  1. Wow. That must have been an exciting match. Details?
  2. Highlands traveled to London, KY to tie the defending Region 13 Champs. HHS dominated and out-shot the hosts 24-2. Shots off the post, crossbar, goalie and defenders on the line. Need work on finishing.
  3. No credit was given to Stava on CovCath stats. Were they his goals or goals he created but officially scored as own goals? Just curious... and he should get the stats if they are his.
  4. I think NCC is hosting. Should be a high energy and interesting game - and likely not without controversy. NCC will have more to defend this game than they have seen this season thus far. If they can hold down the fort defensively I like the prospects for NCC on the counter-attack. I predict St Henry dominates but Muck'n'Schultz score against the run of play to lift NCC 2-1.
  5. Anderson beat La Salle 1-0 in a scrimmage and described them as "physical and quick." La Salle plays on grass at home either at the school or Kolpng so they are not likely to be phased by Pendery. Play tough, stay healthy Brossart.
  6. Eddie Schultz has an engine that just doesn't stop. And he is a really nice young man.
  7. Moses B. and Bogdan Shoyat (17) are both only Juniors. Moses played U18 soccer this past year, so he may age out and not be eligible his senior year, but he is definitely fun to watch.
  8. Two nice goals by Highlands (Nick Gish first half, Colton Dolezal second half) with a nice strike by Brossart's Cody Chism in between. Stars of the game were Hot, Humid and Hay... something you can only truly appreciate if you've had a 6:30 pm start in August at Pendery. Brossart may be down a bit, but no-one has told that to their players - they were stuck in and going at it hard for the full 80 minutes. None of Brossart's three seniors played Club soccer this past year... they all played well and I expect they'll to continue to sharpen up as the season progresses. This was third straight game Brossart lost by 1 goal. Brossart gets La Salle and Ryle next so the challenge keeps coming, but I admire that they just don't back down. Good luck going forward Mustangs.
  9. If a repeat of last year, please ensure there is an AED near near the Campbell County sideline.
  10. 100% agree. The 2015 KY state champs led the team goals against average category. Among individual stats leaders you'll also find some top level kids playing on good teams (last year including Wirth, Kidwell, Fischer and others). Individual assist leaders IMO probably correlate better to teams that may do well for obvious reasons.
  11. Look for Caleb Wilson to show up once Franklin-Simpson starts reporting stats. He scored 27 goals his freshman year and 63 goals his sophomore year (last year). Region 4 referees and ADs both voted Caleb the Region 4 player of the year last year (runners up were Aviles and Deversevich). People will knock on the quality of competition he faces, but if you've seen him play he's a treat.
  12. Kerry played on U17 KHA Blue last year, but the couple times I saw the KHA team play he wasn't there -- I don't know if he was hurt or had conflicts or what. Last I knew, Lemus played for a KHA Central or East team, but that was a year ago. Holmes' coach has done a great job keeping kids engaged at Holmes.
  13. When the kickoff was moved from the 30 to the 35 in 2012 the NCAA reported that the touchback rate more than doubled from about 15.2% to over 34.8%. 1/3rd doesn't sound like few and far between. In the NFL in 2015 the touchback rate was 56%. Interesting article here: NFL bumps touchbacks to 25-yard line for 1-year trial - SBNation.com
  14. Kudos to Beechwood for playing attacking soccer. NCC missed a number of very good chances to extend the score and put the game out of reach. Its early, but that could hurt NCC down the road. Score probably should have been NCC 5-2 or better.
  15. Beechwood keeper made some clutch stops both halves. Beechwood also missed a PK in the first half -- rang the crossbar. It'll be interesting to see the result of this one.
  16. NCC wins 3-0... lots of muck'n'schultz.
  17. NCC 3-1. NCC a little deeper and a little more athletic, but Beechwood will make it interesting.
  18. Moeller beat a very good Mason team in a scrimmage a week ago. They will be tough for sure.
  19. If you look at Maher for SW Ohio Division 1 Cincinnati area schools (making it more apples to apples) the discrepancy is not as large (Anderson starts at 13 or 14). Anderson beat higher ranked La Salle in a scimmage last week... it won't show up in Maher, but confirms that coaches opinion of what teams might be like this year could be more accurate than Maher which starts with where last year ended. The two should converge somewhat as we get a couple weeks of play under the belt. I feel like that's been mentioned before, but maybe not...
  20. Maher factors in whether game was away or home, Maher rating of each team, and score of each game. Madison Central tied a higher ranked team in PLD away (0-0) and beat two lower ranked teams away 4-0 and 6-0. All of CovCath's games were home and two of the wins were by a single goal. It'll sort out over time and CovCath's strong schedule means they'll have lots of opportunity to stay high in rankings. Plus, this year quality results against Ohio teams will posively affect Maher rating as well (whereas they weren't factored in last year). I think there is some material that explains what factors Maher considers. It's not a coaches or fans poll; no subjectivity; it just crunches numbers and churns out a results.
  21. Trinity scores 34 seconds in and the gets another before the 5 minute mark. 4 goals scored off corners. Trinity has reloaded.... no problem
