All middle school students at the parochial schools in the Diocese of Lexington are eligible to participate on Lexington Catholics 6th, 7th, or 8th grade teams. Some of the parochial schools are small and would not be able to support a football team.

Everything is the same. Offense, Defense, from Varsity, to JV, to Freshmen, to the Middle School teams. Terminoligy is the same.

Lex Cath JV played Cincy ST.X last year. Lost by 2-3 TD's. LC Freshmen lost to Louisville St X by 2 TD's last week.

Lexington Catholic Freshmen football team will travel to Colerain and play at 5:30 this thursday.

What kind of multiplier would have put Cov Cath in 4A under the past system? Their population x2 is what I believe was used(as other non-coed schools) and that landed them in 3A.

Question: I work at Lexington Catholic. If I enroll my son in a public elementary/middle school, did the public school system "steal" my son from the private system?

The instructors were all top notch, and there was a lot of energy, despite the heat. Heard there was a kid from Tennessee, that is going into his sophomore year, that was named best camper.

Will Propsal 2 be changed to require students to change systems in 4th grade, when the complaints continue? I still don't see this curtailing illegal recruiting. It's just going to happen at earlier stages. It's probably already happening now. Instead of persuading students to enter the system by 7th grade they just have to catch them earlier. There are AAU players across the country in 3rd, 4th, 5th grade that are ranked. It's going to happen.

This year, before the draft, the Commissioner met with the teams and the scouts and either put in a rule or an order to cut down on the signing bouns money. I think that it is in an effort to discourage as many high school players as possible to go to college.

Lexington Catholic is the only Lexington School to win a Football title in over 20 years. Henry Clay, Dunbar, Bryan Station, and Tates Creek all made it to the title game in a 5 or 6 year period (95-00?), but all lost.

Here is the difference IMO. oldonetechnique replied that multiple schools in Lexington do this now. That is correct but there is a key word: NOW I played for Bryan Station in the mid 90's, and without a doubt had the best collection of talent in the city, and probably the state. We never made it past Shaun Alexander and Boone Co. in the Region Finals, and our squad was vastly superior in talent, but they had the better team. The summer of my senior year, a small group of players would get together and work out, but my friends who played for Lexington Catholic were doing things that were a lot more structured in the summer. IMO, the reason that Lexington Football has not made up ground that I believe it will soon, is that the summer and off season structure has not been at the level it needed to be. Now, many High School programs are set up like small level colleges, and have to be to keep up. I didn't see that in the Lexington Public high schools when I played. The fact that it happends now is good, but I think it takes some time to have that type of setup develop your program.

In Fayette co., af far as I know and remember, the high school you go to is not determined by the middle school. It is determined by your residednce within a High School District line. The public middle schools have district lines, as do the high schools. Most kids who go to Middle school A, will go to a corresponding high school, due to the way the districts are drawn, but it is not always that case. Because of that fact, and other things my friends and I talked about last night, we came up with some questions we felt would be very important to answer with this situation. If all high schools will be made to identify thier feeder schools for Prop. 2, what kind of stipulations will be placed on schools? I see this Proposal as a way to limit the area which schools can draw students(athletes) from. Many are upset that some schools have students(athletes) from what they consider to be "out of district" or out of the area. I am sure that because many feel this way, some type of stipulation will be placed on who the High schools could determine to be a feeder to them. In Lexington, you have 5 public high schools, Lexington Catholic, Lexington Christian, and Sayre School. Each of the public schools has district boundaries, which may be crossed to enter a magnet program, and when I was in school 10 years ago, you could cross those bondaries to join one of the ROTC programs if not offered at your schoool. I assume you still can. You can attend Lexington Catholic if you live in the Diosece of Lexington-which covers not only the surrounding counties, but also stretches to Eastern and Southern Ky, all the way to the Tennessee border. I am not currently aware of any bondaries that Lexington Christian or Sayre have. When the decision is made to determine your feeders, will or can the schools in Fayette co. (both public and private) list schools that they currently get students from-both public and private, or will they be limited? Will the public high schools be forced to only list public middle schools, and private schools only private middle schools? I don't know if this scenario will happen, but I'm sure that some restriction will be placed on schools as far as who they can pick for feeders. If restrictions like this were put in place, they would have an effect on the three large metropolitan areas of the state more than the rest of the state IMO. If the restrictions that I see coming are put in place, I want to see if the restrictions are imposed fairly. If some schools are not allowed to have some current natural feeder schools(which would moreso apply to private and open enrollment public schools), then why not just make prop 2 based on mileage instead? If restrictions are put in place, who exactly will decide- Bof Ed., Bo of Control, KHSAA delegate vote? It's the main thing I want to know.

Don't know about Calvary Christian, but Lexington Christian starts at 6th grade and goes through High School. Seems it could be assumed they are their only feeder school to the HS level. You don't go to middle school there, you can't play as a freshman.

I agree that the example I gave represents a very low percentage of the population, but I bet that we could find out the exact percentage through research, and we both probably agree that there are not enough that fall into this category to make it a problem. I am wondering how many kids fall into the category to make prop 2 necessary. I'm sure that we could find out the percentage of kids that have moved from one school system to another, and find out the percentage of all students. I'm curious to know what it would be. Is it enough to say that it is a problem that needs to be fixed with an idea like prop. 2? Is it a problem based on our perceptions? Is it a problem becuse it seems the X% happen to be kids that are good athletes?

I think that if this does eventually go through, the door opens for more allegations of recruiting (from or agianst either side). So if this is in effect next year, and stud 6th grade basketball player attends Jessie Clark Middle school in Lexington, and then enrolls in Mary Queen, the private feeder school to Lexington Catholic, you'd be a fool to think that the allegations of recruiting would go away. I'd say that the situation would be worse, and just as we have both wondered, would open up the KHSAA to oversee Middle and Jr. High school sports. BTW, if supposed recruiting goes on at the Middle school level, who handles the complaints? Is it the local school board?
