  1. CONGRATS TO E'TOWN. Simply the better team tonight. E'town defense played great all night. 2 goal line stands came up big. Caldwell only got 3 points out of those two attempts in the red zone. Caldwell's defense had a tough time with the e'town run game. Their offensive line blew the Tigers up most of the night. Caldwell defense came up one play short of ending game when e'town completed a big pass on 4th and long that lead to the hail Mary completion. Great game. Congrats to the Tigers on a great season. Nobody picked this team 10 and 3 in preseason. GOOD LUCK to E'town next week.

  2. WHO CARES? Rank them any way you want. ALL of them had special qualities. The sheer talent brought to Lexington every year is nothing less than incredible. Cal just keeps that door swinging wide open. No matter those that leave, their is another crew behind them. Since Cal's arrival the CATS are in the national title conversation EVERY year. Lets just keep it going.

  3. According to CalPreps, both Elizabethtown and Caldwell claim the same three teams -- Paducah Tilghman, North Hardin, Adair County in that order -- in their top four WINS (not overall opponent played, but best team beat).

Elizabethtown beat the three combined by more points, 62-55, and allowed far less (101-57).

Elizabethtown's best four wins are Tilghman, North Hardin, Adair, North Oldham.

Caldwell has Franklin-Simpson, Tilghman, North Hardin, Adair.

So while Caldwell has a tougher schedule, all it means is it has a better LOSS (of course, E'town doesn't have any, regardless of strength of schedule) and ONE slightly better win. If you want to pick nits that Caldwell routed better teams than E'town, that's like arguing UK basketball played better cupcakes than Duke in November and December. Big whoop.

After last week's performances against PT and Adair, E'town jumped to second in 3-A and Caldwell slipped to sixth.

CalPreps actually considers E'town a 5.8 favorite on a neutral field. Not sure how much Caldwell gets for a home field.

Elizabethtown's actually up to 15th overall in the state, meaning it would be FAVORED against No. 24 Mayfield (which Caldwell lost to) and No. 47 Franklin-Simpson (which Caldwell claims as its best win). So apparently the computer says Caldwell playing Mayfield and F-S doesn't mean much, if anything, when it comes to E'town.

That all being said, I would NOT be shocked to see Caldwell win. At all.

E'town hasn't faced a prolific passing attack like this in a while (NH being the best one, and E'town had its struggles when NH went no-huddle and two-minute offense).

E'town hasn't had to fight in a while. Don't know the last time it trailed.

Caldwell is at home. E'town has a looooong bus ride (significantly longer and colder and windier than any this season). And Caldwell is hungry after how the last two years ended, coming so close to the semis (E'town got beat at home last year in the first round and on the road in the first round in 13).

But to act like Caldwell is a two-TD favorite and will hang a ton of points on E'town is ludicrous.

The facts/data/history just doesn't support it.

If Caldwell wins, I hope the Tigers give Central/LexCath all they want (E'town has a long, and not so good, history when it comes to Central. Very few teams scare E'town like Central does. There's a huge mental block for the Panthers when it comes to the Jackets).

This is what I base my thoughts on. Caldwell will play a two minute offense the whole game. This is most definitely the best all around offense that E'town has seen, not just the passing game either. E'town has a good defense that mostly play zone, and I do not feel that will be a very good strategy against the offense they will see, Caldwell can really spread the field on you in a hurry. I wouldn't necessarily give the edge to E'town on the defensive side of the ball. Caldwell's defense is very well suited for the offensive attack that E'town will bring to Princeton.

I have only watched E'town on tape, and have not seen them live. E'town is a VERY good team. They have some really good skill players, and both lines seem pretty solid.

I think the difference may be how E'town reacts in a fight. Caldwell will not quit coming, and have been battle tested late in the season (Mayfield). Of course, being a Caldwell fan and them playing at home I will give them the definite advantage.

Having said all of that, I am by no means looking past E'town, and don't for one second think the Tigers are either. E'town comes in undefeated and playing very good football. I wouldn't be surprised to see a close one at the end, but I will stick with my previous pick.

    GO TIGERS

  4. The Etown vs. Tilghman score was eye opening...also the fact Adair was able to hang with Caldwell for a while when they were outclassed by Etown.

Entering the playoffs I thought Caldwell had a clear edge but now I think we are in for a classic.

    Just playing a hunch:

    Etown 34

    Caldwell 30

HATERS gonna Hate. Let that ride on. E'town has a good team, but to believe that Caldwell allowed Adair to hang around is absurd. Obviously you got your info from some twitter feed or box score. Let's just say that Adair was beaten handily in a game that was win or go home, and E"town won convincingly over PT in a like game. Other than an early pick 6 by Caldwell, they came out a little flat. Contribute that to Adair County or whatever you want, I have no doubt the Tigers will be ready for E'Town to come to town Friday. They have yet to come up big in big games, ask Mayfield. This game will be closer than the Adair game, but Caldwell by 15.

  5. The only player in the state that impacts a game on both sides of the ball like Daniel is Brett Slusher from Beechwood. I have seen him almost singlehandedly step up at crucial times in big games and makes play after play that stops a drive. Tough for a WR / LB to get votes for a POY / Mr. Football award but if anyone deserves votes from those positions it is Slusher. If Beechwood gets to the championship game, he will make plays there that will show everyone what I am talking about.

I haven't seen this Slusher you are talking about, but Dee Cain from Caldwell is the single biggest impact player I have seen in a while. When he is returning punts no one kicks to him. When he is on defense, all plays go away from him. When on offense, the opposing defense follows him around like a dog on a leash.

  6. Anybody in the east side of 3A except Belfry. There are your sleepers in this class. If one of these teams slip up on Belfry and take a win WOW. Bell Co, Corbin , Lawrence Co,Powell Co, Russell, W Carter, Casey Co. NO ONE has given any of these a shot at a title game. Definitely sleepers. Most, if not all, have been ranked in the top 10 of 3A at some point this season. Adair Co, Garrard Co, and maybe PT could be considered sleepers in the west.

  7. I have some questions that maybe you guys can help me with. Especially the ones with knowledge of rules. I have rewatched the game on youtube and have a few questions.

#1 around the 1:21 mark of the video, Caldwell #86 was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty. He was complaining to the ref ( H ) about a blatant facemask right in front of him by Mayfield # 42. I do not know if he said something to the ref out of line, but it had to be that, correct?

#2 around the 2:17 mark of the video, Caldwell #25 scores a TD and then is penalized for either taunting/ unsportsmanlike. Could it be he too said something out of the way, because watching the video his actions were minor compared to the first TD he scored?

#3 around the 2:32 mark, the cover up call on Caldwell #25. It is my understanding of this rule that in order for this to be called the player has to be lined up ON the line of scrimmage. Is that not correct?

#4 around the 2:58 mark, Bright dove into the end zone. Is that illegal? I heard several complain it is. Is that correct?

Several calls were botched by the referees in this game. The PA announcer for Caldwell was also out of line, IMO, to announce "Arnett back to pass". I felt that was uncalled for. I don't remember " Burns back to pass". I though the refs also made some good calls (maybe only after their attention was brought to it, AKA Caldwell 4th down when the sticks showed 3rd down), both crucial pass interference calls (one went against Mayfield and one against Caldwell, both on crucial plays late in the game). I have heard some complaining about the clock at the end of the game. The refs had it right according to the video. On the next to last play (the spike), there was 3.8 on the clock enough time to make that happen, although some assistance was given by the ref crew. I have no issue with who won the game. Mayfield played one heck of a game, as did Caldwell. The Tigers just didn't finish.

About 15 to 20 calls (or lack thereof) were made that are questionable in this game and one can only hope neither team will face that going forward, or ANY team for that matter.
