Couple other thoughts on these guys. I really liked Max Lawrie when he got some time this year. Will be a nice player next to Wilson on the DL.

Casey Bir is a slot receiver and safety and think he’s going to contribute next year and maybe start at safety.

I think Braylon Miller could start opposite Zion at corner next year with his length and movement skills.

I think we’re going to be really young again next year but I’m not sure there’s going to be much of a drop off at some of these positions and in some cases, we’ll see an upgrade.

The group of Sr's to be were really strong through CYF and had an excellent freshman team as well. Will likely end up being several Sr's that are first year starters next year.  I don't expect to see a large number of soph's that start next year, most aren't physically ready for that anyway. This season we had only 1 sophomore, Jones at LB, who started at the beginning of the season, some other's played some valuable time due to injury, but that was about it.

Well it was definitely lopsided.  Stats are really deceiving which is why watching the game play is so important.

The Colonel's were never a threat to win the game once BG scored. If BG's offense hadn't been off it could have easily been 41-0.  In this type of game 20-0 might as well had been 40-0.

Might BG's offense have been off due to the CCH defense?

CCH D has been really stout all year. However, with all those turnovers CCH never really had a shot once BG scored the second time.

Inside info; the Willie R kid will be special. Kid is strong and athletic. I didn’t see a freshman in KY better then him.

Pitzer and Rodriguez are two names you want to remember

Don’t doubt it one bit. But... lots of kids are great as freshman and don’t continue to progress. I’ve heard great things about both, but they both looked really skinny. It’s a big jump from being a great freshman player to starting Varsity as a sophomore at CCH. Just saying I’m hoping the coaches help them to put on some weight and strength in the off-season so they’ll be in a position to contribute.

I’m hoping for big things from both!

Let’s get back to the Topic next year’s roster?

Gone: Stegman, Schnider, Reardon, Caleb and Dickhouse is huge

could next years team be better?

-Move Aden J to DT ?

-QB: Can Edie get Evan Pitzer ready to start? He’s 6’2 165 pounds as a freshman with potential to be 6’6 200+.

Someone pointed out Pitzer to me on the sideline. Looks like he’s already 6’5”. Probably spot on with the 165lbs though. If he’s got any shot of playing next year will need to put 20lbs at least if not more.

Probably the  same for the Willie R. kid. Heard good things about him as well, but looked just as skinny as Pitzer. Get those boys some protein!

You must have been looking back in a mirror, with that first sentence in this post. If that is what you want to say. Especially since you basically just said the same things, that made me comment on it to begin with.

Losing sucks, and you haven’t had to deal with it much at all the last few years. So I it does make sense, that you don’t seem to get what I was saying in that post.

Back to this game. Covcath has had a great four year run, and their future looks bright for it to continue. Bowling Green has a great team this year, and it should be a great State Title game next week. Best of luck to BG next week!

On a more serious note, you don’t agree that teams can “beat themselves” at times? That’s all I’m saying is the BG was better AND CCH executed uncharacteristically bad in the passing game. Don’t understand how that can be a controversial comment or take anything away from BG.

Your right. CCH played the best game they ever have. No mistakes or easy missed throws. Executed perfectly all night, they were just dominated by the best high school football team in KY history. Just lucky they give a 100 I guess.

owensboro probably shouldn’t even show up next week.

Talent wise, FD may be better than SW, X, and Cov Cath, but discipline wise, no.  Which is why they lost to Owensboro this year, despite having the most athletes of any team in 5A and debatably the state.  I do think last night proved that Owensboro is legit, and this will be an outstanding game.

As for any of those teams being better than Owensboro, I really don’t know, which is why this game is so interesting to me!

No need for the may better than talent wise regarding FD. They have much more talent than BG, O, CCH, SW, X regarding D1 talent. They are proving though the last couple years that talent alone isn’t enough to go all the way.

I like BG to win next week as long as they can stop the pass.

Another poster made a comment about the lack of speed on offense for Covcath, which you all have even said was an issue. Yet you all get sensitive when someone else says it? What he said was probably true, Bowling Green played St. Xavier, Trinity, and South Warren twice. All teams that may have had more team speed than Covcath for this season. So I’m not sure why you and @Samcro took such offense to that comment.

Then you have had Covcath people on here, trying to take away from the win by saying it was Covcath’s own mistakes, and nothing BG did. When the reality is, I’m sure many teams who have played Covcath the last few years. Probably felt the same, when they played Covcath. That they played their worst game of the year against Covcath, and made a lot of their own mistakes. Yet I don’t think many Covcath faithful would have liked, people saying it was more their own mistakes when Covcath has beaten them. Usually teams play their worst games, and make uncharacteristic mistakes when they play someone better than them. Which is what happened last night.

At the end of the day the better team usually is the team that makes the winning plays, and also doesn’t make mistakes to hurt themselves. Which is why Covcath was the better team last season, and why BG was the better team this season. Losing sucks,  but don’t try to act like you all have handled losing better than others. When this thread has shown that you all have said and done many of the same things, you all wouldn’t like people doing when your team had won.

Clown comment. I specifically said it was BOTH BG being the better team last night and CCH throwing 5 INT’s, which is highly uncharacteristic and several of which were self inflicted with receivers being wide open. Stating facts is not taking anything away from BG. They are a great team that I will be pulling for next week. But let’s not pretend that in football teams can’t and don’t at times “beat themselves”. Which isn’t even my point in this game. Just that it was a factor.

  9. 9 minutes ago, Killowatt59 said:

According to several Cov. Catholic fans it appears as if BG didn't beat CC.  CC just handed them game and that's the only way BG could have won.

I mean that's the only way it could have happened, right? 🙄

Don’t think anyone said that. Two things can be true, BG was the better team last night AND CCH committed several unforced errors that were a major contributing factor.

But if it make you feel better.

  10. 6 minutes ago, Volxtile said:

A few were unforced, but I may have been watching a different game than you.  I specifically remember a pass over the middle where a BG defensive lineman hit Jacob’s arm.  Of course that’s just 1/6, but both teams shot themselves in the foot multiple times.  20 forced turnovers in three games isn’t a fluke, Jacob looked terrified all night, even if he had time in the pocket.

He’s looked that way all season, very indecisive. Dropped balls have been an issue all year as well, which I’m sure is a factor as well. Not taking anything away from BG. Really good team. Just pointing out that CCH had their worst passing performance in recent years, much of it unforced. Good teams take advantage of errors, which BG did and made CCH pay for it.

Maybe it's because of the weaker schedule and the fact you probably didn't see BG play those other teams, but there is no way you could have watched BG's games and come with that conclusion.

As proven last night by the result.

Didn’t see BG other games, so just referencing last night. Didn’t see a huge difference in team speed, though BG did have the edge obviously at QB and RB. I believe total yardage difference was just about 100yards in favor of BG. If BG did have the huge edge as some are saying they should have put up 70 against such a “slow” team that turned the ball over 6 times.

Congrats to BG on the win! I’ll be pulling for them next weekend.

Bowling Green has forced 20 turnovers in the last three weeks.  I think it's safe to say they aren't being "gifted" these turnovers.

No idea about the previous games. But if you watched last nights game they definitely were gifted. Wide open receivers last night and just threw the ball directly to BG on 3 occasions. Two others the CCH receivers just tipped the ball in the air for BG. QB had plenty of time to throw. Congrats to BG on being opportunistic, goes a long way to winning. My point was that in last nights game the TO’s weren’t forced by BG, more unforced errors by CCH that BG took advantage of. Credit to BG in doing so.

  13. 1 hour ago, Killowatt59 said:

Yep. Cov. Catholic was one of the slowest teams I've seen BG play all year. Once the game started I knew they were in trouble offensively with what they had.

If this was your take away I’d ask if you watched the game. BG was obviously better last night, but this is just a silly statement. Without CCH playing their worst offensive game of the year with, much of it self inflicted its a pretty even game. CCH’s D line seems pretty fast as they were in the BG backfield all night. BG obviously had the advantage in backfield speed, but even with that the only explosive play was the QB on the second play of the game. CCH had open WR’s all night as well, just badly missed them or dropped balls that were on target. Weird take to basically say CCH was this terrible team that BG beat by 3 scores while being gifted 6 TO’s.

I here you-probably as bad as they could play. I just rather take the high road and give credit where credit is due as I know the Seniors are beating themselves up right now and should celebrate their 41-2 record. But, as I alluded to they are going to be back in the same position for the next few years, and I feel they will finish the deal multiple times.

Agreed. I feel for them, having the last game turn out that way. Such is life at times though. The seniors have a lot to be proud of and had a great run.

I agree that BG was the better team tonight, obviously. However, CCH had WR’s open many times, the QB had plenty of time to throw for the most part. CCH laid a huge egg offensively with the worst performance of the last several years. Much of it self inflicted in terms of the passing game. At least 7-8 on target passes  dropped and multiple INT’s that were off target by a mile directly to a BG db. On a couple int’s it looked like the CCH WR’s were practicing the tip drill, with BG coming up behind them.

  16. Has BG played a really strong passing offense this year? Could be an issue against Wimsatt and O.  CCH QB had plenty of time to throw the ball and had receivers wide open many times tonight, unfortunately QB was either  terribly off target with throws or WR’s dropped  at least 6-7 on target passes. Even tipped 3 passes into the air that fell to BG.

BG D line does a great job stopping the run, really tough LB’s too. I like BG to win IF their pass D can hold up as well as their Run D when that is the opponents primary attack.

BG has a ton of D1 attention. Cooper, the QB, recently picked up a WKU offer. Lightfoot on the D-line is hearing from Cincinnati A LOT. Wouldn’t surprise me if that whole D-line went D1! Bunton is also a D1 back in many peoples eyes. Unfortunately, Covid hasn’t been kind to these 2021 kids in terms of the offers being plentiful.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like BG has some real talent.  This year with COVID has really put a damper on recruiting, a real shame for these kids. CCH has some kids getting D1 attention as well, just tough when coaches can’t get out to watch the games.

    Should be a great game.

I see a lot of people predicting a Cov Cath win, and I respect that.  But what games has Cov Cath had this season to prepare them for this level of opponent?  I understand Jacob is a veteran and knows exactly what it takes, but Cov Cath’s schedule this season has been quite weak compared to prior years.  Cov Cath isn’t the same team they were week one, and neither is Bowling Green.  I simply think Bowling Green has Cov Cath beat in every aspect besides home field advantage and QB play, but that’s my opinion!  Can’t wait for Friday

CCH didn’t have the normal schedule this year due to COVID, however, several of the guys played last year against LaSalle and FD, which I’d believe had a lot more  D-1 talent than either CCH or BG.

Does BG have any D-1 guys outside of the TE this year?

He played great last year. He made some big time throws down the field and did a great job extending plays. This year is just different, losing Mayer is obviously a massive loss and we aren't as good at the other WR spot that we had with Molique last year (though I really like the Soph in that spot).

This year we've been very average in the passing game and the best thing we've done is run Caleb. You can probably tell by my comments how I feel about the game on Friday but we'll see. We need to come out fired up and ready to play.

Very accurate here. Passing game hasn’t been anywhere near last years level, coaches have really scaled it back, part of the reason why you see the QB running so much. On top of that CCH has dealt with some injuries at the RB spot.

Of course ask any successful coach or heck for that matter non-successful coach at a school like Highlands will always state that the fan base and parents are their biggest problem.

I guess this is why Dale was so good, he didn’t let people get to him mentally. He could look a person in the eye and smile at you genuinely but behind that smile he was saying I despise you.

Finding that guy will certainly be the biggest challenge and it could take a few hires to get it right.

Let’s face it, everyone of these coaches are grown adults that will apply for this job. They know what they are signing up for, if it were easy BW would still be the coach.

Dale was obviously a great coach. He did also have far superior talent many years as well. That level of talent hasn’t been at HHS for several years now.

Tom Bolden? How about George Halas while we are at it?

West is a MUCH better job than Highlands and I doubt that they could pay him anywhere near as much as he is making right now.

THIS. West is a much better job with a much higher level of talent to work with.

Now Eviston would bring the great offensive mindset that someone mentioned earlier in this discussion.

I see Eddie moving on to a college level job within the next 2 years so not sure why he would risk taking a Highlands job that may take 2 yrs to get back on track.

I mean someone said Gino is earning $260k per year. All great QBs think alike...

Agree here on Eviston. Only high school job I could see him moving to would be one of the big GCL contenders. More likely though the next move would be to the college ranks for him.
