  1. I know there are some good organizations. I've seen them also.
  2. Absolutely. The "bigger exposure" events take place in April and July. Nobody misses anything in June. The respectable AAU programs don't schedule tournaments in June anyways. Not to mention that June basketball can be strenuous as well. Some schools will get in up to 20 games in the month of June and all of them practice.
  3. Overall it is. There may be a few teams that break the norm of AAU but for the most part as a whole Professor7 is dead on.
  4. This isn't entirely true. I know more parents that have kids playing AAU that hate it. Kids like it for obvious reasons. Parents don't like it as much as you may think. A whole lot of kids end up with "AAU parents" as a result as well. That's also how you end up with kids transferring. Some kids have parents that simply can't get off of work to travel to some of these tournaments or practices and have other parents from the team looking after their kids on the weekends. Bonds are built, trust is formed, relationships forged and next thing you know, Joe Blow has moved to a new school. But people think recruiting is taking place. Nobody recruits anymore. Kids just play AAU. That's all.
  5. It wouldn't hurt mine either. Kids playing football seem to do just fine being found without AAU. No reason basketball couldn't follow the same model football is using to find out who can and can't play at the next level.
  6. I took it more as kids complaining about their coach and their opinion that their program is going downhill and that they may transfer. Those kids don't care about the school's money.
  7. I could be be mistaken but I think the poster was referring to post #1 and not anything you stated about the Mason County finances.
  8. Come on man, really? You get Snider, Green, Grundy and Cunningham and you probably get Martin and Russell as well. Russell wanted to play in the EYBL and chances are had he been able to play with his Magic team in the EYBL he would have.
  9. This is a great question. Who has some insight to this question? How do the Travelers get their kids? What kids have the Travelers gone after that have turned them down?
  10. Nothing wrong with that at all and I don't blame them one bit. AAU could use more high school head coaches and assistant coaches involvement. Everyone benefits then.
  11. It's still not that easy.
  12. I think people would be surprised at how hard it is and how good you have to be to get a full scholarship for baseball. You damn near have to turn down the MLB in order to get a full ride in baseball.
  13. I'll add to this by saying there are also AAU coaches using AAU to further their coaching careers as well. As much as the college coaches come to watch the players there are also coaches hoping to be seen by college coaches as well.
  14. Nobody is making kids play school basketball in June and nobody is making AAU teams not compete in June. Tell your favorite AAU team to host a tournament in June and make the kids choose which one is more important to them. AAU is good for one thing: exposure. If you aren't good enough to play D-1(which ironically is 99.8% of our KY kids) then AAU is a colossal waste of time and money. It's not about making the kids better individual players it's about being able to brag about which program spits out more top notch talent. AAU helps some talent achieve but overall it ruins the game of basketball and is the reason basketball sucks at all levels these days. All the talking heads in basketball say we are headed to club basketball anyways. Jump start it and fire the first shot. Get the ball rolling and get club basketball on its way. :thumb:
  15. Key words...."in my experience".
  16. I don't have a large understanding of the history of Lincoln County but from what I do know this all makes a lot of sense.
  17. If LexCath defeats Garrard County it will be because they have the better team. Not because of the schedule. Obviously Garrard County defeating LexCath is the only way you'll admit defeat but with the exception of maybe a few I think everyone expects LexCath to defeat Garrard County regardless of either team's schedule.
  18. Slow day at the office. :lol2: Don't tell my boss though.....
  19. I do love some chicken.
