Amazing to say when they are up 11, but they haven't really played well. Kind of, I don't know, sloppy? Off-kilter? Just an odd game thus far.

I like the Colonels in this one. Moeller plays a very active zone defense, which should be interesting to watch CovCath attack it. They also want to get in transition on misses, especially long misses on wayward threes, so if the Colonels aren't hitting from deep, will be interesting to see is Moeller can grab those and get out and run for easy ones. Moeller is very sloppy with the ball, so one key for me will be can CovCath's ball pressure turn them in the open court. That would help the Colonels score before Moeller can set up their zone and lock-in at that end. Moeller also shoots it very well from the charity stripe, so CovCath will have to defend without fouling. I'll take CovCath in this one 59-50.

This game was in Alexandria, as well. MoCo had previously lost to Holy Cross by 12 and Campbell County by 12. Brossart has one more chance for a really solid regular season win on Wednesday vs Holy Cross. I would say the best win within their 24-5 record was Pulaski County back on December 28. Has been a very good first year for Coach Stamm in Alexandria, without question, but it would be good to see them end the year with some positive momentum. Holy Cross will be a GREAT test for the Lady 'Stangs tomorrow night.

Biggest game in the state tonight, however, is GRC traveling west to Louisville, to play Sacred Heart. Worth keeping an eye on.

Welcome to the last week of the regular season, at least for me, it feels like this season has flown by! Some of our area teams have as many as 4 games jammed into this final week, others as few as one as they prepare for the post-season. With that said, as you'll see below in the list of upcoming games this week, we have some GREAT ones to end the regular season. Campbell County hosting Notre Dame (2/18) will be terrific, Cooper hosting Assumption (Sweet 16 Semi-final potential preview) (2/20) is high-level, Holy Cros at Brossart (2/18) is the game we all wanted at the All A State Championship, Ryle hosts Frederick Douglass (2/17), and Notre Dame hosting Sacred Heart (2/20), just to name several of the best ones this week. If you haven't ventured out to many games this year because Mother Nature has been challenging, this is a great week to get out, support the local teams, and enjoy some high-level girls' basketball! Last week had a slew of great games, and with the exception of one, every intra-area game went according to our rankings. It was almost uncanny. Cooper beat HC, HC beat Ryle, and Ryle beat Bishop Brossart, who beat NewCath. The one very notable exception was the upset of the year in NKY Girls' Hoops, with Conner knocking off The Birds. Beyond those games, maybe the two biggest wins in the entire state last week belonged to our top team, SKLP, who went on the road and knocked off Frederick Douglass and then Sacred Heart. Wow!!! I can't tell you how much I hope we get to see SKLP and GRC in the Sweet 16 Semi-finals, assuming GRC knocks off the Camels in the 10th. My comments in the 9th Region preview are still my thoughts, Ryle is the 2nd best team in the region.

Upset of the year in the 9th!!!! I couldn't be happier for Coach Gambrel and the Cougars, what a great win nearing the end of a very long season.

Wow -- very impressive for South, and kudos to HC for pulling it out on the road.

Again, a little closer than you'd have expected, but either way, The Indians get the road win and head back up 71 with another roadkill in the bag. Next up for Holy Cross is at Brossart next Wednesday (18th). Could be a sneaky good game.

They would be, IMHO, the 3rd favorite behind Assumption and GRC. But could they? Absolutely.
