem to think the 8th region has not had good players or teams before SK graced us with their presence. The 8th has produced NBA players in very recent years( Donta Smith-Oldham Co), state champions ( Scott Co 1998), (Shelby Co 1978) and numerous wins in the sweet 16 over the years. The mighty 9th region has produced one state champion( SK 1981). I would not be surprised if Anderson upends SK on Tuesday.:irked:

Has that coach been there long? What kind of size do they have? I remember Donta Smith in high school playing in Rupp and he was sensational. I can't remember where he went to college and didn't know he went pro, that's good stuff! The mighty 9th as you called it came close to winning state numerous times but couldn't close the deal. Maybe if the referees in 1978 would have seen Mr. Charles Hurts (sp?) hand up through the rim "blocking" a shot the 9th would have another one, but as it stands my Pioneers are still the only team to get one. The above statement about the 78 game was the worst officiating I had ever seen. As far as having good players come out of the 9th, I could go on for a while but i'll just mention one. Dave Cowens was a Newport Catholic grad I believe in 66 or so. He went on to become an NBA MVP and was named to the NBA top 50 of all time with guys like Jordan, Magic, etc, etc.

  8. No I cant wait to see SK play and to be honest if comes down to SK and Shelby I will be pulling for SK. I just get tired of hearing this one guy complain about how week the 8th is and how great the 9th region is. I look forward to watching SK play, and hopefully GC will be playing them Friday nite.

Yes, hopefully they will. They lost the last time to OC by 14,maybe the coach seen something to close the deal. Thanks for the support if SK makes the final as they will need it!

  9. Why don't you move your alliances to another school, so you can stay in the great 9th region.

Sorry man, I went to SK , win with SK and lose with SK. That will never change! If I wanted to sell out I would have moved to a particular town in Campbell Co. and turn my nose up at the entire state! :irked:

  10. I love Mike Hester, he's a great player, but the 8th region is very very strong, I wouldn't become too confident. I believe Hester will get his every night though, I think the bigger question is whether or not the rest of the team will step up. Strong play from the inside is a must if Simon hopes to make a Cinderella run towards the sweet 16.

Very true! Time to lace them up! One thing though, the 8th is very top strong and not strong though out the region, like the 9th.

  11. Heil has been gone for a long time actually, no he didnt play in that game. Conner lit it up in the 1st half of that game and NCC was cold as ice and they didnt take advantage of Keirnan. IN the 2nd half NCC came out and pressed the Cougars and got back in the game giving them a shot down the stretch. I think Keirnan had a bunch of 2nd half points. I was not impressed with Curry in this game atleast the 1st half which is all I saw... he looked great in pre-game with the dunks but he could not stop Keirnan and when Keirnan wants to score he pretty much can. Conner will have to build a fence around Keirnan and hop the Breds are not raining 3's.

Heil, walked off the court a couple of weeks ago when NCC played Holmes, don't know if he was in trouble before that, but the Breds are better without him!
