  1. Since you bring it up, Din0…I wouldn’t presume to speak for the Royals constituency, but the “hope” tank on Ashland’s side is getting good mileage and is far from empty.
  2. Actually, even getting to a Rock or Bell would mean getting out of our immediate district. That said, Ashland or JC would potentially meet each other twice within a 2 or 3 week span...once in the regular season, then once in a playoff scenario. It will be extremely difficult for the winner of the JC vs Ashland season matchup to duplicate a victory twice in such a short time span.
  3. Thanks for sharing, Scribe. I am a huge fan of high school football venues in general, and the old ones (WPA) in particular.
  4. We play the National Anthem before every Ashland ballgame. From time to time, we have a "moment of silence/reflection". When I attend away games, I always notice whether or not either/both of these two events take place as well. This is something we certainly should not take for granted...little by little we are losing the "right" to acknowledge God and Country at public events. Better stop here, this is a soapbox issue for me.
  5. Actually, they would be far from quiet. GC will not be a pushover and have given Ashland great games in the past. Can you honestly say you have ever seen the Maroon Nation being "a little on the quiet side"? See you in a few weeks.
  6. I have attended quite a few Raceland games over the years and have yet to find a bad seat. Im sure some are better than others, but no complaints here about their facilities. Raceland appears to be doing much to enhance their football program from upgrading the football facility to creating a dedicated JFL field....oh, and dont forget, they beat teams which they arent suppose to beat.
  7. I agree Fball...Raceland has been salivating at an opportunity to play Russell. I dont think they will cancel OR postpone the game.
  8. I dont think it will either, Tcat Fan but every game IMO brings with it the possibility of a loss. I hope our Tomcats go into every game with something to prove and thinking they are the underdog.
  9. You know, momcat....that may be a good call. I think there is more to Boyd than most give credit.
  10. That's great news for area football fans. I hope the date of this game will be during an open date in the Ashland schedule. I agree that the atmosphere would be rockin' in Raceland...no way Russell could match that enthusiasm.
  11. Russell has been vulnerable to speculation about the greatness of their program due to being in a chronically weak district. That is no fault of theirs and there is painfully little they can do to correct it. Perhaps next year with the re-addition of Mason Co the devils will at least be challenged for the district championship. Good luck to both Russell and West this Friday.
  12. Good football is good football regardless of the venue. I would enjoy a game between Raceland and Russell at either facility, but I have to give the nod to Raceland for better concession food.
  13. From one oldtomcat to an oldramber...remember that you cant argue with ignorant people...they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience. Let's not be too harsh on our red devil brethren...until they reach the playoffs, they wont have too much football to talk about.
  14. What better "good one" could you find other than a team just located a few miles from your own campus. Raceland has great tradition, brings a huge crowd and, at the risk of speaking for my orange and black friends, would love to get a crack at the devils. Talk about a "Backyard Brawl"...that one would be worth the price of admission.
  15. Best post on this "debate"...well done! Put me down for both bets too!!
  16. This isnt the thread for that "discussion"
  17. Dickie Martin is the best I have ever heard call a high school ballgame. He is 2nd generation "Voice of the Tomcats" too. Love him or hate him, but when you listen to his broadcasts, you know what's going on. I have listened to many other area radio sports broadcasters and IMO, there is a huge gap between the quality of No 1 and second place.
  18. Perhaps this match up doesn’t have any marquee value outside of our immediate area BUT how can you not get motivated for this game? It’s the start of district play, its Homecoming and we are playing against a team which is certainly capable of beating us. Although I think I understand where you are coming from with your observation about GC coming to town, I sincerely hope the Tomcats aren’t suffering from the same perspective.
  19. If the Hank is very, very wet, you may want to consider postponing the game until Saturday evening. That formula works fairly well for the home team.
  20. As of this moment, there will be four in my group. Not sure how many others may be coming out too but it has been pouring the rain here for over 3 hours.
  21. Keep us posted X.....I plan on attending tonights game.
  22. Conversely, how does Ivan motivate a team to play against such an opponent so outmatched? Obviously, this is one of the many things which make him a great coach.
  23. With Ashland having the bye week, I plan to be there along with a couple of other posters. Really looking forward to seeing JC in action.
  24. While your checking out the "record books", take a look at team rosters for the current season. Michael West is playing for Campbellsville University...Arliss Beach is in the NFL.
