Even the feeder program can't turn a turd in to a gem, it will keep kids interested, but isn't the be all end all reason Highlands has been good for so many years. Closed enrollment had nothing to do with the loss in depth. One thing not mentioned before that may have a small impact on the talent depth is that some kids are choosing to focus on one sport instead of playing multiple sports. So I guess to summarize for you, there isn't one thing or reason that you can point to that led to last years first losing season in 60 years. But we all know that's not good enough for you. So again, define downfall and tell us what you think is wrong.

Talent levels come and go, Highlands was lucky enough to experience a 10 year run like no other. Runs like those can't last forever. ANYONE who thinks Highlands is just going to fall of the football map is just fooling themselves.

What makes you think they won't be back to competing for championships? If they don't dominate(40+ point wins) like they did in the past but still win championships are you still going to call it a downfall? If Highlands is in a downfall, then what would you call the last 15 years for CovCath?

All is good in the Fort. Nothing any Highlands supporter puts out here is going to satisfy you. You think there's more to it than a cyclical blip. No school can be that good for that long and not have a blip or two over the years. But you keep digging and let us know when you find the reasons you're seeking.

It's one losing season and you act like the sky is falling. Hahahaha One losing season in (I forget the exact year) over 30+ years. We appreciate you taking an interest in our program. We'll be just fine.

One by one.... Didn't lose to Grant Cty. Get your facts straight Define downfall? One losing season? If that's the case then there are a bunch of teams on the downfall. Hard to replace a legend. It'll take a little time for BW to put his stamp on the program. Plus the talent depth BW has compared to Dale is huge. Highlands can only take so many students. When there is no room due to some bigger classes, the tuition students were limited. But it's been proven time and time again that the tuition athletes are a very small part of the team. Obviously some NKY teams have gotten better. Changed things around and modeled what other successful schools are doing. What you're missing is that EVERY program has ups and downs. Just happens that Highlands ups and downs are spread out and we had a one year dip this year. It happens. I'm not sure you'll see any NKY team dominate like Highlands did for so many years. But you don't have the 2nd most wins in the nation and just drop off the map. They'll have their years where they are dominate. There you go, all questions answered.

I'm going to borrow a point made by another Highlands poster. The talent was there, just not as much as in the past. In the past they were almost 3 deep at most positions with very little to no drop off in skill. The past two years the depth hasn't been there. Still had talented players but not as many. Yeah they have 100 kids on the sidelines but having a big roster doesn't guarantee success. The drop off in skill level was more significant than in the past. I guess the question is "Should the coaches adjust their philosophy on platooning? Should they have put the best 11 athletes on the field at all times at the cost of getting game experience for the underclass men?"
