  1. I was able to go down to the scrimmage and I think you've got it just right. Coach Hart told them during the scrimmage that they were there to work on things, not to win. Ashland had serveral things that were working for them, but what good would it have been for them to just keep rehashing the stuff that was okay? No offense intended for Campbell Co. but they saw that the screen was working so they ran it at least 12-13 times. They seemed happy to win but, on the other side of it Coach Hart and staff didn't seem to be upset at the score in the least. Ashland's defense got some very valuable experience against a good team, same with their offense. You have to put your team together at some point, hence the scrimmage concept.
  2. No but his former team mate is already there in the person of Mike Terry.
  3. Ballbrain like Ram. If not for Ram who would post on Ashland thread?:ylsuper:
  4. They're talking about moving down to 4A.
  5. As I see it the main rub here is that that most folks who have a problem with this thing are for the most part saying that the coach overstepped his bounds and had no business taking 16 year olds to church. Our society is filled with people who made decisions prior to the age of 16 that they DEEPLY regret. Church has a way of preventing these kinds of decisions, and a personal relationship with the Jesus Christ is a definite advantage, to say the least! As for whether or not the coach stepped out of line consider this; these are our Lord's last words to his disciples. Matt 28:18 & 19, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in he name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Luke 14:23, And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and the hedges, and COMPEL them to come in, that my house may be filled. I am trying really hard to understand how coach violated any scriptural precepts and I just can't agree that he is somehow deserving of some punishment. I still must applaud his actions. I still say his actions are ordered by the Lord (Lk 14:23) and that he was obeying the great commission (Matt 28:18&19) After having read the story it still seems to be very likely to me that the coach was upfront about this whole thing, to point where the players knew exactly where they were going and just didn't tell their parents. I can't help but wonder how many other places they are used to going without having to ask permission? Just a thought.
  6. I stand corrected, and this is one time I don't mind being wrong!
  7. Don't know about the basketball but I heard that 44 is a sophmore this year, makes one wonder how much better he'll be by the time he's a senior.
  8. Yeah, I'm not saying I know all that is involved here but, the story said some parents said they did know. Again from the story, it looked like there was only one person really that was complaining. I certainly think as a parent I would have wanted to be at the Baptismal service too. Its' just hard to get too mad at him if he was in some way instrumental in some boys shunning a place where the "fire is not quenched, and the worm dieth not" for all eternity.
  9. I disagree completely with this notion that one must be 18. Most of the people that come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and accept him as their Lord and Savior do so prior to the age of 18. That is to say a greater percentage. Accepting Him is a personal decision and can only be made by the individual. The bigger news here is that a number of boys now have a personal relationship with God and as a result have eternally secured their life with Jesus Christ! If I had a 16 year old unsaved son or daughter and THEY DECIDED of their own free will to accept Him as Savior I would be doing back flips as soon as they came through the door and told me about it! Sounds to me like its' time to celebrate. Since they had permission I wouldn't care if they got there and back by wagon train if neccessary. Sometimes the people are Baptized immediately upon profession of faith like this, I will say that the norm these days seems to be to do it in a week or so to give family time to plan and attend. Hats off to you Coach, you are fulfilling the great commission!
  10. Excellent post, most of Ashland's players have 2 or 3 more years to play. With no core group in front of them why not use this opportunity to your teams' best interest? District and Region games played will be a big help come next season.
  11. You're saying that the Tomcat players, current and past, involved with this years' district championship are living in the past?
  12. The Cats had to face the number 1 & 2 seeded teams in the 64th to win the championship. And you are exactly right, doubtful that many gave Ashland a ghost of a chance. But that's why they go ahead and actually play the games. I thought they showed a lot of character during this tournament, as did every team in the district. Saw some great basketball this past week!
  13. The Tomcats were behind the entire 2nd, 3rd and 4th periods until the last second of the game. It would have been easy to have given in to the inevitable when Jackson was dropping those triples a little earlier. Ashland never gave up and eeked out a very hard fought win. Fairview played, what I thought, was very good defense the whole game. Almost every shot Ashland took was contested. This makes the 3rd game between these two teams this year in which the outcome has been determined by one point. Great effort by all !
  14. The Facts are that your posts are in Fact your oppinions and not the facts.JMO
  15. I'm just trying to follow your lead and not start slamming people, refs are people too, that I have to live with here in our fair community. I would offer that we disagree on this matter however. A lot of players left a lot on the gym floor last night and I was proud of all of them. To say that Ashland didn't deserve to win, just cutting to the chase, is to dishonor the players and coaches really on both teams. If both teams were not viable forces to be reckoned with it wouldn't mean anything to both fan bases to win. I certainly do not subscribe to the notion that there was some sort of clandestine ref conspiracy in all of this, and I am proud to go on record in saying that. Were some calls missed? I've never seen a game I thought calls weren't missed. I've also never seen a game where the guy sitting next to me didn't see serveral things differently than I saw them. Good Luck to you in the future.
  16. I believe that you could be wrong on some things, and I don't believe you are an Ashland fan offended for RH's sake.:ohbrother:
  17. Which helps to reinforce my observation about Kouns this year, he is pretty much taking the whole game off and letting the two refs working with him make most of the calls. The last couple of games I saw this was the case. I bet he blew his whistle 5 times the last time out, if that many.
  18. Yeah I'd say they were getting a bit touchy after a close game with West, that one should have gone Ashland's way, and getting steam rolled by East.
  19. You are eloquent as ever my friend. Thought maybe the story didn't make the paper due to the late return of the team last night. But by the looks of your post the game must have been at Rose Hill.
  20. You are exactly right OL' TROJAN, it hurts to take a charge! A lot of offensive minded players know this and are unafraid to go rampaging into the paint as a result, knowing they are unlikely to be confronted by a determined defensive player. Its' all about choices, choose to give ground ' and the basket ' and then run back up the court on offense like its' all part of the game. I hear coaches lighting up players all the time for their lack of comittment.
  21. I really like the way East has settled down and focused of late. They have a good program and I like their attitude, on and off the court. Which I think may likely be attributed to Coach Charlie Baker's ideals handed down from the recent past. East by 6
  22. He will be sorely missed next year, for sure! He is the team leader and a good one IMO at that. His senior night was fitting as he had 28 points in the game and I believe 12 rebounds.::clap:
