Central is really hurting for athletes. Which feels so weird to say that out loud. Other than the coach’s son they are very weak. Any win is a good win for the Colonels especially without Bryant. Hope he is back on the court soon.

I agree 100%. That is why rankings are so hard when one team has a great record and another team has a losing record and neither have played each other. But the one with the losing record is probably better than the one with a great record. Lol It all works its way out by tournament time. The cream always raises to the top.

We are at the halfway point for most of the teams schedule this week. We have some exciting up and down movement of the polls this week . Where did Grant County come from and what has gotten into them? They are playing some great basketball. The first ranking of the year I had them as the 14th best team. WOW, that is humbling. I missed that one by a long shot. To be fair, CatPause didn’t have them in the top 10 either. But some big wins on their resume has caused them to move up on in Polls. The top three teams are still cruising along. Woodford lost to outside of the region team in North Hardin but not sure that should change their position or not. However, they followed that up with a huge win against defeating state champs Great Crossing. So the Yellowjackets are for real. North Oldham and South Oldham are both in the middle of winning streaks and both are in the second round of the LIT. Is Simon Kenton or Spencer county good enough to crack the top 3 spots by the end of the year? Only time will tell. Overall there are a lot of moving around in the rankings mainly because I thought there were some upsets last week that need to be rewarded. 1. North Oldham- (11-4)_ Coach Levitch’s boys have had the top spot of the region all season. They are still my pick to cut down the nets in March. They got a 12 point win yesterday vs Oldham County in the first round of the LIT and will play the winner of Jeffersontown and Trinity in round two. Will be cool to see a region 8 team advance to the final 4 of the LIT. We are rooting for the Mustangs. 2. Woodford County (7-4) Huge wins for the Yellowjackets over Great Crossing and Scott County last week. They did fall to a very good North Hardin team but I am keeping them at the number 2 spot since it was a non-region game. District opponent, Shelby County, will come to Versailles on Friday night. Should be an easy will for Woodford. 3. South Oldham (12-4) Two things are normal in Oldham County -High taxes and Steve Simpson winning basketball games. The Dragons are still cooking. They won their first round of the LIT yesterday with a 17 point win over Atherton. Just like was said previously about North, we are rooting as a region that the boys from Crestwood keep on winning in the LIT. Pretty cool to have two region 8 teams in round 2 in one of the most competitive tourneys in the state. The Dragons take on the winner of Male and PRP.. It will more than like by Male since they are one of the top teams in the entire state. 4. Simon Kenton (7-6) The Pioneers picked up two big wins last week vs Northern KY rivals Cooper and Dixie Heights. Simon seems to be getting better and better as the season goes on. Friday night should be a great matchup. I would not have thought this a month ago but Grant County is playing great ball. Simon goes to Grant so it should be a great crowd and a great game. 5. Spencer County (9-5) Coach Burns likes this bunch of kids and loves how they compete. They got a district win last over Shelby County by 23 points. This week they have another big district game vs Collins. Should be a better game than the Shelby County game was. 6. Grant County – (10-5) Going from preseason number 14 to number 6, is an impressive thing to do. This team deserve it though. Really no one, including me, was talking about them much over the last 2 months but look at the regional wins they have; Won at Anderson, Won at Oldham County and Won vs Collins. None of those wins are against top 5 teams but it proves they are a good basketball club. They have a chance to make some serious noise in the region and their district on Friday night. I hope they have a big fan turn out to root them on. 7. Henry County (8-8) Putting the Wildcats at the 7 spot might not be the smartest I have ever done but I do believe they are the 7th best team in the region as of today. I know they lost to Oldham and Anderson but those two teams are not necessarily as good now as they were then. They both lost one of their top players while Henry had 3 players out at the first of the season. I am hearing everyone is heathy. I look for Henry County to instead their winning streak to 4 this week after playing Gallatin. However, they have two really tough games after that against Boyd County in the third round of the 2A Sectionals and then vs Ryle who is one of the top teams in the 9th region. If they can make both of those games competitive the rest of the 8th region better look out. Almost forgot to mention, some say they got the biggest win of this century last week vs Lex Cath. WOW! That is a big statement. 8. Collins (4-9) Do I really think that Collins is the 8th best team in the region?…. NO!!!! But with all they have been through and all they are continuing to do to fight for their season I wanted to reward them. Its not a 100% pity party hand out for them, however. They have beaten Walton and Anderson this season. So head to head does matter. I hope they can pull together a few more wins this month. My heart is rooting for them but my head says they are gonna go 0-3 this week vs Waggener, Spencer and Simon Kenton, so they will be back outside the top 10 next week. GO TITANS. 9. Walton Verona (10-5) I am moving Walton up because they have 10 wins, they are on a 4 game winning streak , and they have had competitive games vs South Oldham (kinda competitive), Spencer, and Collins who are all ranked high then them. They play Anderson County on Saturday so they will give everyone a better idea if they need to stay in the top 10 or not. 10. Anderson County (14-3) Really don’t know what happen vs Collins last week. That loss surprised me. But the old saying….”on any given night”. I think the Bearcats are better than Collins but you got to give credit where credit is due. Anderson will able to make a statement this week with games vs Bullitt Central and vs Walton Verona. I am hoping to watch the game in New Castle. 11. Oldham County (6-8) The Colonels have lost 4 of their last 5 games. When your top 3 scorers are Fresh and Soph, you can't be too good of a team. Their lack of size is a killer as well. Coach Renner is working the boys hard because he knows the next 3 years he should be able to compete with anyone in the Region. This year they just don’t have the experience to do much. Their game vs South Oldham was moved to February due to the LIT schedule conflict. 12. Owen County (5-6) The win last week vs Gallatin County by 24 points is all I needed to see to give the nod at the 12th spot. They won 2 games in the ALL A classic before losing to Walton by 18 points. They have two big district games this week vs Carroll and Trimble. They should win them both. 13. Gallatin County (5-8) Even though they have lost 4 out of the last 5, no one behind them has done anything to cause them to drop other than Owen. Exciting week for the boys from Warsaw, they take on Henry County and Eminence. This will give us an idea what the district tournament match ups might look like next month. 14. Eminence (9-6) They went 1-1 in the All A classic losing to Walton by 43 points. Just like Gallatin they have a huge week of district play. They travel to Trimble and host Gallatin. Great opportunity to show the rest of the district they are for real. 15. Shelby County (7-8) They are improving each game. Winning 7 games before February for this group is amazing. Coach Leslie deserve a lot of credit for turning the ship around and working on heading in the right direction. They have 2 big region games this week vs Woodford and Gallatin. Excited to see the Gallatin County game. I think it will be a good one. 16. Carroll County (9-6) Big win last week over Louisville Collegiate. This week they take on Owen County and Augusta. 17. Trimble County (4-11) Lost to Eminence in the first round of the ALL A by 16 points. This week they have Eminence again and Owen County. 18. Cornerstone Chr (3-8) Lost in the first round of the ALL A to Wlaton by 54 points. This week they take on Portland Chr and Iroquois. 19. Williamstown (0-12) Still searching for their first win of the season. This week they take on Frankfort Chr, Simon Kenton and Walton Verona.

Every girls program in the region will be jumping for joy if they get moved. Lol

Grant County is surprising me more than other team in the region. I didn’t give them much respect in the preseason poll but they are playing some high level basketball and deserve to keep moving up the polls.

Simon is so far ahead of the rest of region 8, it’s not even funny.

What an accomplishment for Mr Nolin. Also very happy to hear Traevon is getting back on the court. Henry county could be a scary matchup for anyone in the regional tourney.

I am sure Ben is good but the number 1 player in the state in the class of 2029 for the next 4 years is Big Mason . 6’11 with good feet , a good touch around the rim and can hit the three.

Be cool to see a complete list for this years freshman to track them over the next 4 years. I like your list of Mason, Alijah and Chase. From our region I would throw Ty Bryant in there from Oldham County.
