He should if it says the kids will be punished in the handbook or the school by-laws. If it's a public school, the school board gets to decide and/or interpret existing laws. And they CAN punish for DUI's. Private schools can do whatever their handbook says, and I imagine every handbook in private schools has a clause about DUI's. So coaches would have to follow the rules. Administrators would have to follow the rules. Right?

Private schools fit in that they voluntarily participate. They are not obligated to. We are obligated to participate in government. We HAVE to pay taxes or we go to jail. Private schools don't have to participate in KHSAA. So they fit in that they voluntarily join and agree to abide by their rules, right? If I start a private school, I can create teams and play other teams without jurisdiction of KHSAA. I would be largely unsuccessful in this endeavor, but I could do it.

Part of me thinks you're joking here. Maybe having some fun toying with folks? Because this argument makes absolutely no sense. Would you like me to apply your logic in other ways so you can see this? I just want you to think about it before I do because it would make your argument sound very very silly. Let me know.

Are you on KHSAA's pay role? Because you're the only person I've met who speaks as though they wield such tremendous authority. I know they pay their people VERY well, but they have nothing to do with the government at all. They are not a government. They receive no governmental funds. They have no governmentally-elected officials. I truly don't know where you're coming from with your argument. KHSAA has NOTHING to do with government. I'm in a neighborhood with a HOA. Does that mean I'm a government entity?

Public schools are run by public school boards and funded by public taxpayers. Private schools are run by whoever owns the school. Public schools must abide by the Constitution, all federal laws, and the state laws in which they reside. Private schools must abide by some federal laws (Title IX, ADA, etc...), and few state laws if they receive public funding (such as ACR, vouchers, etc...), which Kentucky does NOT. Private schools have no obligation to follow the Constitution. Free speech is not so free as you are assuming. You cannot yell "fire" in a crowded theater. You cannot say anything you want with no consequences. This is the case in a public school and a private school. In a public school, you can say things like "abortion rocks!" - not in a private, Catholic school, for instance. In a public school, you can say "you suck teacher, I hate you." But there will be consequences. Limiting Twitter activity is not prohibiting the speech. The coach is just saying there are consequences. Free speech is only seen as being prohibited when you have a "captive audience." A basketball team is not a captive audience because they can always quit the team. And KHSAA has nothing to do with this. They are below all state and federal laws. They can be overruled by these entities and they have very few carrots on the end of the stick. So a school joining KHSAA means nothing about their relationship with the government. I don't even know where you're getting this, so please elaborate. I deal in free speech all the time and have argued cases on pretty high levels. Limiting Twitter has nothing to do with free speech. It is a slippery slope in that coaches may not know where to draw the line. You can't go on Twitter, but what about Facebook? What about some social media thing not mentioned or invented yet? What about...? See what I mean...? Slippery slope.

Yes, this. Hall can penetrate with the ball, so they can run and gun on offense. Without Hall, they cannot penetrate, so it's all perimeter passing until they find an open man or go inside to Weyer. NCC is traditionally known for a fast game, up the floor as quick as possible. Brossart is traditionally known for bringing it up the court slowly, passing a lot, and in turn, intentionally slowing down the other team. So when teams play Brossart, the scores tend to be lower, which is fine. Teams typically "play down" to their style and their defense is usually quite good so they can hang with anyone using this method. NCC and Brossart play different styles of ball, but they're both great programs with a lot of upside. Nothing but respect for both. No one should disparage one while trying to bring up the other.

That, and the damning evidence, makes it pretty clear what was going on. People should've followed the rules or been more careful when not following them.

Wholeheartedly agree. And in some regions/areas, it's less severe. In others, more.

Tuition was higher for out of district students for many years. The diocese WAS DOING THIS! Then families just started switching parishes to the district high school they wanted to attend. Priests were furious over losing people just so they could save some money to attend the school they want and the diocese stopped that policy. They opened it wide up. They understand that families can go anywhere and limit in school recruiting to districts only. I've been around a long time and am very involved in the schools, if that helps add ethos to my claims. If not, oh well.

All judgements aside, just let the KHSAA do their work. With 5 different investigations at HC alone, they will find out whether any violations occurred. It wasn't just ND that reported them either. Multiple schools did. So just let the investigation play out and refrain from immediate reaction against individual coaches.

The diocese cannot mandate where kids go to school. There's this thing called free will, and parents/students pick the school that is best for them, whatever the reason. To say that NCC is only alive because students who "should" go to Brossart don't is inaccurate. NCC always has the lowest amount of district 8th graders, yet they exceed those numbers. This year, NCC has 70 8th graders in their 4 district schools. Brossart has over 100. That has been the case for many years. Families choose NCC for a reason, and no one can tell them they should go elsewhere. Bottom line. I'm paying the checks for my kids to go to high school, so they will go where I (my wife and kids) want them to go.

So you're Jefferson's father, right? How else would you know his intentions, right? Especially since he took the test at NCC and registered there for next year. Only you, as his direct parent, would know why those things happened with no intention to attend the school, right? Silliness. Adults invest so much time and meaningless words on what these kids do and where they're going, etc... It just makes me sad.

Do you mean the class is down, in numbers? I thought they had like 86 or 87 freshmen. How many do they usually get? I don't think they ever had a class over 100 in many, many years.
