Should be a pretty fun district to watch next year, Berea will be moved out of district in 2019. Here's my preseason rankings: 1. Paris 2. Bracken County 3. Nicholas County 4. Bishop Brossart 5. Berea I think the big question will be can Bracken County get their hands on the schools first district championship. Last year they lost 14-34 to Paris.

This program will take 10+ years to build back up. I don’t see any coach having instant success. This is one of the biggest hires Mason County Basketball has made in their history. Either take a step forward, or take two steps back.

Section 3 of Bylaw 24, the Dead Period was developed following a nearly year long task force review in the middle-1990s to address a growing issue where year-round athletics was eroding family opportunities for a break from participation, and outside entities were beginning to sponsor a growing amount of school based summer competition. In addition, over the years, many sometimes overzealous coaches required their players to play scores of games throughout the summer, in addition to a year-round workout regimen. While this may seem to be in the best interest of developing sports talent, such is not the purpose of high school athletics. High school sports are to supplement classroom learning and allow for in-season competitive opportunities, not a year-round Olympic or professional development period. Families were complaining that they could not plan vacations and family outings because of coach’s requirements and athletes were complaining of burn out. In addition, schools were increasingly concerned with liability issues related to the summer. In a survey conducted by the KHSAA, 80% of superintendents, principals and athletic directors who returned the survey indicated they supported a “dead period” in the summer. Initial responses were overwhelmingly in support of a four (4) week dead period. The primary intent of the regulation is to eliminate, for an approximately two (2) week period, the leverage a coach has over his/her high school athletes.

Most schools usually get them from Balfour. They do most state championship rings, and some college national championship rings.

The Dead Period is for kids to rest. Not for posters to complain because they have football withdraws; you're not having the kids' best interest in mind, only yours. The KHSAA says that 2 weeks out of 52 there are to be no sports. Even God rested one day!!!

This is the first time all these trophies have been organized ever. When the new school was built in 1998, the trophies and old cases were hauled over to the new high school and put up with no sense of organization. It took almost 8 hours to find each individual trophy and put them in. I've already heard many alumni complement the job well done by our athletic department on getting this done. It was amazing to see how the trophies have changed with time. Going from cups, to tall wooden/copper/bronze, to the boring ones we have now lol. The most interesting was the small wooden plaque from 1943 district, and seeing how WWII affected how important metal was that it was too important to be used on trophies. The earliest one goes back to Brooksville's first district and region championship in 1924. Many former athletes haven't seen there trophies since the day they got the hardware. I'm sure they bring back a lot of memories for people and glad that it is on display for BCHS alumni and opposing schools alike, that the Polar Bears have been successful a time or two! Only thing left to do is to repair some of the damaged ones, and clean them all off for everyone to see at graduation!

Robertson County has a good chance of winning the All A the next few years as well. More rings?

I saw today that Bracken County won 12 straight 38th District Championships from 1980-1992. What other teams have a long streak?

Fair assumption. Also scratch that about Willie Feldhaus. He said in an article he is moving back to Lexington.

I think it will either be Brian Kirk or Willie Feldhaus. Both are PE teachers, and Mason County will have an open PE teacher position next year.
