2019 Miss Basketball Finalists
Wiley-KY replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
I still stand behind all that I posted! How can one be a candidate for the best player in the state but yet doesn’t play against the best teams in the state nor is their team a top 25 team in the state. I’m sure you are proud of your daughter and you should be as a parent. But when picking the best player for a Region it should be based on who they have played and the quality of team they play for and stats based off that! My responses were to those questioning Hayley but welcome to BGP! -

I’ve seen you post before for Harrison County. Quit pretending! Hayley was called out on this thread! So I’ve only responded to those that question her! Sorry that the facts I’ve presented now have you wanting to change the conversation back. If I recall I won the last post war we had on another thread regarding meaningless stats against weak competition. -
2019 Miss Basketball Finalists
Wiley-KY replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Again, Politics! Hayley Harrison led GRC in scoring, steals and blocks last year which was a Final 4 team and she was only selected 3rd team all Region. That makes zero sense! Yet she made the 10th Region All Tournament Team and She was also the only Junior from the 10th Region last year to be selected to the Kentucky Junior All Star Team over the summer which is selected by coaches all over the state. -
2019 Miss Basketball Finalists
Wiley-KY replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
There is no reason other than Politics that Madison Kellione (Harrison Co) was awarded 10th Regions Miss Basketball Candidate. You ask “Why would Hayley Harrison (GRC) be a candidate”, such a questions blows my mind to begin with, but here are a few reasons why. Hayley Harrison (GRC) Signed to Play for UT-Martin (D1). One of the top programs in the OVC Been a major part of her team going to the Sweet 16 the past two years. Only Senior in the 10 Region to be selected to play over the summer on the Kentucky Junior All Star Team. Probably why Cats Pause had her as a Miss Basketball Candidate GRC is ranked Top 10 in the State and 1st in the 10th – Does this not reflect the type of players on GRC’s team? Hayley Leads her team in Scoring and Rebounds which has two other D1 commit/signee (Igo and Bell) as well as an NAIA signee (Flowers) Strength of schedule (This should be the most import data point). GRC has played against 13 Top Teams In and Out of State. 10 Top 25 teams in the state. 1 Top 25 National team (Hamilton Heights Christian Academy) 2 teams (Northwestern, IN and Oak Ridge, TN) ranked amongst the Top 10 in their respected States. That’s 13 Top Teams! Did I say that already! [*]Record 5-8 vs these Top Teams – That’s with starters being out due to injuries! [*]Lead her team to the Louisville Invitation Tournament (LIT) Championship game where she led her team in scoring for the weekend. [*]Selected to the All LIT Tournament Team as well as the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic All Tournament Team [*]Against the 13 Top teams Hayley average is 17.4ppg Madison Kellione (Harrison Co) Committed/Signed to Play where? How far have they made it in the region? Harrison County is nowhere near being ranked in the Top 25 – This should speak volume of how bad their schedule is to be 21-6 and not be close to being ranked. Got Beat by Paris and Bishop Brossart Have only played two Top 25 teams (Mercer and Scott) and lost both. Schedule if full of bottom teams from the 10th and other surrounding regions She takes anywhere between 20 and 30 shots per game. Media and Coaches should not just look at the stats and record from the surface but at who the stats/record are against. Sorry, but neither Coaches nor players should be rewarded for playing soft schedules. I said this before… Harrison Co had a great record last year and returned most if not all their players but yet scheduled weak competition again this season. One can only think to pad their record and stats. Looks like it worked…the 10th region should be ashamed! -

Nope, go back and read...I said the Campbell Win was a good win. I just disagreed with the comment regarding how good Harrison County’s record is and that being an indication of How good they are this season. I also said respect is earned and you have your chance tomorrow to do just that. Good luck tomorrow. -

You have to keep the conversation in context it was intended which is Region POY. So when looking at stats and who’s the best You have to look at who’s played against the best. Some of these girls have shown they can still put up great numbers against really good teams and not just against bottom teams. -

Here are some great stats and why you can’t just go by stats without also looking at who they played. These are for arguably the best five players in the 10 Region. It is very clear from this which players are playing Top Competition and this is just to this point. GRC is playing in the LIT and still has Male on their schedule. Scott still has Sacred Heart left to play. Again to be considered one of the best you have to play against the other best in the State. Stats are like records, very misleading when you play a soft schedule! Harrison Co had a great record last season and instead of scheduling tougher this season and seeing how they match up against other good teams in the state they went back with a weak schedule. Most teams on their schedule are bottom teams from other regions. Shame on them! The 10th as well as all regions should really take that into consideration when voting on awards. Too many team around the state do this to boast great records and stats. To be considered the best you have to play against the best! -

Respect is earned not given! To be considered good you have to be willing to play good teams! I wouldn’t knock the other TEAMS in the region who are actually playing quality teams in prep for the post season. Jan 29 will be a good measurement on how Harrison stacks up amongst the top teams in the region. True chance to earn respect! -

In most cases I would agree, BUT to a team that is atleast 40 point behind the top teams in the region is very hard to over look. Especially with that loss being at Harrison Co. Inline with what you are saying you can’t judge a team by its record! You have to look at the quality of teams they have played. Which goes back to my response to your original post. -

Wiley-KY replied to Carmine Carmineti's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
I would say a quality win but a 15-4 record with a soft schedule that has only one top 25 teams on it, which hasn’t been played yet, doesn’t mean anything! Especially, with one of the losses being by Paris at Harrison Co. -
Lincoln County 65 Simon Kenton 52
Wiley-KY replied to PacMule's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Did you watch any of Lincoln’s games? Maddy Boyle who plays point is the MVP on Lincoln’s team right now. She was in the zone against GRC and Scott Co didn’t get to watch her against Simon Kenton. A complete floor general! Sets her teammates up for buckets as well as gets her own! Plays with an edge and has great ball control! She lead Lincoln with 18ppg over the weekend. Would love to know how many apg she had? I’d say that’s more than a contributor! -

It was extremely unfair! Neither girl deserved ejection which comes with an additional two game suspension. Technical should have been issued and game played on. -

The other girl shoved Harrison twice. Harrison stood her ground didn’t back down but nor put her hands on the girl that shoved her. The video is out there somewhere. -

The girl got in Harrison face after she shoved her and Harrison stood her ground. Never once put her hands back on the girl but yet the ref ejected both players. -

Harrison was out due to a two game suspension where she was ejected in the Scott High game after being shoved when attempting to help a girl up who had fell into the stands. Instead of the Ref issuing a Technical on the girl who shoved he ejected both players. Unfortunat situation for Harrison! -

Key players Missing from the game: Hayley Harrison 17.8ppg Kennedy Igo 14.4ppg Maleaha Ball 11.4ppg That’s 66% of GRC Offense! So to only get beat by 10pts is pretty impressive. What other team can lose that much offense and still compete? -

GRC was missing their Top 3 players Harrison, Igo and Bell. All three have signed or committed to play D1. These girls are GRC’s top scorers as well as other stats. -
George Rogers Clark 62 Scott 53
Wiley-KY replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
That is what is so puzzling! Other than Meredith showing frustration with Harrison guarding her this was an isolated incident. There were no warnings or anything prior to the double ejection. Harrison was simply trying to help Meredith up after she took a hard fall into the stands. Such a steep penalty for an incident that should have at most been a technical. Very unfortunate for Harrison who was trying to show sportsmanship. -

Still doesn’t explain Harrison being ejected as well. She didn’t put her hands on Meredith. Her only fault was she stood her ground when she was shoved. -

Wiley-KY replied to gold sunrise's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
She probably deserved a technical for shoving but I don’t think it warranted getting ejected. -

Harrison guarded her in man. Both Harrison and Meredith were ejected the start of the 3rd period after Harrison trapped Meredith causing her to lose her balance and fall into the stands. Harrison went to help Meredith up but was shoved. Harrison was showing sportsmanship but was ejected due to Meredith reaction. Neither player deserved to be ejected.
