  1. In Ohio I was told for post-season the teams are seeded and they then take turns writing their team name into the bracket. Seeding based on standing in the final coaches poll. Anyone know if this is in fact how it works in OH? If so, is that better than the blind draw we use to pair District winners with District runners up?
  2. No doubt. And teams are built differently. Allocation of scoring is just interesting. Oldham County has SoS 19 and has a single player who clearly stands out in scoring (Jeff Thomas with 24). I was just surprised that the three top 10 teams I flagged had no-one yet in double digits.
  3. I think Region 9 is at Ryle for semis and finals. First round at higher seed. Not sure about dates or about fields for 1st round.
  4. St Henry coasts to a 7-0 win over Dixie. Nice to see Jared Isler score the first 2 goals for St Henry. The Crusaders moved the ball well and looked more like the St Henry we expected all season. Game did get sloppy for the last 20 minutes, but that happens.
  5. I can think of a couple: Louisville Collegiate (KY-2) Hopkinsville (KY-24) South Laurel (KY-44) How teams with no-one in double digits to date? These three might surprise: St X Trinity Lafayette
  6. Im not sure District #36 with HHS (KY-13) and NCC (KY-48) is what I'd call soft. NCC put up a good fight Tuesday night and it was a well contested game. District #33 with Ryle (KY-10) and Cooper (KY-33) I'm sure will be contested as well. I wouldn't be shocked if Cooper took the #1 seed, though I'd still see Ryle as favored. If CCH (KY-9) and St Henry (KY-22) are "gifted" #1 seeds by virtue of playing Beechwood (KY-110) and Dixie (KY-101) in their District finals, the downside is that they can't draw their own District #2 seed in first round of Regionals, leaving each with a 2 out of 3 chance that they draw either NCC or the Ryle/Cooper loser. Ultimately there really are no gifts given. You have to win 3 games to get out of Regionals and at least 2 if not all 3 of those games are likely to be well contested.
  7. I would tend to agree, but surprises happen... last year in the first round #1 seed NCC loses to #2 seed Dixie 3-2; #1 seed St Henry loses to #2 seed Cooper 4-2; and #1 seed CCH goes to PKs with #2 seed HHS.
  8. Many of the Hardin County (and E-town) boys play for Atletico Flames. The U17 AF team that won KY Presidents Cup for the past several years was coached by Central Hardin coach Justin Maddock. Suffice it to say they all know each other well. That was probably a heck of a game.
  9. Ryle is giving up less than 0.5 goals per game this year and has recorded 15 shut-outs. Strong work Raiders.
  10. Joel Grosser played fantastic (again) against Highlands. NCC could prove a tough out for a 1 seed next week
  11. Per KHSAA. Congrats to Holmes on a nice season. Coach Haggard has to be proud of this group of kids (and a great group of seniors in particular). Big congrats to Beechwood -- a convincing win earns them a District Finals matchup with CCH and then on to Regionals! Anyone have details on the game? Everyone expected a closer scoreline. Did Roy Carter play in goal for Holmes?
  12. Not "NO" chance. France beat Germany 2-0 in the Euro semis and then Portugal dropped France in the finals. Germany nearly lost in the quarter-final but Neuer saved their bacon. HC beating CCH is much longer odds than Portugal winning Euro 2016, but... If Holy Cross packs it in, Zach Combs plays lights out, woodwork looms large, and the game somehow gets through regulation and ET then... yes, I'd say HC has something more than NO chance.
  13. Congrats to Jamar and props to Rotary Club for making study abroad possible. Anyone know what country he's headed to? I think Brian Benito (sp?) at Holmes headed out at the end of the season last year to Germany on the same program. Of course, if Holmes beats Beechwood tonight the whole team gets a shot at Germany Thursday. Allez Holmes!
  14. Both teams enjoying good seasons. I give Holmes a slight edge and think it could be a repeat of the last meeting. Holmes 2-1 in ET.
  15. Wow... 4 out of the top 5 Region 7! Since 2009 Louisville Collegiate has been in Region 7 with both Trinity and St. X. During that time St. X. won Region 7 three times, Trinity won Region 7 three times, and LC won Region 7 once (losing to either Trinity or St. X. the other 6 times). During that time St X won States 3 times.
  16. ^ BGP... better than eHarmony. You two should PM and connect for coffee or whatever. The tension is palpable.
  17. I hope the official is OK. A pulled hamstring can be a real pain. I hope the Bros sat GK (Hildreth) is OK too.
  18. One of the better JV soccer games I've watched this year. Congrats to CovCath on a well played game. The younger Stava and Eric Curk both work hard and create up top.
  19. I wouldn't say Ryle completely dominated, but they definitely had more possession. Ryle has a deep and very talented JV team. As noted, their GK is very good and apparently a good enough ball striker to be picked in the first 5 to shoot for Ryle in PKs. Adam Arellano, Bailey Malkemus and Evan Paul were all very strong players and should help Varsity down the line. The game was hard fought with a lot of fouls given - that's partly a product of playing on a tight field. It was awesome, though, to see a group of young men from both teams who played club soccer together taking pictures together after the game.
  20. Conner GK had 3 or 4 great saves to keep the game with Highlands close. One came on a shot deflected on the way in that he was still able to dive and parry wide. Last year Conner upset Highlands at JV regionals. Conner JV is well coached and come play. As for the goal that came off the crossbar, neutral observers by the Conner goal confirmed it crossed the line. The backspin from clipping the underside of the bar spins the ball back out after it bounces behind the line. If you watch enough soccer to get in trouble with your spouse you've seen it dozens of times.
  21. La Salle is fast and athletic with some very incisive attacking players (I thought #4 Kahney and #11 Schraffenberger in particular stood out) and a solid defense (#5 Bell had great touch at CB). The Sabres are No. 3 in the Cincinnati D1 Coaches Poll (behind Mason and Anderson) and by Maher Rating would be KY#5. Highlands looked flat/was made to look flat by La Salle. Several strong individual efforts by Highlands went unrewarded... Solomon Farris got behind the La Salle defense several times but the La Salle GK came out strong. Overall though, hard to argue that 3-0 was not a fair result. Good wake-up call for the Birds as they come off a run of less demanding games... maybe just what the doctor ordered. We'll see next week.
  22. No doubt there is that blonde-haired factor (ASnow) with the potential to shred reasoned analysis. And the supporting cast is not too shabby either. Should be an exciting game.
