  1. So with all that being said we can all agree that this young man came back to Trinity due to the football program? I for one just wish everyone would be honest and say that is why some of these kids are going to these schools. Publics included. I gurantee and know for a FACT that if this kid would have been told that he might not be eligible to play and would not be "grandfathered" in he would not have step foot back into the hallowed halls of Trinity.
  2. You should be a politician. However, your spin techniques suck.
  3. There was a kid they had from Jeffersonville that play running back as a Freshman in the 2004 season, he left Trinity to go back to Jeffersonville for the 2005 season. He has since left Jeffersonville in December to go back to Trinity. Imagine that.
  4. I'm not going to bring up the word but it does count. However, I feel that the feeder system that is in place for these schools play a part. The same thing goes for Male. The catholic schools and Male are the only schools that have a feeder system that allows those schools to instill the attributes of tradition, loyalty, and pride for their schools from the time they step foot into those schools. From the time you step into a catholic elementary school or a traditional elementary school you know what your end will be. This fact is impressed on them from day one as well as at home what the X,Trinity, Male tradition is all about. Most kids going to other schools within Jefferson County don't get that teaching of tradition until they get to their particular school. I can say from experience most kids that attend other schools don't have the LOVE and PRIDE for their institutions that kids from X,T, and Male have. The coaches at these places TRY to instill these attributes into the kids that choose to come to there schools but it is really difficult to get kids coming from different backgrounds to buy into it.
  5. I have no problem with anyone wanting the best for any of their children. I want the best for my own kids. I'm just one that happens to think it not fair that the public schools in Kentucky have to play against private school kids that don't live in the county. I'm sure you don't agree with that and you shouldn't agree with it, being a X supporter. I respect your opinion where that is concerned. My opinion is,that it isn't right. I don't believe there will ever be a happy medium where this issue is concerned. So I guess you and I will just have to agree to disagree.
  6. Still more qualifying. I guess JCPS needs to pass a rule that if there are alumni of their schools living in another county, their kids can attend that school because of the alumni connection.
  7. Qualify it any way you want. He played middle school ball for Providence. He still lives in Indiana. Providence may be in Clarksville. He is still closer to Providence living in NA than he is X. I believe his father is still coaching(football and basketball) at one of the public schools in the Clark County School System. Wonder who the next kid (that will undoubtebly be a great athlete from Southern Indiana) playing for X will be?
  8. Wonder how good Deuce could have been playing at Providence or Jeffersonville High since he is from and still lives in JEFFERSONVILLE INDIANA.
  9. You are right it was 33-7 midway through the 4th quarter and Manual scored two td's late in the 4th quarter. I guess they were on X's 2's and 3's and they shouldn't have counted in the final score.
  10. OK Manual gets a bunch of smart kids who as 02Ram54 said have never played football in the backyard let alone played in a league somehere. Some of those same kids come out to have something on their college applications saying they participated in a sport. It may hurt the other HS's test scores, college scholarship rate and all that other stuff. Male's feeder system is no worse than the catholic high schools feeder system in the city.
  11. I'm talking about a feeder system of schools. There is no feeder system of schools for Manual or any other school in Jefferson COunty for that matter. It isn't like it used to be when you knew that you were going to a certain school in elementary, middle and high school based on where you lived. With X and Trinity kids pretty much know where they are going at least starting no later than the 4th grade. Most before then. With Male and Butler for that matter once you get into the traditional program you know that you will go to that school as long as you stay traditional. I do not believe there is another public school that can say that. For example, I have a nephew that attends Audubon Elementary. The kids he goes to school with will all mostly go to Barret and from there on to Male. These kids already know they are going to graduate from Male. He tells me that all the kids in his school cheer for Male . Thus, the basis for wanting to keep the tradition rolling of excellence on the field and/or court.
  12. In my opinion I don't think there will be ANY school to break into the Big 3 or at least be a part of it on a year in year out basis. There is too much going on with open enrollment. There is no feeder system for ANY school really so that player base is not there. The big 3 keep a base to draw from on a regular basis. X,Trinity from the catholic elementary schools (although they find it necessary to get kids from everywhere else) and Male from the traditional program. Most of the kids that go to those schools start kindergarten or first grade knowing they are going to one of those schools. Therefore, the attitude of excelling academically and athletically is preached from day one. Then those kids all go to the same high school and have an understanding of what is expected of them.
  13. I agree that there should be a big 4 due to all those reasons. However after that 88 season there was a big drop in the competitiveness of the teams that were fielded. Even after Mayes got there in 94 it took 3 years before they had a winning season. Mayes was there another 3 or 4 years after those winning season started. Nichols took over after that so in all actuallity Manual has only been COMPETITIVE with the Big 3 for the past 3 years. They have been competitive with the rest of Jefferson County for about 8 years. How many other teams in Jefferson COunty have been competitive with those teams in the Big 3 for the past 4 years? There aren't many if any.
  14. Bravo Pete. I think a lot of people take it for granted that Coach Nichols took over a program that had just recently been resurected by Jerry Mayes. While Mayes was there there was never a win let alone a close game to X or Male. At least now the games are competitive. That isn't a knock on Mayes, it is just part of the process in getting a school community to change their mindset about having a winning football program. Glaser, Redman and BEatty all came into programs with a winning tradition and that makes coaching and getting student/athletes a little easier. That Manual job is not an easy spot. Go into that school and I bet you wouldn't fine 100 kids not associated with the football team that could tell you what the football team's reacord was. Better yet, I bet you couldn't fine 30 teachers not associated with the football team that could answer the same question. Now ask how many National Merit Semi-finalist there are and most everyone could tell you. Am I saying that there is anything wrong with high academics? Absolutely not. However, I think there should be an equal emphasis on both areas. At Manual I don't think that is the case. That makes for a tough situation for ANY coach.
  15. If I'm Manual's coaches I'd vote Beaumont ALL-WORLD after the way the played against them. I was freakin unbelievable.
  16. That is exactly the reason they don't let the coach vote for their own players. Every coach somewhat thinks their kids are great and wouldn't trade them for anyone else.
  17. The awards are voted on by coaches and as a coach you can't vote for your own player. Most of the coaches kind of vote for a kid based on the game he played against your team while in district play. It is all for the newspaper . They get their name in the paper and a CERTIFICATE saying they were named All-District. Most kids aren't fazed by it anyway. As this thread demonstrates the only ones upset about it are the FANS and/or PARENTS of the teams.
  18. No they both played for the Flaget Rams in the Muahammad Ali League. They play their games mostly at parks in the West End. I understand that Victor Anderson was mostly under the radar because that team also had Rico Neal as a RB. Neal is the RB at Central this year.
  19. You could be right. Then again Nichols could say the same thing about Public school kids going to X after never playing in the catholic league or even being a member of a catholic parish. There are examples of that on both teams so I don't think should'could be the reason.
  20. I don't think it would be Mayes. Glaser and Mayes are great friends. Glaser spoke at Mayes's suprise birthday party and it was nothing but love. Then again Galser could have just been blowing smoke. It could be that since Nichols has been there, Manual plays X extremely tough with the exception of one year.
  21. Did the teams you played on come in with a losing attitude? If so that could be the problem with the Manual teams. The coaches can coach their butts off and tell the kids that they are as good and can play with anyone. Until THEY actually BELIEVE it then all is for naught. Half the battle is believing.
  22. Are all these statistics being given as justification for continued play in the current playoff system? The numbers may hash out evenly but it doesn't justify the Jefferson County publics playing the privates that are able to draw the BEST of Oldham,Bullitt,Shelby and Southern Indiana. I know the argument will be made that there aren't that many students/football players that end up there. However, all you need is 1 or 2 REALY GOOD kids from each of those counties for an advantage.
  23. Even before the Trinity game? I wonder what is up with that. He must really hate Manual or is it Coach Nichols and his staff.
