  1. I disagree with the sentiment that you and LCPats have offered. Why in the hell would Willard leave the situation he was in if there weren't some promises made?

I think he will be head coach, and I would welcome it because I think he's an excellent coach -- and one who is much better than Pitino, who consistently has shown his weakness in close games during the UofL tenure. He was able to mask that inability at UK because he almost always had superior talent to throw at coaches who killed him on the X/O end.

I've said the same thing about Pitino since his UK days. Very good recruiter and motivator, but an average to below average bench & X/O coach. First time I've ever heard a UL fan make that statement. I too think Willard would be an upgrade.

  2. As a Corbin school teacher I resent your insinuation that we only want the more affluent kids. Corbin has been at the top because we offer ALL kids a quality education regardless of socio-economic status. In fact, if you were to do the research you will find that our free and reduced lunch population performs on par with our more affluent kids and better in some cases so----if the school district does annex we will welcome any student who comes through our doors. We always have and always will. This thing is far from over and what it boils down to is that the Knox County school system does not care about what kids suffer from this decision but only the almighty dollar. IMHO it is going to hurt both districts in the long run and perhaps Knox County the most. Time will tell. The real losers will be the kids.

    IMHO a very arrogant statement...

  3. Corbin is in kind of a unique situation geographically speaking with the school district being in two counties and also bordering another. There was available land for developing just outside the school district and several nice subdivisions were developed. There had been a reciprocal agreement for so long that most of these people thought that it would never be a problem and some even thought they were in the Corbin district, so they bought homes there. Most will pay the tuition and go on, then I guess that the Superintendent would try to cancel the reciprocal with Barbourville, although that will not happen because of the political connections in Knox Co.

I don't see that Knox Co. will gain many students from this and they risk the possible loss of millions of dollars in their tax base if Corbin is successful in getting this area annexed into the Corbin school district.

Moving will not be much of an option unless they are willing to take a big loss on their houses because there will not be much of a market for these homes. I would estimate a 10-20% drop off in the market value of these homes and most people can't afford to take a loss of $25,000-50,000.

Different subject, but simply not accurate. While real estate sales in the tri-county have dropped about 30% over previous years, home values have stayed the same. Don't mean to call you out, just thought you might like this info...

  4. I'm really shocked by all of the uproar (& misinformation) regarding the cancelled NL/PC game. People, contracts have buy out clauses for a reason. If this game meant soooooo much to PC, they should have put a bigger number in the clause. I don't know what the reason NL wants out, but when I heard they were buying out, I was thrilled.

PC Coach Hines showed his rear end last year when NL beat his team. He cried like a baby, and called out a very classy and professional NL admininstration in the paper. I don't know if that factored into this decision, but I know it's reason enough for me. PC, grow up, quit your crying (like your coach), and MOVE ON.

  5. Hogwash. It's a double standard and you know it.

I have zero doubt Calipari would be in deep danger if he announced on April 15 he were headed to Duke to replace Coach K.

I see your point, but not exactly apples to apples, Jim. I don't think that UT has the history with USC that UK and Duke has. Good think is I highly doubt this will happen...

  6. No no that's not what I meant at all. I just meant all these people are now getting tickets cheaper than some season ticket holders could purchase theirs for.

I bought 4 extras to try and sell and make some $$$, but ended up selling them for face. IMO, the weather forecast is the primary reason for lack of demand.

  7. I think he might have just told me the average price for all the tickets which would make more sense. :thumb:

That explains it. The AFC Championship game tickets are MUCH higher than the earlier games. Surely you knew that they couldn't charge season ticket holders more than anyone else...

  8. Care to explain?

I think the explanation should come from you. It's simply not true that they charge Season ticket holders 20-25% over face value. Face Value for where I sit (232) is $84 for the Wild Card game, and $145 for the AFC Championship. That is exactly what I was charged. I did incur a $3 handling charge.

If you're new to season tickets, playoff tickets cost more than regular season tickets. Prices are set by the league...

  9. I don't know why, but I feel better about this one than I did the Minnesota game. SD's defense will look like a high school defense after playing against Minnesota's. We should be able to score more points against SD. If they can eliminate the costly penalties, I look for the Bengals to win in a close one.
