I just wrote a large paragraph and deleted it. All I will say is I agree with your analysis of the importance of the game to the teams. And I will say that me making a point you don't like isn't bashing. If it is there is a lot of bashing going on by county folks making the same points I make about their own district. Blaming Harlan is the easy out.

Well LB, I reread your post and it read the same to me as it did the other day. I haven't insulted anyone , just stated facts.Kept our doors open?? I won't comment but I could. And as to the bball game, I stand by my post. Believe me your side was worse. ONly because of what the guys were doing behind the girls bench. If that had happened at Harlan, the guys would have been ejected, gaurenteed. Now out of respect for the forum, HDE's plea and just being sick of the tone of our responses to each other, I am willing to back off. However, there has been plenty of blasting done, and you have done your share. If you are done, I am and I am willing to try to get past this issue that you and I will never see eye to eye on.

good information for the most part but again some asumptions made. I was in the Harlan Ind system also during the time. There were some racial tensions at Harlan. But, it must be remembered what was going on in the country. One reason that it was worse at Harlan was that there weren't many black students at Cawood and Evarts. I knew the faculty/administration pretty well, and I think its a stretch to say that there was a "Racist Policy at Harlan". That may be your perspective, but I don't think its true. It may have been true of some individuals, who knows, but I don't think it was any kind of "policy". It seems to me that between your post and MTN Pride's there was enough blame, and pettiness to go around. There is no place for win at all costs or racial bigotry. Both are wrong and shameful. Lets hope rivalries are never again based on such things.

Well, I did give homage to your knowledge (pretty cool rhyme, huh?)., however, the perspective issue is in question for all of us. No offense intended. As to who stopped the series, it may well have been the decision of Harlan Ind. Administrators. If it was, then why? I have been told some of the reasons, but it would serve only to drag the debate on and on. I do not believe it was out of fear and trembling, because I knew the superintendent and the Principal very well, and they weren't fearful men. However, they may have made the decision ( if it was indeed Harlan's decision) for good reasons. As to perspective once again, we could debate it forever. From a Cawood perspective it was Harlan dodging. I doubt myself or anyone else could convince you otherwise. Likewise, from a Harlan perspective, you won't convince me of Harlan dodging. So the knowledge debate is conceded. I confess I'm not as savvy. But perspective is everything. No one knows all the answers I'll wager.

sorry, but that didn't compare with what I was talking about. The worse behavior was behind the girls as I said origninally. What struck me about the under the goal incident, was that they were quick to stop something that may have affected their kids, but let their folks curse, flip off, and totally disrupt the other team's kids.

I was at a game tonight (girls game, but no ones talking over there). There was a group of young men ( football team ) stationed just behind the opposing team. As the game went on the young men grew worse and worse. At one point the boys were bent over the girls yelling, screaming, mocking their coach in their huddle, within touching distance. The Principal and Assistant Principle were there, along with the AD of the school. They just watched. It grew so bad, the coach had his subs bring the chairs out on the floor just so he could huddle with his team. The boys were cursing loudly, showing how old they were on their hands and more by the end of the game. Is this acceptable? I know the school I attended and my kids attend would never have allowed this to occur at our gym without the kids being dispersed or thrown out. A certain amount of this is supporting your team, but this was really ugly. If my son was doing that, I would have drug him out of the gym by his ear. I know several fathers of the girls were getting pretty irate toward the end. How much do you think is too much? Just interested in opinions on this.

Well, see, I thought that some boy's games were played at Cawood. Thats the part that bothers me, and quite frankly, I've been playing dumber than usual, just to see what folks thought. To me, this gave both Cawood boys and Cumberland boys a home court advantage and that just ain't right, unless there is something I'm missing. So HDE, I guess you were right and it was all part of a conspiracy. If not, it sure makes you wonder. Somebody please tell me it ain't so!

At risk of life and limb, I'll ask another question, just so I can understand. So all the boy's games were/are being played at Cumberland? And all the girl's games were/are being played at Cawood?

Hey, where ya been? No, I'm not always right...gasp, shock! I'm waiting on Mountain Pride for some eye-witness info on this latest topic, I don't pretend to know what happened. How do you see next year's RAX Bowl, whyme?

I think its very much a mystery. Harlan has lots of spots to fill. Cawood will be a mystery with a new coach. Cawood has to get used to winning. Harlan has to be able to score. Its a toss up as far as I can see.

The fight was a basketball game. I was there and after that, the two teams stopped playing each other. Why it took so long to get restarted, we can all have theories. Most folks perspective comes from which team they support, or which district one graduated from. I guess the only facts we know is that they play each other now. Unless that game gets to be something that is bad for the programs, you play it. I hope they always play. As for Harlan's chances this coming season, it may be a tough road, with all the county schools looking to beat Harlan in their last year of their schools existence. I believe the Evarts game is at Evarts, but Cawood and Cumberland are at home. Again the big question marks are the younger linemen and the recieving corps.

Was it after the basket-brawl? What coaches refused to play Cawood (if indeed they did)? What was the reasoning? Anyone out there have the Harlan version? Not doubting you completely HDE, you are very reputable, My experience has just been that Harlan Ind. usually has more motivating its decisions than "fear".

I've hashed this out on other threads till I am blue. I'll give you the short version. I've said before that I think since my tax money goes to the public schools, I should have the option to send my kid to any public school I like. Now private schools, well I just don't think they should be competing in the playoffs with public schools. If they want to play public shools, fine, but not for a championship. They can have their own. I know a lot of folks don't agree, and I will not get into it again here myself ( you can if you like), but I'm pretty well set on it. And again LB and anyone else who mistakes my passion for bad attitude, you are mistaken. I do enjoy a good arguement though!
