  1. I haven’t heard from the coach or athletic director yet on what the reasoning is. One of those two made the call on I’m sure. This late in the process really sucks to make a change. I’m good friends with the former athletic director and he is usually in the know about a lot things. I may see if he knows reason. I’ll be honest I’m disappointed because I love watching teams we normally don’t get to see play and teams that are out of state. I like seeing how we match up. Some times we get our butts whipped like when we play Prattville Alabama or Cathedral out of Indy. Then there are teams out of NC that we match up well against. Now we get Alcoa which Corbin has played before. Trust me when I say Alcoa is still alittle salty from the last time you all played.
  2. Well I hated to see this but apparently Rhea Co will not be playing Corbin this year. I was told today Rhea Co will now be playing at Alcoa on Aug 20th.
  3. Got my first look at Corbin at the Powell TN 7 on 7 tourney yesterday. That is a pretty impressive group of players. They have earned the 1 seed for the championship bracket today.
  4. Congrats to Cole! Go Herd! I loved watching his dad play in high school at Knox Webb all the way through the NFL.
  5. Having been around recruiting of quite a few players at the D-1 level and lower levels. There is multiple factors that coaches from any level of college football look at. The first thing a lot of D-1 coaches look at is the recruits grades, because if you don’t have grades that qualify you with the NCAA Clearinghouse a lot coaches will move on. Measureables are a big factor at the D-1 level, but not everything. Good game film, highlight films, competition level help. Self promotion is also a factor. With COVID last year I’ve seen some interesting takes on players trying to get there names out there. Along the same lines high school coaches are a big factor too in the process. This time of year college coaches start reaching out to high school coaches seeing when spring practice is and kind of gaging prospects who are current targets and emerging prospects from each school. A good high school coach can pay big dividends in the recruiting process. Also going to camps and skills combines are big too.Camps whether on campus of a school or a skills combine like the ones Nike holds are very important to getting recruited. Lastly building relationships with the college coaches really go along way in the end. Once you have established some connections building on those with the coaching staff is big.
  6. Well it’s interesting to read about, I don’t think there is anything like this being talked about for the state of Tennessee. There is a lot of interest from Tennessee teams that scheduled schools from Kentucky. Which there does seem to be more schools from Tennessee scheduling with Kentucky schools for the upcoming schedule cycle. I don’t really know if it will make too much of a difference in the games, but that also depends on how many seniors would comeback too.
  7. I believe it’s going to be a two year deal. Unless we have something happen like last year with COVID and all. We were going to play a team out of North Carolina, but had to cancel since NC started their season later than TN.
  8. Thanks @Runcible Owl! Can’t wait for football season to get here.
  9. Greetings from Rhea County! I’m looking forward to kicking off the season in Corbin this fall. It will be a great test to see where we stand for sure. We are coming off a good season at 10-2 with a region championship but we got put out by the eventual 5A runner-up. We are going to be very young at some spots again, but the young guys are pretty talented. We are about 3 hours away in between Knoxville and Chattanooga. We should be a top 10 5A team if not a top 5. I think we are still a year away from being able to make a legit run in the playoffs. I don’t know much about Corbin other than you guys traditionally have very good teams year in and year out, Longmire and Patterson are both highly touted recruits and you guys knocked off one of the best out of Tennessee in Alcoa a few years back. That loss still remains as the only loss for Alcoa outside of their cross county rival Maryville in the last 6 years.
