Lady Aces are really playing well right now, they are going to be a huge factor in Corbin this week. Their game with Bethlehem, especially is Macy is near 100%, will be one of the best 3 games of the week down there (final and semi-final on the bottom half).

Newport ends a 9 game losing streak with the road win in Covington.

Very solid road win!!!

Huge win for the Lady Jags!!!! It won't be without any opposition, but Cooper will be a VERY tough out at NKU next month. Been a heck of a few years for the Lady Jags, and Coach Holthaus has cemented himself as the best coach in the Region for girls' hoops.

32-4 run to end the game? What on Earth?!?!

roads in NKY are improving I think... just not out here in the sticks. Mine was plowed and salted a few hours ago...you can't even tell.
Looks like Holmes and Holy Cross boys are going to play as well.
Be safe, man!

the ones that haven't been canceled will be soon.
I'm not sure. I know they are trying to play the CovCath at Lloyd game, and I also have been told they "want" to still play the 33rd District Boys / Girls doubleheaders tonight.
All of that said, you could be right. I was just out and about and the roads were fine, but I'm sure the dropping temperatures tonight will be a factor.

The scoreboard at khsaa.org has the games listed and the cancellations noted already. About half the games on the boys' and girls' side are cancelled for tonight as of when I looked last.

That’s still just baffling that Ashland could beat them by 38 points. Head scratcher to me. I’ve seen both teams on streaming services and imo there’s not much difference in them. But if Biggs was 1/12 Ashland has to be credited with some fantastic defense. She had 32 against us in our opening game of the season in a tournament in McKee.
I have seen both in person, and as much as I LOVE Woods' game for Ashland (for NKY fans, think a game similar, maybe even a "little" better, to Anna Hamilton), who missed their two losses to CAL and Anderson County, I'd have thought Boyd would have been the mild favorite in this one. Ashland doesn't have a lot of size, which Boyd does with Jordan and Biggs, and while they can make it really hard for the ball-handler and denying inbounds passes, I still thought Boyd would have been a half-a-tick better. Way wrong.
Congrats to Coach Davis, her staff, and the Kittens, this is one that grabs people's attention.
That return trip, at Boyd County, on February 6th, will be one to keep an eye on.

Where’s Ashland Blazer??? They just defeated #8 Boyd County by 38 points.
17th, in the "others receiving votes", and I'm sure they'll jump way up next week.

Thanks Nut. Impressive road win the night after a big rivalry win.

Holy margin, Batman. Never would have seen that coming.

I like Holy Cross to make the finals against one of Bethlehem, O-Cath, or Pikeville. Holy Cross will have a great chance to defend their State Title, but all 3 of those from the bottom half would be adversaries. Holy Cross vs Pikeville was a great All A game a couple of years ago at EKU, so a rematch of that would certainly be fun.

A little over halfway through. Would any of your Top 10 on the girl's side change? Does anyone need to be added? Just curious on how the list is holding up in your opinion. Anyone else please chime in as well.
I'm 100% biased, but I think my list of Top 10 players has held up pretty well. As I referenced in that post, I had another group of players that were in the consideration set, and almost without exception, I am pleased with where we landed.
Aniyah Carter from Holy Cross has probably been my biggest surprise of those that didn't crack the Top 10.
I still think you could re-sort Quinn, Julia, and Anna based on your preferences, or slicing metrics to support your story, but when they literally play the 3 different positions on the floor (point / wing / post), it makes compare and contrast so incredibly hard.

Good morning NKY Girls' Basketball fans! We had a terrific week of basketball around NKY, and in a few cases, it was teams in defeat that showed an awful lot about what they could be capable of. Holy Cross losing by 2 at GRC (KY #2) was very impressive, doubly so when you decipher some of the "oddities" of the game management. Ryle played Cooper on Friday night right to the end, and doing so without the future Penguin, Sarah Baker, in the 2nd half. Simon Kenton had Notre Dame on the ropes in Park Hills before a late Panda flurry turned the game in the last minute.
I contemplated flipping NDA and HC this week, but as the schedule gods' would have it, they'll settle it on the court in Park Hills on Wednesday. I've said all year I think NDA wins this game, but HC is undoubtedly playing better right now, plus you add in the rivalry layer, and the former coach leading the home team, well, you get the picture, it will be GREAT. Pack the stands for the young ladies. Alas, the only movement this week is replacing WV at #10 with red-hot Conner (winners of 6 of 7), who, coincidentally, also has a head-to-win over WV anyway. Here is this week's top 10, and others, along with their opponents for this week! Bundle up!!
1. Cooper 16-3 (2-0 last week): vs Boone County and vs McCracken County at Mercy (Great Game)
2. Notre Dame 14-3 (2-1): vs Holy Cross (Wednesday night in Park Hills!) and vs Henry Clay
3. Holy Cross 12-5 (1-1): at Notre Dame, at Campbell County (sneaky good game), and at Beechwood
4. Ryle 10-7 (0-2): at Conner (really interesting one!!!) and vs Southwestern at Mercy
5. Highlands 10-5 (2-0): vs Dayton and vs NewCath
6. Simon Kenton 12-5 (2-1): at St. Henry and vs Williamstown (not sure this one will happen)
7. Grant County 11-4 (1-0): vs Conner (really good game!) and at Walton Verona (also a good one!)
8. Campbell County 12-4 (1-1): vs Lloyd, vs Holy Cross, and vs Oldham County
9. Bishop Brossart 11-3 (off): at Boone County and vs Lloyd
10. Conner 8-10 (2-1): at Grant County and vs Ryle
==========================
8th: Walton Verona 11-7
9th: NewCath 11-5, Bellevue 11-4, St. Henry 7-7
10th: Scott 11-6
Have a great week, stay warm, and get out and enjoy some of the great games around the area this week!

So happy for Pete and The Lady Lions. Jordan & Biggs are a heck of a duo.
-
Yikes, Douglass coming off a double digit loss to Butler beats Notre Dame decisively. Interesting result.
-
Very impressive result, in general, GRC isn't only very good, but they are nearly unbeatable at home for a lot of reasons. Losing at #2 by 2 is a missed opportunity, for sure, but is still an incredibly impressive result.

I will pass on giving any congratulations.
Go O-Cath!

Boyd is nice and very well coached!!! Congrats to Pete and his team.

Just now, TheDeuce said:
So they scored 43 in 16 minutes of running clock time.
They could have easily run a TON of time on each possession just running motion and working on other things. They clearly didn't. They had to have at least 30 possessions in the 2nd half, even if they shot it exceptionally well with virtually no push-back from Ft. Knox, they obviously weren't doing anything to slow the tempo and elongate the possessions.

As I said two weeks ago, and frankly they are playing even better now, if they don't play Sunday in Corbin in the Finals I will be SHOCKED.
