So we are probably the only sporting event still happening in the country, but the adult national wheelchair basketball tournament is being played since all teams had already arrived last night. Not sure if we're lucky or crazy? Now the good news - the Cincinnati Royals advanced to the Final 4 with 2 victories today! First game was a 60-49 victory over the #15 seed Sioux Falls. Jaime Mazzi led the Royals with 23 points including 5 3-pointers. Second game was a 57-56 win over #10 seed Madonna Magic (Omaha). Back and forth game but the Magic tied at 56-56 with a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left. Royals advance ball to midcourt and call timeout with 0.4 seconds left. Run inbounds play to get a shot up and Greg Johnson gets fouled with no time left on the clock. Misses first FT but makes second to win the game! Jake Counts leads Royals with 18 points. We play in the semifinals tomorrow morning at 10:00. Thanks it is very disappointing especially for all the seniors who were hoping to play in their final tournament.

Well I definitely spoke too soon. Unfortunately the junior division was canceled but the adult portion of the tournament will continue since most of the teams were already here.

Both our teams the high school Cincinnati Dragons and the adult Cincinnati Royals are here in Wichita for the national tournament Thursday-Sunday. As of right now, the tournament is still on. I will provide updates throughout the tournament. The Royals will play games tomorrow at 9 and 3 and the Dragons will start on Friday. We are hoping to livestream the games on our Facebook pages if anyone is interested in watching - links below. The Dragons will be heading to the national tournament in Wichita next week. We will open with the #12 seed Lakeshore Lakers from Birmingham. The Dragons beat the Lakers 4 times in the regular season last year but this will be the first meeting this year. Henry Clay finishes the regular season with a 24-5 record and ties the school record with their 18th consecutive win.

I'm a little torn on this. Played HS ball and made it to the Sweet 16 when we won regional championship with a final score of like 37-32. So I appreciate teams that play with a lot of patience and good shot selection. My son started playing wheelchair basketball a couple years ago and we have a 30 second shot clock at the HS level. Flow of the game is much better, especially compared to HS basketball in the postseason. I think a shot clock of even 40-45 seconds would be a good addition to the HS game. As far as cost, our wheelchair team hosted a tournament this year. Bought a good used shot clock for $700. Would take a little training to get someone proficient at running it but I don't see the cost as being prohibitive at the HS level.

Dragons lose in championship game to the Bucks. We finish in 2nd place out of 13 teams in our Midwest Conference. Next games will be at the National tournament in Kansas in March.

Dragons beat Chicago Hawks 55-50 in a back and forth exciting game. Advance to championship game against #1 nationally ranked Milwaukee Bucks.

The #2 seed and #5 nationally ranked Dragons open up their conference tournament with a 71-37 win over the #7 seed Motor City Wheelz. They advance to the semifinals tomorrow morning against the #3 seed and #6 nationally ranked Chicago Hawks.

The Cincinnati Dragons finished in 4th place out of 12 teams at the Big Peach Slam Jam in Atlanta this weekend. This is probably the most prestigious regular season tournament with 4 of the top 5 and 6 of the top 10 nationally ranked teams competing. Tough weekend for us but playing some strong competition will help us in the long run. They lost a couple games earlier in the year when their star player Peter Berry was out. Kentucky School for the Deaf needs to be added to the list. They are 0-6 on the season and currently at a 31 game losing streak stretching back to the 2017-18 season. Unfortunately I don't see that ending any time soon.

The Cincinnati Dragons wheelchair basketball team finished in 3rd place out of 15 teams at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Junior Regional Tournament this weekend. This was a very competitive tournament featuring 5 of the top 10 ranked teams in the country and the 3rd place finish is our highest finish in the 3 years we've played in Whitewater. The Dragons went 3-2 in this tournament and now have a record of 18-5 for the season. The Dragons will be back in action at the end of January when they travel to the Big Peach Slam Jam in Atlanta.
