Anyone surprised by the outcome?
No. The gap between the Big 4 in NKY and everyone else is wide. Even if Baker and Green are a wash, and I'm on record as being pro-Sarah in that discussion, Birds have no answer for Quinn at all.
Highlands is a year away from being a threat in the 9th.

We get the matchup we wanted in the semifinals: Newport and Lyon County. Awesome!!
-
I think the Birds are catching CovCath at exactly the wrong time, so I'll take Colonels by 20+.
-
Interesting Nugget that someone just sent me:
The 2022 All A Classic Semi-finals were Owen County vs Holy Cross and Owensboro Catholic vs Pikeville. Owen County nipped HC by 1 in the semis and then beat O-Cath by 11 in the finals.
Maybe it is Nicholas County's year. 😉
-
So the Semis: Nicholas County vs State #8 Holy Cross // State #4 Pikeville vs State #6 Owensboro Catholic.
Pretty solid quartet, with 3 of the top 8 teams in the state in the All A Semifinals.
-
State # 4 moves on to face State #6 in the All A Classic semis tomorrow.

Good. Actions have consequences, if they don't learn that at home, maybe they can learn it on BGP.

State #6 O-Cath advances comfortably over DCA at Corbin Arena.
I expect they'll be playing Pikeville tomorrow and that game should be terrific!!!

Final from The All A Classic at Corbin Arena.

@The Professor Were you in attendance? Hopefully you or @rjal can give us a first-hand account of this one.

Very solid outcome for the Neers, and that 3rd Q should provide some optimism.
-
Looks like the girls yesterday shot 28% from three, with four of the eight games being 24% or less combined from the arc. Nerves, maybe, but guessing it isn't a great building to shoot in if you aren't used to it?

Sayre has a really solid club. Also, those 8:30am games aren't the normal setup for high school basketball so upsets can happen.
The scores yesterday, and now this one, are rather low-scoring. I've never been to Corbin Arena, but are the sightlines bad? Is there a lot of empty space behind the baskets?
-
Whew.....a little closer than many expected. Like everyone else, I'm hoping we get a Newport / Lyon match-up on Saturday in the semis.
-
I think WV will be a slight favorite vs Nicholas County, but only just. Should be a really competitive game on Friday morning.
Solid win today for the Lady Bearcats! Congrats to Coach Gayheart and her student athletes.

With the tourney starting tomorrow at Corbin HS, I'm resurfacing this info and discussion.
One additional point, unnecessary for all of you, but make sure each game gets its own thread when final.
Good luck to everyone participating, safe travels to teams, fans, and families, and appreciate Corbin jumping in to host this great event in EKU's current state of unavailability.

Highlands has feasted on the soft part of their schedule, as they should, and hopefully Marissa is gaining a ton of confidence. They will be tested with Ryle at NKU.

I love how Chris Stallings runs his program. One of the good guys!
BE and Butler will be interesting, but Butler is a definite favorite.

We have reached the point in the season where there is one month left to play before Districts, and this last 30 days or so will be a sprint to the finish. I did a deep dive into the teams last night, and one really interesting thing at this point is the wide range of schedules that people play. We have teams that play very few of our Top NKY teams, we have others that play a lot of our Top NKY teams, and then we have a group that plays the Top NKY teams and then very strong teams from Ohio or down in KY. Obviously every team shouldn't be running a gauntlet of huge opponents, but it does make some of the records ring a little more hollow as compared to their peers. In fact, to underscore that, below you'll see our Top 10 this week, and then in parentheses for this week, how they have fared this year vs our Current Top 10, I found it pretty interesting. Now, to be sure, not all of our Top 10 teams are created equal, but it does give a bit of a litmus test of where everyone is vs our best competition. Good luck to Cooper and Simon Kenton this week down in the LIT, and good luck to Holy Cross playing in the All A Classic down at Corbin. Safe travels to all of our teams and their families and fans.
1. Cooper 17-3 (4-0 vs our Top 10): at the LIT in Louisville this week
2. Holy Cross 15-5 (4-1 vs our Top 10): at the All A Classic in Corbin this week

4. Ryle 11-7 (3-1 vs our Top 10): vs Highlands at NKU
5. Highlands 12-5 (2-3 vs our Top 10): vs Campbell County, vs Newport, and vs Ryle at NKU
6. Simon Kenton 14-5 (3-3 vs our Top 10): at the LIT in Louisville this week (likely Sacred Heart)
7. Dixie 10-8 (2-6 vs our Top 10): vs Lloyd
8. Conner 9-10 (2-5 vs our Top 10): at Bishop Brossart and at St. Henry
9. Grant County 11-5 (2-3 vs our Top 10): vs Ludlow and vs Spencer County
10. NewCath 12-6 (1-5 vs our Top 10): vs Newport and vs Bishop Brossart
====================================================
8th: Walton Verona 11-7 (0-2 vs our Top 10)
9th: Bellevue 12-5 (0-3 vs our Top 10), St. Henry 8-8 (1-4 vs our Top 10)

The Neers need to lock and load. In the next seven games on their schedule 5 are in the top 12 in the state. This is going to be a good warm up for Districts and Regionals. Good luck Lady Pioneers, play hard.

As I said in the prediction thread, Highlands' timing couldn't have been worse.
Rough night for both sets of Birds at Truist Arena, but I like the idea and hope they do it again.
