  1. I wasn't saying good coaches can't coach all levels, they certainly can. Someone referred to 1A & 6A being the same brand of ball which it is clearly not. Coaching is coaching at all levels, heck 1A coaches propably do more with fewer coaches and resources.

I said it...please explain the different "brands" as you described. Please explain to me what the difference between 1a and 6a other than number of bodies.

  2. Why? Just because you dont agree? Through 14 games he averaged 20 carries a game. He averaged 183 yards per game. Thats around a 9 yard per rush average. He averaged 3 TDs a game rushing. Thats a hard thing to do, hand the ball off to a stud and watch him gain 9 yards per play and score 3 TDs a game! Sounds really ridiculous to me!

What is ridiculous is you assume that he did that all on his own. Did you ever stop to think that maybe he benefited from the scheme, calls, practice, passing game, etc?

  3. Well, you can tell it is the offseason when old threads start to generate discussion again. But what the heck, I'll put in another two cents.

It seems the big debate is whether Mayfield or Hazard is #2. I don't buy the argument by Blackshirts that Hazard was playing better at the end of the year. Mayfield shut out 3 of their playoff opponents including Beechwood. This debate is ongoing because Hazard's game versus LCA was closer than Mayfield's. And let's remember, that championship game score is not reflective of a game that was still close late in the 3rd quarter. LCA racked up the points in Q4 to make that game look much worse than it truly was. Plus, we all know how that common opponent game gets played. Heck look at the scores in Mayfield's two games versus Crittenden County and it is clear how inconclusive comparing scores can be.

Big games so often come down to how teams match up, in particular the stars on each team, and you really don't know that till they step on the field against each other. I think the talk about a big line play advantage to Hazard is definitely debateable. After watching the championship game, I don't think LCA's line outplayed Mayfield's line nearly as much as others have stated. Lucas Witt's scrambling and escapability made his line look good. I think Mayfield's line would hold their own versus Hazard. The matchups I want to hear about from those touting Hazard are how would Hazard stop Shelton and Murrell? I think Shelton would be the difference in a matchup against Hazard. He is one of the best players I have seen in 1A in the past few years.

I have to go with Mayfield as #2. They are solid all around and with Shelton they have a player who can make the big plays you need in a tough matchup. I would put Hazard #3 and then it's a toss up for me at #4 between Beechwood and Crittenden County.

LCA was up 28-7 at half...Mayfield scored to make it 28-13 then LCA scored to make it 35-13....is a 3 TD's margin considered close? Also, I've always thought the argument is was close for 2, 3, etc quarters to be comical. Isnt football a 4 quarter game? Why is the 4th quarter any different than the 1st quarter? Fatigue is a major factor and many (LCA) teams use that to their advantage.

  4. People need to take their emotion out of this. If you get offered a better job you take it. If someone offers what I perceive to be a better job for me and my family I am gone. I dont care what "project" I am in the middle of. And I do this out of LOYALTY!!!! Loyalty to my family.

  5. I was wondering when we would see a post along these lines. I haven't seen Hazard, but I do think Mayfield is the clear #2 in the state this year. And here are a couple of scores that lead me to say this - 10/23 Mayfield 42 Crittenden County 7; 11/20 Mayfield 31 Crittenden County 28. You may look at those scores and say it looks like Mayfield got worse or it proves Mayfield is not clearly #2. I look at those scores and say comparing game scores does not tell you which team is better. In a one game scenario between quality teams, sometimes strange things happen. So how much better is Mayfield than Crittenden County? How much better than Hazard is LCA? Is LCA really 5 TD's better than Mayfield? All we can go on is what happened and the fact is Mayfield is the state runner up. The final score of this game means nothing more than LCA beat Mayfield in this game. Who knows what the score would look like if they played again next Saturday?

I wasnt comparing scores. I watched both teams play LCA and I think Hazard MIGHT be a better team. But is doesnt matter anyway and I shouldnt have posted that....back to Mayfield/LCA game.

  6. This is in no way a disrespect to Mayfield...but I truly believe Hazard is the 2nd best team in 1a. Great game by the Eagles whose defense played tremendous (other than those couple of blown coverages).

Hayden is a true warrior....Kid was in major pain and just kept pounding it. I wish those who are stating that he is "slow" could have seen a 100% Dom...but 210 yds on a busted wheel is pretty impressive to me.

Last but not least....BIG Zach West!!!! He was a man out there!! He and the rest of the LCA line totally dominated the trenches. I say that LCA probably had over 300 yds rushing.

  7. I have had the pleasure of watching BOTH Ft Campbell and Mayfield. IMO, this game would be close until the opeing kickoff...then Ft Campbell would handle them easily. I dont have a dog in the fight but after watching both thats how I feel. And that is absolutely NO disrespect towards Mayfield...I just fell Ft Campbell is a top 5 team OVERALL this year.

  8. It was 21-13 in the first quarter...

That concerns me. I hope it was just a fluke.

It was 21-0 early. Berea got a couple of nice plays....one off an interception. LCA then went up 56-13 at half. LCA played its JV defense pretty much the whole 2nd half. Hayden played 1 series the 2nd half. Berea played its starters the whole game. As a matter of fact they called a timeout with just a little over a minute to go in the game to set up a long pass...basically against LCA's freshmen.

    Berea has a good QB.

  9. LCA has a great team, but must continue to believe in each other and take every opportunity to improve. They cannot become stagnet.

Speaking of the game, I think it was a very classy gesture by Coach Rains to pull the starters when LCA had the ball on Raceland's 15 yard line with 8 mintues to go in the third up 40-0. It was also a very classy move for Coach Vanderhoof to do the same. I know the coaches are good friends and Coach Rains showed mercy by not going for the running clock and Coach Hoof returned the act with pulling his starters and not playing them against LCA's freshmen. Good sportsmanship all the way around.

Good Luck to both teams the rest of the way.

The LCA staff has a tremendous amount of respect for the Raceland staff.

  10. From what I hear Mayfield is a VERY GOOD football team. I would also like to say I think Beechwood is the favorite until a 1A team beats them.

Now...let me answer a few things that have been posted. LCA had 2 scrimmages (WHICH MEAN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING). Green County was the first of which LCA won by a TD or two. LCA had only been practicing 1 week when they had that scrimmage. They did not open the first week as most teams as that was their bye week. Their 2nd scrimmage was Frankfort. The score was 48 or so to 7 at halftime (I think--couldve been 42). Both teams JV played most of the 2nd half.

LCA was up 2 TD's on LexCath and had all the mo and the game was then delayed for over 2 hours for weather. When the game resumed the field was a swamp and LCA game out very flat and got beat. IMPO...under normal circumstances or no delay I think LCA wins that game by 2 or 3 TD's.

But the delay happened LC responded and LCA didnt and they won.

LCA was up on CPA 28-6 at half. LCA had major cramping issues in the 2nd half and many starters didnt play. No excuses...but thats what happened. As a matter of fact...LCA had 3 freshman playing on D that 2nd half.

Last thing...State Championships are won in DEC not Oct. And with the schedule Beechwood has played I think they are the favored...not to mention I dont think a 1A team has beaten them in several YEARS,

  11. I just finished listening to the (taped) radio broadcast, & jotted down some notes. (fyi, stats may be incomplete, as I have a few gaps in the tape, a la Richard Nixon...)

Good News: New guys, & improved veterans.

Fresh faces filling in admirably for the men lost to graduation. Our defense has improved greatly, with some guys delivering on their potential. Love to see this.

I was glad to see a lot of substitions. That means we have a lot of quality players that can share the load.

Not perfect, but no team is at this stage of the season.

    Bad News: Sloppy 1st game.

    Penalties: LCA 9; CPA 2

LCA's Hayden ran in a TD, but penalty called it back. A 2nd penalty took LCA out of FG range...no points.

TWICE CPA was stopped at the goalline, bringing up 4th & 10; but penalties gave CPA a 1st & goal at the 5. Results: 2 TDs for CPA

Fumbles: LCA lost 3 of 4; CPA lost 0 of 1.

LCA fumbled at the end of a drive that brought them to the CPA 10 yd line.

CPA ran an LCA fumble back for a TD.

    INTs: LCA 1; CPA 1

    LCA had a punt blocked.

    Forecast:

As I posted earlier, clean up the mistakes & these guys will go far.

Bluto, at one point in the 4th quarter LCA's Defense had on the field...Freshman corner, Soph Corner, freshman LB with 2 Sophmore LB's, and a Freshman at nose. This was when the game was tight. LCA's is playing a lot of young kids right now which should pay dividends down the road.

  12. There is plenty of help on the field. They just didn't make plays. Also FHS has been hit with some serious injuries this season. Last night lost another starter most likely the season.

I hope it turns out OK for the young man. FHS will be fine...I think you said it best about getting in shape. This team is going to be VERY dangerous come playoff time.

  13. For those of us who can't make it, be sure to post a recap here on BGP.

Recap for Bluto....LCA 48-14 varsity. 41-6 at half. 48-38 final. LCA's varsity D was pulled after the first series of second half. Most all the varsity offensive starters too...except for a few who needed the extra work. BTW...Weaver is FAST....REAL FAST!!!

  14. Well said, quit reading on the internet and newspaper about how good they are and start working on reaching their potential, I like this saying totally 100% true.

Also I think I bit my tounge when I said Hayden wasn't in the top 10 best runningback, the kid is an amazing athelete and his size and speed makes him probably a better D1 player than Quan would be at the runningback level.

Panthers, keep your head up learn from mistakes, LCA is a great team and they were just the better team tonight. Rest up this weekend, do your HomeWork!:ohbrother: And get ready for Paris next Friday.

As good as a player as he is...he's an even better person!
