Football hasn't changed. The Covington Catholic faithful don't feel there's a disconnect with the direction the football program is going. It's going in a great direction.
The basketball program has changed. There are some people within the basketball crowd at CCH that gripe about it for sure. At this point most of those folks' kids have made their way into other schools. It is what it is. Over the years I've found many or even most basketball parents to be tempestuous at best, and the degree to which the AAU circuit drives the game on many levels has only made that worse. So I guess I'm not phased when I hear basketball parents who are griping.
This thread made me laugh though. Highlands fans and CCH fans love to try to magnify perceived issues at each others schools. Or make them up completely.-

Is CCH playing without Mason or Benke tonight?

When it comes to GCL vs. Cov Cath, you could definitely say that things lean in the GCL's favor 🤣
The GCL currently has 30 wins to Cov Cath's 4, and the GCL South (Elder, LaSalle, Moeller, St. X) has 25 wins to Cov Cath's 3. In the late 60s and 70s, the games against GCL teams were played out of necessity. Most Northern Kentucky public school coaches - with the exception Newport, Highlands, Boone County and Harrison County - boycotted scheduling Cov Cath. Then in the 1990s, Cov Cath sought out a game against Moeller each year to stand as a major challenge for the team prior to district play. Even if it meant for a loss on the schedule, having that single bruiser of a game developed the teams in a lot a ways. Then once the '00s rolled around, my personal opinion is that things got a little out of hand with scheduling. Case in point: 2005. We had Moeller, Cincy St. X, and Columbus Bishop Watterson all within a 5 week stretch. Absolutely bananas.
Here's Cov Cath's full record against the GCL.
1967: Cov Cath 6 Hamilton Badin 8 - LOSS
1968: Cov Cath 8 Hamilton Badin 36 - LOSS
1969: Cov Cath 12 Hamilton Badin 14 - LOSS
1970: Cov Cath 0 Roger Bacon 26 - LOSS
1971: Cov Cath 0 Roger Bacon 21 - LOSS
1974: Cov Cath 21 Purcell 6 - WIN
1992: Cov Cath 22 Moeller 17 - WIN
1993: Cov Cath 7 Moeller 24 - LOSS
1994: Cov Cath 10 Moeller 14 - LOSS
1995: Cov Cath 14 Moeller 25 - LOSS
1996: Cov Cath 28 Moeller 52 - LOSS
1997: Cov Cath 12 Moeller 21 - LOSS
1998: Cov Cath 13 Moeller 52 - LOSS
2001: Cov Cath 41 LaSalle 7 - WIN
2002: Cov Cath 10 Moeller 14 - LOSS
2003: Cov Cath 16 St. Xavier 21 - LOSS
2003: Cov Cath 21 Elder 49 - LOSS
2004: Cov Cath 17 LaSalle 27 - LOSS
2004: Cov Cath 9 Elder 10 - LOSS
2005: Cov Cath 6 Moeller 16 - LOSS
2005: Cov Cath 0 St. Xavier 24 - LOSS
2006: Cov Cath 3 Elder 13 - LOSS
2006: Cov Cath 3 St. Xavier 23 - LOSS
2007: Cov Cath 7 LaSalle 34 - LOSS
2007: Cov Cath 6 Elder 35 - LOSS
2008: Cov Cath 7 Elder 56 - LOSS
2009: Cov Cath 35 LaSalle 44 - LOSS
2010: Cov Cath 7 LaSalle 50 - LOSS
2011: Cov Cath 10 LaSalle 41 - LOSS
2012: Cov Cath 11 LaSalle 27 - LOSS
2013: Cov Cath 7 Moeller 45 - LOSS
2014: Cov Cath 0 Moeller 39 - LOSS
2015: Cov Cath 7 St. Xavier 57 - LOSS
2019: Cov Cath 27 LaSalle 7 - WIN
Ay-ay-aye, I remember way too many of those GCL losses. Can we bury that list?

Massey ratings have it Elder 42-14. I think it will be closer than that.

I think conditioning might work against us in this one as CCH will be playing several key players both ways. Gonna be close in the first half but it will be very tough to be competitive the full game in the Pit. Running back for Elder is super quick and fast and makes people miss. QB has a good arm and seems to make good decisions when he has time to throw.
If CCH is completely healthy then I think it should be closer than 42-14, but like 92Rebel I was voting in the poll with my heart and not my head.

Both are great sites BUT The Pit definitely gives Elder the advantage.
For sure. I don't know many stadiums in high school sports that give the home team more of an advantage.

It honestly doesn't hurt CCH at all, they seemed to find some very good teams to play, just take a look at the schedule.
The last statement is laughable. I guess I am still waiting for my "life" lessons and competitiveness from walking under a banner.
Hazard has a couple of banners. So does Seneca. I'm not sure those kids are learning very much about life and competitiveness when they stroll around under those banners these days.
Folks need to call this what it is. This is NKAC coaches having sour grapes. If Listerman and Sully and company are gonna literally take their ball and go home, then so be it. CCH follows the same set of rules they do. Like you said, CCH found very good teams to fill out the sked.
The stakeholders at CCH know exactly what's going on. A decent number of them don't like having kids coming from Ohio and playing for the CCH, who used to thrive off of kids from diocesan schools. A decent number of them like seeing the program's success and a decent number of them don't really care one way or the other. The school enrollment is doing just fine.
If anything, with the number of kids from all around Boone/Kenton/Campbell County that go to CCH these days, I'd think that the public school coaches would border on gratitude for all the transfers from Ohio that are giving kids a reason to think about staying in their district public schools instead of going to CCH and potentially being benched when some next best thing transfers in and Ruthsatz benches him to play the transfer. I guess Sully didn't see much impact from having TJ Deere back at Cooper to lead the team in points a couple of years ago.-

My point that I was making is that Jimmy Pangallo has given a lot to that program and from what I am gathering was not happy about being cast aside.
It's not that I don't feel for him if he thought he was overlooked. But if Luhn was the better candidate for the job, then sometimes "them's the ropes".

So why does a guy with this much experience now coaching high school basketball at a parochial school no less?
I will say this, Jimmy Pangallo IS NewCath basketball just like John Wimzie is Holmes basketball. They have the intangible that many others do not, a desire and passion to see their alma mater be successful and most importantly the respect of the kids.
You know, similarly, I've asked myself the same questions of one Robert B. Sphire. Why does someone near retirement age, living in warmer climate not far from the beach, with a better paying job and years in the Georgia public teacher retirement hopper, and experience coaching semi-pro football leave that job to come to Highlands?
I guess the answers are known only unto God.

Any updates on the QB competition?
I'm still waiting to hear how the transfer QB from Campbell County is possibly eligible at CCH.

So according to what CWB just posted it looks like Campbell's schedule needs updating. Both Highlands and Dixie show a game against each other, which puts Campbell on the outs for 10/28 and then Dixie shows Campbell at Dixie on 10/14.
CWB is that right that Dixie only has 2 home games? -

Just taught myself how to edit my post, haha. Assuming game time for the freshman bowl is TBD?
Also just saw that Campbell Co shows Highlands on 10/28 but Highlands shows Dixie for 10/28. I think the Campbell Co schedule came out pretty recently and I found that Highlands schedule on Twitter back in like April. Any idea which schedule's right? -

I really enjoyed following the freshman football action around NKY last year. I rarely have a chance to keep track of any teams other than CCH.
I haven't seen a freshman schedule for CCH yet this year, but I've seen Ryle, Highlands and Campbell County's schedules.-

Should be an exciting year again for NCC. Geisler, Welch at RB. Kolt Smith QB. Plenty of returning WRs back. Young in the backfield but really talented. By the time district comes around, they will be ready.
I'm hearing conflicting reports about Geisler's status as a Bred vs. as a Bird.

Anyone hearing what I'm hearing about where we're playing the Elder game?

Will Hummel get more reps this season? Kid is way under utilized IMO. Pound for pound toughest player in NKY for years IMO. Would love to see him become a more focal point of offense. And before anyone cites his size, refer to Julian Edelman .... 😎
I expect to see a lot more use of Hummel and Mason both. They're both speed demons and may well be two of the fastest running backs in NKY this year. From what I've seen out of Mason he was the more elusive of the two. He's going to be a major part of the defensive backfield though so I wouldn't expect him to be the entire main even when it comes to offensive running game.
Hearing the Campbell Country transfer looks to be most likely to start at QB.

You have to be impressed with all the off season moves at Highlands. How it all translates to the field this fall remains to be seen, but they sure are structuring themselves like an elite program.
I'm just glad their hashtag game has made a triumphant return to elite status.

All CCH. I think we use this game to work on airing it out and giving Adam some more pass attempts.
Colonels by 4 touchdowns.
