They lost two solid freshmen to Beechwood & some sophmores decided not to play this fall. Hard to have that, but especially at a small school like WV. Bad news is this is a down year, good news is the young players are getting experience & have some talent. They should be fine once they start their district games.

I understand Austin Lay has transferred back to Walton. It will interesting to see what happens at Cov Cath. Success can bring success, but sometimes it can work against a team. Especially a parochial school that can accept anyone they wish to. Only 5 can play for a team at a time & kids (& their parents) want to play. It will be interesting to see if there's any fallout. Meanwhile with Lay coming back to Walton and combining him with Clinkenbeard & the incoming freshman class, watch out for WV in a couple of years. Good luck Austin.

What coach does the best job of preparing his players & program to be successful in the offseason & how would you say he does it? Examples of things like ensuring gym availability, to performing individual strength/weakness evaluations, to providing strength training opportunities, coordinating individual & team camps to attend, providing film to watch, team building social & charitable activities etc...Curious as to what most do & how it correlates to success?

Last night in 5:30 games, Walton beat New Cath (Miles is now living & enrolled at Walton & Mackie played for New Cath??) & Campbell beat St. Henry. In 6:00 games, Campbell Co. beat Scott (closer than expected) & New Cath beat SK. 7:00 games, Walton beat Ryle & I didn't hear St. Henry Cov Cath outcome. In the 8:00 games Ryle beat SK & not sure what happened in Scott vs. Cov Cath. Top team so far appears to be Cambell Co. If all the players stay & enroll there, they will be tough. Walton is just a grade below, although once Bromwell is eligible & their roster gets trimmed, they should be the team to beat. Dan Sullivan, former head coach at Campbell Co & Walton, will be coaching these Bearcats in 2015-2016, so they should have quality instruction & see development. Ryle, Cov Cath & Scott should be a notch below & then everyone else. There are several solid players in this class.

5 o'clock games Cov Cath over Simon, Ryle over St. Henry. 6 o'clock games Walton over Cov Cath, not sure who won St. Henry vs. Scott. 7 o'clock games Campbell Co. over SK, Ryle over St. Henry. 8 o'clock games Campbell Co. over Walton, not sure who won Scott vs. New Cath. Didn't get to watch Scott, but Campbell Co & Walton appear to be the best two teams. A little difficult to tell though because most teams invited 10 or more players & played all the players evenly. Campbell brought their top 7 (all talented) players & it made a big difference. Thelen didn't play for Cov Cath & Rankin didn't play for Ryle, heard both are playing up. Miles & Bromwell didn't play for WV, heard both will be, but their enrollment has not been approved yet.

Also, I've seen most of the top 8th graders around the state. I would currently rank Dontaie Allen #1 . He has a good handle, length, athletic ability, and range. Not a bad defender, but could get better & sometimes settles too much on the perimeter. Nice player though & I think will be talked about for years to come. Moreno from Scott County is a nice player too, but not as well rounded. Kid from Elliott County (can't think of his name) has excellent range, good handle, & no fear. Many other players from around the state as well. Northern KY is certainly well represented through the 8th, 9th, & 10th regions though. Lots of future solid players.

NKY Squad is mainly filled with 8th grade WV players. They beat Lexington future (variety of Lexington kids, decent players, not great shooting team) by 15, lost to KYWA Magic by 20 (Dontaie Allen, plus an athletic big from Knox County, Former Mr. Basketball Mike Allen's son from Bryan Station & others; they were loaded) & lost to Taylor Made (team out of Louisville, nice size, & couple of perimeter shooters who brought in a 6'3" ringer on second day) by 3. Allen had approximately 25 points with 3 dunks in pool play against squad & the 6'3" ringer for Taylor Made had several two hand slams in warm ups. Squad is completely comprised of 14U players & has won two of the four tournaments they've played in so far.

I would agree with Qryche 11 on this one, but an upset by St. Pius tonight would not surprise me. I think Twenhofel's road to the finals ends tonight, too much size for Woodland. Woodland against Gray or St. Pius in the finals will be interesting. There's been some interesting upsets in this tourney.
