So they scored 43 in 16 minutes of running clock time.

They could have easily run a TON of time on each possession just running motion and working on other things.  They clearly didn't.  They had to have at least 30 possessions in the 2nd half, even if they shot it exceptionally well with virtually no push-back from Ft. Knox, they obviously weren't doing anything to slow the tempo and elongate the possessions.

The running clock rule is only in effect for the second half of a game.

Correct, and I think THAT is the change that needs to be made.  There is no need for normal clock rules so the halftime score can be 70-5, or whatever.  At least put it into effect in the 2nd quarter, IMHO.

  3. That is a little bit more of a margin than I'd have expected...did Flanagan not play for St. Henry?

Good balance for Holy Cross, and nice production around the basket by Rominger and McElheney.  They are a good duo, one a bigger body, one a crazy-high motor and really efficient around the basket.

I really like the Kunstek young man for the Cru, he'll be fun to watch develop in the future -- he has a great frame to build upon.

got to call them all out if your gonna call any. This is sad.

My "call out" was largely due to the fact that they already played once and the same thing happened, there is just no need to subject them to that again.  You'll notice, I almost never post these ugly, lopsided, scores because I don't think it serves any purpose, but when you've played them once and you did the same thing to them, there is just no need.

Can you imagine Covington Latin playing Notre Dame.....twice....because they are in the same district?

Whether or not Ashland could have done something different (they could!) isn't my point here, although as I said, I hate it.

  5. Okay, first off, I hate this, I admit it.

However, they played earlier this year and Ashland won 76-4, did we need to see it again?  I realize they are in the same district, but which team does this "rematch" benefit?  Just take the loss for district seeding and go play someone your girls can compete with.

  6. Final from Park Hills.

SK jumped on Notre Dame early, the PaNDAs spent all game clawing back into it, then took the lead in the final minute and head on.

Holtzapfel with some big threes.  Gibson with a ton of boards, and some late points to get over the hump.

Entertaining game, but not sure it is one Kes will hang in "the Louvre".

Any surprise that Brannen hit a home run with this?

Did he?  I'm not saying he didn't, but I think to say that he did would be wildly premature.

What is best case scenario here?  What did Brossart do on the varsity level in their first 3 seasons?  That doable at SHDHS?  Could it be better?

I hear about all of there rumblings that players that would have gone to CovCath from Boone County will now go to St. Henry, but I will believe it when I see it happen.  You want to go be a big fish in a puddle (initially, for sure) or play and develop in a large program and play meaningful games?

Will be interesting, to be sure, over the next few seasons.

  8. Well, we had a mixed bag of Girls' Hoops in NKY this week, and the result is a fair amount of movement in the poll -- and in the rankings of 9th Region others.  We had some losses that probably could be called unexpected, we had some really impressive wins, and we have some GREAT games on the slate for this week.  We have some really gaudy records but against rather lackluster schedules, and we have some below .500 records against great schedules that are likely equally misleading.  All in all, the first month or so has been terrific, but the next two months promise to be even better!!!  Here we go:

    1.  Cooper 14-3 (2-0)  This week:  vs Campbell County and at Ryle (on January 12th, be there!)

    2.  Notre Dame 12-2 (2-0)  This week:  vs Simon Kenton (1/8), vs Great Crossing, and vs Frederick Douglass at GRC

    3.  Holy Cross (3-0)  This week:  vs Holmes and at George Rogers Clark (KY #2 team)

    4.  Ryle 10-5 (1-1)  This week:  vs Sacred Heart (KY #1 team) and vs Cooper (again, 1/12, be there and enjoy this great rivalry)

    5.  Highlands 8-5 (1-0)  This week:  at Scott and vs Ursuline (OH)

    6.  Simon Kenton 10-4 (1-1)  This week:  at Notre Dame (1/8), vs Conner (sneaky good game), and vs Assumption

    7.  Grant County 10-4 (2-0)  This week:  vs Williamstown

    8.  Campbell County 11-3 (2-1)  This week:  at Cooper, vs Fleming County, and vs Mason County

    9.  Bishop Brossart 11-3 (1-1)  This week:  OFF

    10. Walton Verona 9-7 (3-0)  This week:  at Pendleton County, vs Scott, and at Holmes

    ==========================================================

    8th:  None

    9th:  Conner 6-9, NewCath 9-4, Dixie 5-8, and St. Henry 7-5

10th:  Scott 11-3 (chances this week against Highlands and Walton Verona to show they should be ranked)
