Trinity takes over the #1 spot after Dunbar and Bowling Green both were knocked off. Dunbar by Lafayette and Bowling Green by South Warren. Oldham County makes a huge jump into the top 10. Any thoughts?

So trinity ties St. Henry and moves to 1? After that game I would understand st Henry moving up but Trinity?

Dunbar of course, lost to #25 Lafayette, but rebounded with a 2-1 win over #1 2 Tates Creek. Yes, it’s a jumbled up mess, especially at the top, with 0.2 points separating the top 3!" - this is how Maher explains it.

 

CCH made progress on closing the gap on #1 with only 1.26 scaled Maher Rating points now separating CCH from the top spot. With a stretch of five home games against teams ranging in rank from 29 to 60 it may be hard for CCH to advance its own rating, but teams above it may help out by dropping games they shouldn't. In the end, of course, its just the goofy Maher Rankings anyway.

Aren't all rankings goofy? But they do provide opportunities for discussion.

Haven't seen Trinity or Cov Cath, but seems like they should be in the above group. Most of the others I've seen in the top 20 are a step below, but not very far behind. I don't think there is a dominant team this year. Should make for an interesting postseason.

Most complete team to me seems to be Dunbar or Bowling Green. With Clementé on the field it is hard to say any team is better than Dunbar. Very solid keeper, a strong backline with Grabmeyer in the center, midfield plays well together with Roberts and Delgado out wide, and maybe the top forward in Ricky Clementé. Unless Ricky goes down (fingers crossed he does not) I do not see anyone beating Dunbar. I give Dunbar the edge over Bowling Green and Henry Clay just for the fact Bowling Green's back line is good not great and Henry Clay does not have a true go to goal scorer like they did with Ueland last year. Post season should be very exciting.

I don't know much about Dunbar but looking at results they have lost a couple to Lafayette and South Oldham? Did they have some missing players those game or not play well?

Lafayette scored a goal that hit the cross bar and bounced on the line and the play went on for a few seconds and the assistant ref called it a goal.

South Oldham was their 2nd game of the day after playing Henderson County and a day after playing Bowling Green so fatigue may have played a part in that.

I haven't seen them play, but St X appears to be a very balanced team that is playing well. Their two losses were first game of the season to Central Hardin and then a loss to St Louis University, which is the top high school team in the country right now. Outside of those 2 games they've only allowed 5 goals in 10 games (with 5 shutouts). They've played the 5th hardest KY schedule according to Maher and have wins over Louisville Collegiate, Daviess County, South Oldham, Ballard and Dupont Manual (3 in the Maher Top 10). They are evenly balanced on offense with 13 players scoring (top has 5) and 14 players with assists (top has 3). St X hosts Salesenium (DE) tonight, which is in the Top 50 high school teams in the country.

 

Has anyone seen St X Varsity play? Anyone going to see them play tonight, please give us a full report.

Not sure how much you have seen this year but Dunbar is good but not great. Step below what they usually are and a step below some of the other top teams I have seen. They can still beat anyone on any given night with Clemente, but they are not the favorite this year. Definitely not the most complete team as offensively they are a one man show, but that one man is pretty dang good.

 

But every top team I have seen has flaws, and some have big flaws. It really makes things interesting. There are probably 10 teams or so who legitimately could win state this year.

Makes for an interesting year !

Surprising result last night: Lexington Catholic 3 Dunbar 0. More proof that Dunbar is not quite what they usually are, and maybe Catholic is better than what people think. They will be the top seed in one of the toughest districts in the state.

LC loses to Boone and Boone isn't even top four in the ninth. Maybe getting the 11th won't turn out to be that bad this year.
