How did NL look in their first scrimmage was anyone there that can chime in. I will be there this Friday to see how the Rockets look should be a good scrimmage hopefully the format is 2-3 quarters of regular varsity action.

Looks like Greer was hired as Vice principal at Rockcastle.

The west probably has the best talent and best team in CAL but I would argue that there second best team if it’s Lex Cath may not be as good as the East best team. However overall the West would have the best talented teams below the top. The west also has Louisville central but unfortunately they are in same district as CAL. However ppl are saying that CAL lost a lot of players and the gap may not be as wide as years past. Also many are thinking that Mercer isn’t all that far behind Lex Cath for their district title. Guess we will have to see when season unfolds. I would put Cal at the top and then say after that you could put Lex Cath next with Central in a second tier with Catholic. You could then group Mercer, Hart, Union and outside chance in Adair with a puncher chance out of the West for a third tier. The east pretty much has 6 teams that stand out. Bell would be the favorite in top tier like Cal. I would in no order tier 2 Rock,Lawerence and Letcher Central with a third tier consisting of Russell and Lloyd Memorial. However I would argue that on any given night that anyone in tier 2 or 3 could give bell a game an upset them if things go right. 3A while Cal is heavy favorites to win it all I would have to say it has best parity of teams capable of making a run and facing Cal in the finals. Who knows after we witnessed Boyle losing last year prior to state anything is possible and I in no way think Cal is on Boyle county level or at least the Boyle team of last year.

With the returning talent Rock has I feel they should be favored in 8 out of the 10 games on the schedule. The only two they probably won’t be favored in is at Bell and depending on how the season plays out maybe the final game against Southwestern. The Southwestern game Rock very easily could be favored by the time it’s played depending how both teams look. Rock certainly has the ability to finish 10-0 and I would be surprised if they finish worse than 8-2. I feel they are certainly 1 of 4 teams to be favored in the East side of 3A. Especially considering Belfry is no longer in 3A and Lex catholic has been moved to the West side of 3A. I would say in no particular order you have Rock, Bell, Lawerence and Letcher County Central as favorites out of the east with the winner of our district being favorites to make it out being either Bell/Rock. Would I be wrong in thinking that? I doubt any team in the East return as much of their roster as does Bell and Rock. Rock only loss 2 starters from lineup plus kicker.

From mid/late 90’s thru 2000’s it was hard to find a better or bigger matchup throughout the entire mountains then Bell vs Rock. Every year the district was always decided between that game. Crowds were always rocking spirit lines stretch past mid field and the game was always close. One thing was for certain pads would be popping and heard any where in the stands! No matchup better than Dudley Hilton vs Tom Larkey it was smash mouth football at its finest and both teams knew what was coming but each team felt superior to the other and both teams just knew that year they were the better running team with the biggest o-line! This game/series is starting to get back to being competitive now that Rock has Chris Larkey as head coach and since he took over Rock beat Bell 40-38 at log mountain two years ago in what may have been the most exciting game at least in my opinion between the two storied programs! Dudley returned the favor beating Rock 14-3 at Rock last year giving the only defeat Rock suffered during the regular season. With each team splitting games the last two seasons this years matchup looks to be another great game in the series!

Love how even after the game you still didn’t show Rock the respect they earned. Belfry wasn’t the superior team and let’s be honest if the game was played any where other than at Belfry tonight the outcome would have been different. The biggest swing in momentum was the pick that Rock QB threw middle of 3rd quarter. Game was 13-7 and the short field following the pick that lead to the final TD was deciding factor. Take that away and game would have been 13-13 and xp by rock would have given us the lead. It’s very obvious why playing at Belfry is so hard to win when literally the refs allow the players to do anything they want with no flags. If the refs would have done their job Belfry #79 wouldn’t have got hurt and it’s very lucky more players on both sides didn’t get injured. I have never seen a game be officiated or lack there of in any game before especially for the visiting side. All night players where late hitting, and kneeing players even once Rock player had his helmet ripped off just very undisciplined and I figured Belfry would have more class. After the game was over rock players were on the field praying like we always do after the game and you would have fans kids and adults yelling and trying to fight just not what you would expect from a program like Belfry. Just wasn’t a good experience all around.
