I believe that is because KY is in Region 2 for club soccer.

Lexington Catholic is actually the 1 seed and Lafayette the 2 seed in District 43.

Surprising result last night: Lexington Catholic 3 Dunbar 0. More proof that Dunbar is not quite what they usually are, and maybe Catholic is better than what people think. They will be the top seed in one of the toughest districts in the state.

Not sure how much you have seen this year but Dunbar is good but not great. Step below what they usually are and a step below some of the other top teams I have seen. They can still beat anyone on any given night with Clemente, but they are not the favorite this year. Definitely not the most complete team as offensively they are a one man show, but that one man is pretty dang good. But every top team I have seen has flaws, and some have big flaws. It really makes things interesting. There are probably 10 teams or so who legitimately could win state this year.

Aren't all rankings goofy? But they do provide opportunities for discussion. Best teams I know of or have seen this year. Bowling Green South Oldham Henry Clay Haven't seen Trinity or Cov Cath, but seems like they should be in the above group. Most of the others I've seen in the top 20 are a step below, but not very far behind. I don't think there is a dominant team this year. Should make for an interesting postseason.

What?! There is even a separate field for girls soccer?! Sheesh. You have more than most then! I really don't understand how difficult it is then to coordinate field time. How much time on the field is football claiming to need?! Like I said I deal at a school where 8 teams need the field during the fall and we make it work. And that's even with football doing 2-a-days during preseason. Each day girls soccer gets it for 2 hours, football for 4-5 hours, and boys soccer for 2.5-4 hours. Start at 6 or 7 in the morning and ration out time until 9:30 at night.

Missing the point. I'm just glad I don't have to deal with someone like you at the school I work with.

That is not a new rule. Has been this way for years and years. They are just trying to put more of an emphasis on it because not everyone follows it.

I really don't care about the paperwork or how it all went down. I am sure there were mistakes made on both sides. But at this point none of that matters now. It just sounds like a bunch of adults squabbling and never considering the kids. What's done is done, so figure out a way to make it work with the best interests in mind of all the kids involved. Well there were no changes made earlier this year in regards to 7th and 8th graders participating in soccer and football. They can still play on a non-varsity team.

It is bs that they felt like they even had to submit a proposal that indicated they would not use school facilities. If they are an official SCHOOL sport, they should use SCHOOL facilities. There really should be no debate there. But this is about the kids. It is about offering as many opportunities to them as possible. It's not about winning championships. It's about using sports to help develop kids into respectable adults. I am far from this situation and have no idea about the inner workings, but the adults involved should set the example for the kids and come together to make it work for all parties involved. As for ideas, man it is not that hard. Every school is different, but the coaches involved just need to come together and figure out how to schedule time on the field. It just takes a little compromising. Let me guess, you have one field but have football, boys soccer, and girls soccer all trying to use the field? Happens all over the state. I bet you don't even have a practice field, right? Again, that is pretty common. I am involved at a school that has girls soccer JV and varsity, football freshman, JV, and varsity, and boys soccer freshman, JV, and varsity. We have no practice field, but we make it work every single year. Compromises must be made, and yes it is frustrating to not get as much time on the field as any of us would like, but that is the world we live in and that is what is best for ALL kids involved. If that means each of us have to sacrifice a little bit, then so be it. Finally, so you are saying 7th graders will not be allowed to play soccer this fall? That would be news to anyone I know. Tryouts have already taken place with 7th graders selected on teams. There's no way KHSAA would mandate that AFTER July 15th.

This is a bunch of bs. SO many schools deal with the same thing every single year, and have been dealing with trying to fit many programs at one place for many years. And they all find a way to make it work. Is it ideal? Of course not. It requires sacrificing and working together, whether that means concessions in practice time or sharing the field, etc. But it can be done as it is done at many high schools each and every year. This really does just sound like a bunch of whining. Not sure if there is an additional rule in NKY, but per KHSAA rules 7th graders can also play freshman and JV high school soccer, not just 8th graders.

Yeah I don't see that as a big deal. To be honest, as a high school coach, I would actually embrace the opportunity to have a kid in my program who plans to go to a different school. Kids change their minds and if I offer a great experience maybe he decides he wants to come to my school. If he never played in my program, I would not even get a chance to show that student what he could be missing.

This is tough. Some schools can't have JV teams without juniors swinging between JV and varsity. Some schools can't have JV teams if middle schoolers cannot play JV. Freshman teams are easy - at least to me - let them play. So if you make a blanket rule it will eliminate, or at the very least really hurt, some programs. The numbers are just not there. This is even more prevalent in girls soccer. I have always said why do we make this rule by grade? It should be by age. It is not as common these days for same aged kids to always be in the same grade. You can have kids who are juniors who are the same age as freshman with how many kids are ahead in grade. Combine that with kids who are held back and you can have quite a large grade range of kids at similar age. So a kid who is a freshman but who started school early so is the same age as an 8th grader can play against seniors who may be 18 or 19, but the 8th grader who may be the same age as the freshman can't play against juniors? That doesn't seem to be promoting the spirit of the rule, which is to protect the kids. I personally have no problem with juniors playing JV and no problem with middle schoolers playing JV as well. There are plenty of freshman and sophomores who much bigger physically and more aggressive than a lot of juniors. I don't think the current rule really prevents middle school players from getting hurt - which is what it is intended to do. Along with what I mentioned above, physical growth varies from kid to kid, not grade to grade. But age restrictions would get us closer to what the KHSAA is trying to accomplish with this rule.
