  1. One problem, all other sports are not divided into 6 classes. ALL A basketball tourney includes 2A football schools, yet all schools are eligible for the actual State tournament championship. There are not 6 classes in tennis, cross-country etc. In Kentucky, all schools are eligible in all sports, but you have to qualify for the playoffs in football ONLY. I have lived in NKY most of my life. I just do not understand why all HS football games do not count in KY. (only 3 or 4 district games count). It's kind of like both the District winner and District runner-up in baketball, going to the Regional. So you lose in the district but still go to the Regional in basketball, and in football - you can go 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 and still be eligible for the playoffs. Makes no sense to me. That's why I spend more time following Ohio Football and Basketball....every game counts.
  2. Ohio qualifies 32 teams in each Division. D1 has 2 -16 team regions; D2 to D7 has 4 - 8 teams regions. It runs 5 weeks... the same as Ky playoffs. Not every team in Indiana makes the playoffs. FYI, there division vary widely with number of schools. Smaller school divisons have either 63-64 teams; larger schools division only have 30-32.
  3. Point being... the Class system (6 classes) for only 221 schools is a joke. Of the 221 teams, 192 make the playoffs (32 teams in each class). That is almost 87%. That also means you have 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 teams making the playoffs. All 1A, and 6A teams make the playoffs because there are only 32 teams in those classes. As a comparison, Ohio last year went to a 7th Division (split the big school division (D1) into D1 and D2. They have 713 schools for those 7 Divisions. Before last year, the same 713 schools played in 6 Division (so it was easy to play a 9-10 game schedule within your class or even playing some games a class above). ALL games count. Those two points, large number of teams within the class, plus All games count allows teams to play similar size schools. You will not find 0-10, 1-9 teams making the playoffs in Ohio. I just feel, Ky needs to consider some changes. I really like Ky HS football; hate the system they have to play in.
  4. That's the point. The Ky playoff system allows this, because only your district games (3or4) count. So it does not hurt (in this case NCC)because going 0-4 against the 6A schools does not matter. But what do these 6A schools gain by playing a 2A school. IMO, very little (they might as well scrimmage themselves). I don't feel it is beneficial either way. Not making excuses either way; just feel all games should count. If they did, I can assure you the 2A schools would find 1A and 3 A schools; and not have to "fill" their schedule with that many 6A schools.
  5. Trinity is going thru what Cincinnati StX has gone thru the last 3-4 years. Both play tremendous schedules (both in state and out of state). When the "great" talent graduates, then the above average (but not great) talent, is left with a demanding schedule and you may see .500 seasons. But both Trinity and CincyStX will rebound.
  6. Sorry guys, but that is what wrong with the Kentucky Playoff system period. Why is a 2A team having to schedule 4 - 6A teams to start the season? The KSSAA needs to re-think the 6 Class system that they have. With 221 team, you do not need 6 Classes. It can be easily refigured to 3 or 4 classes, plus all games should count (like Ohio). It's one thing for playing one "big" game a year (Highlands-Elder, Cov. Cath - Moeller), but for a 2A team to be playing 4 above average 6A schools, is nutts. There has to be a better way. BTW, NCC will have new QB tomorrow, and Anderson will move to WR.
