A lot of CCH attempts were in the final 2 minutes when Walton was sending them to the line... I think CCH was 3 for their last 8, gave them several chances to cut into double digit lead.

For those of us that were skeptical about his decision to play in the JV/varsity games instead of trying to help the freshmen in the regional semis, I will acknowledge the huge mistake ... No way I saw this.... When was the last time Beechwood was the top seed in the district .... I don't think it has happened in my lifetime ... Anyone know?

Holy Cross 46-Beechwood 43, not sure of th CovCath-Walton score but I think it wound up an 8 point difference with Walton making an uncontested layup at the buzzer.

Holy Cross over Beechwood and CovCath over Walton ..... It'll be a 35th district regional final, sort of, Holy Cross v CovCath Monday night.

I think there is a Mcguire at Newport as well as at Beechwood, although I could be mistaken.

I saw Schlosser on Charlie Colemans Northern Kentucky Sports Legends show years later and there was still resentment over that call. I believe Simpson, Bell and Mayes all played Junior Pro basketball on one of the last teams that played Junior Pro and they were part of a really solid 1981 Newport team that was at or near the top of the region that year .... A year that saw Simon Kenton win the state.

Agree on Ally Johnson. Most impressive individual performance I've seen this year .... Step back 3's, difficult right hand runners and left-hand floaters, she did it all. Very, very impressive.

Grant Jolly, Reid Jolly, Tanner Lawrence, Drew Wilson, Logan Harrod, Andrew Helton, .....that's a start .....

I have seen Beechwood play a number of times, and while Jefferson helps, the play of Zach Deatherage has been remarkable IMO. In the 5 or 6 games I've seen them play, he has handled the ball well and consistently put up 16-25 points against good teams, really impressed with how well he's shot the ball from deep.

Holmes is better with Greene, CovCath is better with Coldiron, and Beechwood is better with Jefferson playing up. I think I see a lot more parity than some because I expect most of the games in this tourney to come down to the last couple of possessions. We shall see.

Did Campbell play Walton?

Making the the favorite I have no problem with... Saying no one can compete with them is incorrect. Campbell beat them, they have not played Walton, and Holy Cross led most of the game against them. Teams certainly can compete with them

I think he has played down most of the year... Greene was the only one that had been exclusively JV was my understanding.

I think it used to be considered the Ninth Region freshman tournament, in the days when Walton, SK and Campbell were still in the Ninth. I am glad that they made it an invitational, and kept Walton and SK in it, but I also wonder about why not Campbell. Love their kids and team, and I would have liked to have seen them in it, and I probably would have made them the favorite by virtue of their win over CovCath. Not to take anything away from Walton, because the addition of Miles in the middle makes that a very complete squad as well. Oh well, should be fun. Wildcard in the mix is Holmes IMO ... Greene is now playing frosh (had been JV only) and Big L is playing better. They could surprise .....

(1) Mike Listerman was an assistant coach at highlands (1977-80) and coached against (2) Dicky Beal at Holmes several times, including the Ninth Region finals in 1979. Dicky Beal played at UK against (3) Dominique Wilkins/Charles Barkley/Michael Jordan/James Worthy/Patrick Ewing (1984 Final Four)/etc., all of whom played with or against (4) Kareem Abdul Jabbar with the Lakers (most notably probably Worthy who was on the "Showtime" teams with Kareem and Magic)

It's a shame the tone this thread took. I like both teams and players on both squads, particularly Weyer. Kid is a gamer and what goes unnoticed in the box score is that teams have to focus SO MUCH energy on stopping him, that it creates easy chances for his teammates. NCC got lay ups and great looks from 3 all night because HC was so consumed with limiting Weyer. He is a difference maker on the floor, and I was glad he played, after hurting his wrist earlier in the week. An HC win over NCC without him would have been empty. Having said that though, Bezold going out in the second DEFINITELY affected the game. Both teams are solid, but HC loses its biggest offensive threat and heart and soul. I believe HC and NCC AT FULL STRENGTH ON A NEUTRAL floor will be a great game, hopefully we'll see sometime soon

I think we just disagree about what kids are doing during the summer, and where they are doing it, but whatever. I have not seen anyone address my point about all of the 8th graders who are given tours or "shadow" at high schools that they are considering attending. Parents talk to teachers, administrators, coaches and alumni before deciding where to send their kids to high school. I think the Graves decision makes ALL of that impermissible, yet we should be able to agree that kids can go to high school wherever they choose, limited only by their ability to pay out of district tuition and the school having room to take the student. It is the stated position of the Ft. Thomas Independent Schools, for example, that as long as space permits, it will always accept out of district students paying tuition because that tuition allows the district to pay for so many amenities and programs. I am not understanding the double standard: why should students be allowed to choose to go to Highlands High School from out of district and pay tuition (and that certainly has in the past and continues to include athletes) but when students elect to go to other high schools from out of district there is something improper going on. Seems like a double standard to me. And by the way in no way am I impugning the Ft Thomas independent schools. Quite to the contrary, I think the teachers, administrators, coaches and parents are all quite outstanding and turn out quality graduates speaking generally, and I am not at all surprised that a lot of families choose to send their kids there from outside the district. I just think it is okay for parents to elect to send their kids to OTHER schools without assuming the other schools are "recruiting".
