Lol, way back when, Cov Cath's Wikipedia page said that unbeknownst to most people outside of NKY, Wooton field was built in top of an active volcano, and the Cov Cath vs. Highlands games got dicey some years because of the over-active volcano season in Park Hills.

I remember that. That was back in the days of Little Mikey Clines' overly-competent principalship.

So competent that the administration never bothered to update, check, or take any ownership of managing their Wikipedia page.

I don't think there's any chance we see Rodriguez until the playoffs, at best. He broke his elbow in the Cooper game.

He had quite a weekend when they played Beechwood: he showed he is clearly CCH's biggest gamechanger in that game and had the Notre Dame visit the next day, but he is now done for the season.

Dang hate to hear that. Thought someone said he could be back in the post season?

Small chance at best-we are preparing like we won’t see him again until next August.

Heard 6-8 weeks from the surgery. That's round 2 of playoffs at best.

Our offense and defense both would be looking much different this week with Willie in the game. Is Seth Jones back in pads? The original post mentioned 8 CCH players out with injuries against Boone.

I'm curious to see if Coach Burke decides to start playing a few players both ways - especially after the way the game against Cov Cath went. I think there's a decent chance that the disparity between Dixie's offensive line and defensive line may have been brought to the forefront a little bit in that game.

Part of me also wonders how much of a fit Dixie's "hurry up and go" style of offense ends up causing for their own offensive line as it does for the defenses they face. Sure, snapping the ball within 10 seconds of the previous tackle being made will keep the defense on its heels, but if the defense does manage to get set in a scheme that the O-line isn't expecting to see, it sure doesn't give the offense much time to get adjusted.

I think Highlands' defense is going to struggle early against Dixie's offense if Dixie comes out rocking their no-huddle hurry up look. But then I also think the way I saw Dixie's defense struggle against a diverse offense like Cov Cath's with multiple skills players, Dixie is going to struggle if Highlands has Benke, Noon, Hosea, Giesler, and Class putting it together against them on offense.

In my estimation, this one should be pretty close through at least one, maybe two quarters...but then I expect to see Highlands pull away in the second half. I won't go so far as to say that I don't think Dixie has a chance in the game, because I think they do, but I figure Highlands will win this by at least a couple of touchdowns.

Hopefully the coaching staffs keep their cool at the end of this one.

Who are you rooting for in this one Colonels Wear Bleu?

Subquestion, a Bluebird a Red Colonel and a Tiger are in a three-way standoff. Who do you want to win?

Looks like it, from the PrepSpin countdown. It's been listed in the KHSAA Scoreboard for 7:00 since the schedule came out, and I checked again this morning. One of the Colonel Athletic Network guys had a tweet about an hour ago that showed a 7pm kick, so who knows what happened with that. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like the line of communication is a well oiled machine.

    - With a positive spin, beating a really good small school in their own stadium after a long bus ride is no doubt a good win. With a negative spin, having a close game with a 1A school that couldn’t throw the ball at all (even though the QB was a real nice athlete) is concerning.

    - I think we are going to be in a lot of one possession games this year, probably against Lex Cath, Ryle, Cooper, Highlands and maybe Beechwood. We can’t have 2 bad special teams plays (getting a punt blocked and roughing their punter). Even though that was offset by Braylon Miller taking a punt back for 6.

    - Miller is a nice player, not a crazy athlete, but I think he’s really technically sound in coverage and dynamic as a returner.

    - I thought Evan Pitzer played well. His ability to create off schedule and use his legs was a big difference, especially in the first half. We are going to need to have him keep improving to beat some of the better teams on the schedule later on. On the stream, I couldn’t tell if he was holding on to the ball too long or if the OL struggled in pass pro, I’m leaning towards the OL struggling. We have to get it cleaned up or use more max protection since we aren’t yet able to generate explosive plays within the flow of the offense.

How many of the linemen are practicing playing both ways? I haven't paid that much attention to it this year.

As a 5A school, CCH should have players enough to have dedicated offensive linemen who practice fulltime on offense and a separate squad of dedicated defensive linemen who practice fulltime on defense. I think the attempts we see at arm tackling on defense and the confusion on the o-line when the defense brings a war party blitzing will clean itself up a lot if we had fewer players going both ways.

Hearing Dixie was short a linebacker in this game. Apparently CovCath is fighting the transfer of a kid from them to Dixie. I hope they get that resolved soon the kid is a senior. Drama between the red/blue colonels.

With that player a senior, I hope Cov Cath let's him go.  Based on how they handled a similar situation last year, they won't let the player play for them this year anyway.

There is no ‘fighting a transfer’. The kid either played varsity or he didn’t. If he played varsity, he is ineligible for one calendar year from that date unless they meet certain criteria like change of address.

On 8/20/2022 at 5:39 PM, Finkle Ray said:

The address of the player wouldn't be an issue in this circumstance. So the one year rule would make more sense if you are correct there isn't anything in motion to prevent the kid from suiting up.

He had an address change, CCH deemed him Athletically motivated and he got ruled ineligible. Our hearing isn’t until 9/12.

So petty. And I’m guessing this is the AD making this call and not Eviston.

At this point I’m not sure but I’m not counting it out that the coach had nothing to do with it.

CovCath won't let him leave but have no problem with letting Ohio kids play for them.

    Unfortunately you are correct.

Peighton Finck played 2 varsity games at Cov Cath in 2021, per the KHSAA stats. Looks like the last time he was in was against Boone County on October 1st. He was playing middle school football at Turkeyfoot prior to starting at CCH, so it would seem that he was at least living in Dixie school district territory immediatelt prior to his time at CCH. I don't know where he may or may not have lived in the last three years, but still, seems to me he more than likely won't be eligible to play at Dixie until October 1st.

So are you saying there was some “drama” surrounding this kid?

I guess that depends on your definition of drama. If making a grandiose performance of "I think I want to quit the basketball team" and "I wanna go to a different school" every semester and fighting for attention at every turn fits into your definition of drama, then yes that's what I'm saying.

Sully is a fantastic coach and proved it again. Great effort by the Jags. Congrats to CovCath on a survive and advance win.

"Survive"? I don't know if that even qualifies as a back handed compliment or if it's just an outright jab.

CCH won by 12 points. Cooper's only point (singlular) in the 4th quarter was a free throw. That sounds like some very competent "surviving" by CCH if you ask me.

I could go on about my thoughts about how fantastic a coach Sully is in relation to his ducking CCH in their basketball schedule and what kind of lesson that teaches his players, but I won't.
