  1. OMG ....the 80's!!!!! Well my HS days were in the early-mid 60's. So please do not feel so bad ( I am still a kid when it comes to HS football in Greater Cincy area -live in NKY). Sorry, did not know you were that well versed on the KY playoffs. Should have known looking at your number of posts and the various topics you have covered.
  2. We will have to agree to disagree. When you have only 221 total teams, 192 making the playoffs to TOO MANY. (87%). Comparison.... Kentucky -Total teams 221 in 6 classes, 192 make playoffs (87%)...ONLY 29 do not make playoffs. Ohio - Total teams 715 in 7 Divisions, 224 make playoffs (34.4%)...491 do not make playoffs. Both states have 32 teams qualify for playoffs in each Class in KY; Division in Ohio.
  3. Play 2 Win .... the way KY sets this up does not take a single 4 team district and have "1 play #4, # 2 play #3 in the opening round. It's a # 1 from one district, playing a # 4 from a different district and so on and so forth. Round 2 finds teams playing other teams within the district in which they played the regular season. There are probably are some 3's that will beat a 2, but agree with you, not many 4's beating a 1. Kentucky cannot continue to have 192 teams out of 221 (87%) make the playoffs. Until they seriously look to change the format, first round games will continue to be a waste of time (for the most part) IMO
  4. Very simple guys.....too many classes. 221 total teams in Kentucky; 192 make the playoffs.....thats 87%. Either take the top2 in each district, or change to 4 classes. Leave 1A and 6A alone; consolidate 2A and 3A...... 4A and 5A. And please quit with the everyone makes the basketball, baseball playoffs etc. In basketball, Kentucky takes both the District winner and runner-up. That's crazy too. When you lose, your are OUT.
  5. SportsGuy...do not disagree with you. Adults are the root cause in many of these issues. But there are other ways to handle. Example....a few years ago (not many) Cincy Moeller was "accused" of trying to recruit 8th graders thru the grade school leagues, by a particular GMC (Greater Miami Conference) school. Rumors had been flying for several years previously. The OHSAA investigated, and found no wrong doing on Moeller's part. But guess what happened.... there were guideline changes made by the OHSAA. The big issue (NO ONE WILL ADMIT THIS), the GMC will not schedule Moeller in football (regular season). They basically are boycotting them. (Colerain will scrimmage them in pre-season). That's it. Eventually this will end (I hope). Unless there is criminal intent (then the courts get involved) the only recourse the OHSAA has is to take action against the member school. The KHSAA is probably the same way.
  6. More to the story here then you might imagine. The OHSAA does not tolerate having to deal with repeated issues from the same OHSAA member. As for the kids, guess what - they play for the school. The OHSAA can take action against the school; not against admin, coaches etc (unless there is criminal intent). How the kids get even...is for the parents (as a group) to call for resignations of those involved. That puts the pressure back on the Administration (and coaches), where it should be. Comments about Ohio....totally out of place here. They enforce their guidelines that's all. Undoubtedly, WVa enforces similar guidelines...... Ky must have a loop-hole somewhere.
  7. As posted earlier....221 total teams in 6 classes. 192 teams in the playoffs; ONLY 29 teams out. 86.9% make the playoffs. Why even play a regular season???
  8. Guys, I have spoke about this for years. Not to do comparisons but just look at some simple facts. Ohio and Kentucky are similar in that 32 teams per Division/Classe make the playoffs. Ohio has 713 teams in 7 classes (224 in, 489 out) 31.4% make the playoffs (all reg. season games count) Ky, has 221 team in 6 Classes (192 in, only 29 out) 86.9% make the playoffs (only 3-4 dist. gms count) Since Ky will never reduce the number of Classes, they need to take the Top2 in each district, not 4. 0-10, 1-9 teams continuing to make the playoff each year just waters-down how fan think of KY HS football. Play this game: Take a guess at what the margin of victory (average),after all KY first round games are played, will be. I will say at least 25 points (average) margin of victory all games, all classes. Some games will be 40, 50 points. Venues are another issue. In Ky, only the state final game is at neutral site. Ohio, after first round, all games are at neutral sites. Just using comparison to show the KHSAA, it could be done better IMO.
  9. Good news there. Lots of respect for each other. Other GCL schools and GMC schools should follow suit. I guess the GMC - Moeller issues are still lingering???
  10. Very good question... I am still trying to find out if Tom Bolden and Steve Specht (Colerain - StX) have agreed for another 2 year home and home starting in '15. Sources tell me the Colerain - StX series will continue because of the friendship between the two coaches and the respect these programs have for each other (but nothing official). I also heard that CincyStX definitely wants to continue to play in Louisville (Trinity, StX). Funny, a few years ago StX played both Cleveland privates (St. Ed's and St. Ignatius) and also played both Trinity and Lou. StX in the same season. Only playing one from each city now. By design, or "just taking a break" for awhile. I do not know. They keep things pretty quiet.
  11. ggclfan....my comment "without a doubt the best team in Cincinnati" regarding StX was just my opinion. Most based on the fact in the last 4 games (key people are back, especially the QB situation seems finally settled and they beat 4 good football teams (2 on the road). Yes, the Elder double overtime win was extremely close, as was the last play FG win at LaSalle, but that is just GCLS football period. The wins against a very good Warren Central team, and last Saturdays win against St. Ignatius should open peoples eyes a little. I know nothing is guaranteed, because at this level, and this time of the year, anything can happen. I hope Colerain, Moeller, Elder and StX do not face each other until Round 3. I feel all of those four, can handle almost anybody else in R2. I keep thinking StX as a # 2 playing Elder as a # 15 (if Elder does not beat LaSalle). But who knows. I agree there are probably 7-10 teams that could run the table, and with games (after Round 1) being at neutral sites makes it all more interesting. Looking at see how they will handle the Cincinnati teams locally since Nippert is not available. Could we have double headers at PBS?
  12. I agree... and that is what puzzles me at times with the thought process sometimes regarding how Ky playoffs work. I can see the game in Week 10 (since Lou. StX already knows who they wil lplay next week) not meaning much. But Weeks 1, 2 ,3 games did not matter either. In fact, only the 3 District games matter. Correct? While Cincy StX will probably be a # 2 seed, no matter the outcome of Friday's game, I can assure you Cincy StX will come to play.
  13. MalibuRunner..... well said. Some here just do not want to think "outside of Kentucky". And that is fine. They are content with their team success within the borders. But some KY schools over the last 10 years have been exposed to the 'National' lime light (Trinity, Bowling Green, Highlands, Lou. StX, Lou. Male etc). While state competition is fine, believe me when they talk and write about you, with the country's top teams, it is a whole different ballgame. Living in No. Ky., I see it in Cincinnati, with StX, Colerain, Moeller, Elder, and this year a very good LaSalle team (D2). If teams seek the exposure to that "next level", the only way you get there is play against the best you can find. Unlike Ohio, where every game counts, Kentucky schools only have to worry about their 3-4 District games. That really lends itself to looking for better competition. Outside of the District games, the others really do not matter (unless you are looking for the national exposure - then every game matters), as it should. Ky really needs to revisit their playoff system; it could definitely be improved. Really surprised some of the long timers here do not mention that more often.
  14. Again guys, what does Trinity gain by playing a KY 3A school. It is hard for some on here to realize that Trinity has played on the National scene. There is HS football, outside of Kentucky, that is played on a higher level. Trinity has earned that National identity and respect, I really doubt that they fill that 'open' date with anyone from Kentucky. Just an opinion.
  15. PepRock01....thanks. So Trinity and Cincy StX played those 6 years and it was split 3-3. To me, I would rather see the 2 teams start the series again, than have Trinity play within KY. I do not feel it benefits Trinity at all (except it's a game within the borders.
  16. Don't go there ths rocks. We have had conversations on another National forum) a few years back. Large public school in Indy. You bet, #2 in Indiana (bigger enrollment than any school in Ohio or Kentucky. Warren Central is an excellent team. So for the next step down in class in Indiana, yes StX plays Cathedral Prep, a multi-time state champ. In fact, either Trinity or Lou. Stx played them recently as well. FYI, StX played teams from 5 different states (IL, IN, TN, OH, KY) this year. Like I said earlier, I would likethen to start the series again. They have played 4 times since '09.. St X winning in '09 (43-13), StX winning in '10 (17-10), Trinity winning in '11 (17-7) and Trinity winning in '12 (14-13). I believe they played 3-4 time before that but cannot find results. Bottom line: two outstanding programs; they need to start playing again.
  17. Watusi...thank you for that information as I did not know that was the way they did that for the first four rounds. I saw a first round ClassAA playoff game last year where one team was 1-9 coming in, and there were no more than 300 people there. What $$$ are they splitting. With travel and all, how could the road team make any $$$. Ohio for example, all games after first round, are at neutral sites. Highest seeded teams get first round ONLY home games. Crazy in KY at a team could actually host 3 or 4 games before the State Finals in Bowling Green. To me, that makes no sense either. So the KHSAA only make money for the state championship games. I would imagine, that outside of the 6A championship, there are probably no more than 10,000 at any of the 1A - 5A Championship games? I shake my head. Thanks again for the information.
  18. People... it is Trinity. What do they benefit from playing a Belfry, JC, McCracken County etc. Trinity is thought of on the National level like several schools in Ohio. The issue I have here is that a lot of people are content with playing only Ky schools (exceptions Trinity, Lou. StX ). Did anyone look at the playoff picture in all 6 classes. WOW. The KHSAA playoffs are a joke. I lost count of the 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 teams that make the playoffs. As a reference, Ky has 220plus teams in 6 classes; Ohio has over 700 teams in 7 classes. Simply put, Kentucky should have no more than 4classes period. Too watered down......BUT it is a money maker for the KHSAA. Hard to justify the 70-0, 60-0 etc first round debacles played as so-called first round games. Only Top 2 from each district should qualify. This four qualifing is a joke. Most districts have minimum of 4 teams, so guess what....they all go (even the 0-10, 1-9 etc.). I would believe Trinity thinks BIG TIME....that's why they should step outside the Bluegrass if they need a game. Think big, not small. Just an opinion.
  19. Could always re-establish series with Cincy StX.....over the last half dozen years or so, Cincy StX has probably the best record against the 'Rocks. In fact I believe they have a winning record against them. Will need to check this out. I know there is a lot of respect between schools, coaches, and teams; only issue might be trying to work in the date.
  20. Oh, I think they will keep it close. They will have to slow down the Bomber running game, and force them to throw. Althought, the passing game has found more consistency. On the offensive side, the Wildcats need to establish the pass; I believe I said 14 points; the X run defense is their heart and sole. I do not see a blow-out at all. One turnover or one big play, could keep this very close. Just my opinion.
  21. Simple answer: NO. St. Xavier is without a doubt, the best team in Cincinnati. They have played another grueling schedule. Loss by 3 to to 9-1 Brentwood Academy in Nashville in 2OT's (missed 33 FD at end of regulation or they win that one. Loss to Moeller 13-7 (D gave them no TD's, only 2 FG's - Moe TD on tipped ball for Pick6). Last 4 weeks, beat Elder at the Pit, LaSalle at LaSalle, Indianapolis Warren Center (#2 in Indiana), and over the weekend a very good Cleveland St. Ignatius team. Settled in on Soph QB Shaun Clifford, who is managing this offense very well. 3 outstanding RB, and huge OL. Defense speaks for itself. They have established their identity and have been very successful running the ball. Will finish 1 or 2 in the Ohio Harbin's for playoff seed. This team has more sophs/juniors playing then any of the StX teams in the last several years. Usually a predominate Senior starting 22. As we know anything can happen on a given day, but i would look for a low-scoring game against Lou. StX. Bombers by 2 TD's.
  22. Coach Bolden will have them ready, and playing at home certainly helps. I certainly hope that he and Coach Specht renew this contract for at least the next two years. It's great for Cincinnati HS football.
  23. Highlands win over StX in a scrimmage? Scrimmage is a scrimmage. Did anyone see just who was playing, and who was not playing. No way Highlands beats this years StX team period. Moeller crushed Cov. Cath. Just what does one think Elder will do to Highlands? Colerain may be young, but don't count then out against a good Trinity team. Look who Trinity has played. Look who Colerain has played. Bottom line: Trinity by 7-10 points IMO. And lets get rid of the scrimmage talk...totally misleading.
  24. Sorry, but wrong. Moeller will get points for every game Cov.Cath wins the rest of the season. They will not be full compliment because of the Division/Class difference, so I can assure you the people at Big Moe want to see the Colonels win as many as they can.
  25. I guess I have looked at it more from a National perspective, where the entire season is evaluated. I like to see how the best from Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky match up with Florida, Texas, Cali, New Jersey etc. Exciting to watch Lou. Trinity play the last 5-6 years, they represented KY very well. I guess it is how one looks at things.
