The Spanish Grand Prix was held today in Madrid at a brand new venue called the Madring, (see above). New tracks bring endless new possibilities, which is a good thing IMO. But after the practice round it was said this track is "a Fast Monaco", meaning it is a really cool track, but you better qualify well because you ain't gonna pass much. And that surely played out. Qualifying was fierce with Lando Norris pulling "one of my best laps ever" to pull a stunning Pole Position with Kimi Antonelli second and Max Verstappen 3rd. The Ferrari's were just below this with George Russell (the other Mercedes) just below this. So, off the standing start in the Grand Prix, Norris and Antonelli along with Verstappen raced nip and tuck around the rigorous Spanish race course and when it settled Verstappen got by Antonelli and by doing so allowed Norris the opportunity to build a few second lead. Antonelli was on Verstappen's tail, but it turns out that Verstappen passed Hamilton off the track, and he was told to give the spot back which he did, but he DID NOT want to. Hamilton went out early with brake issues. Disappointing. His teammate Charles LeClerc had a good race and sat just behind the leaders (and we will pick him up after this next point). Then the most important event of the race happened, as our rolling chicane, Lance Stroll spun and had brake problems too, so a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) came out. VSC events can begin and end at any point in time, so it isn't structured really. So, when the Stroll Chicane brought out the VSC, Norris was already passed pit lane, but Antonelli and Verstappen dove in quickly and chanced tyres from Mediums to Hards. Under VSCs you have to go at slower speed. So, Norris was trying to get around quickly, but he was slow during the VSC and as he got to the pit lane the VSC ended AND McLaren had a very bad pit stop of 7 seconds, which put Norris down in 5th or 6th. As the race went on from here LeClerc didn't pit and he led the field on the Hard tyre and ran 54 of the 57 total laps on that one set of hard tyres. He pitted and came out just in front of George Russell and claimed 3rd place. Norris would catch Verstappen on track, but in Verstappen's words "I just have to park the car in the middle of the track" and that's exactly what he did and held onto 2nd place. And Kimi Antonelli continues his stellar form and extends his Championship lead to 81 points. Incredible really. Next race is in 2 weeks at Azerbaijan, which is a good street course that you can pass on more than the Madring, so should be entertaining.

6A Christian County (2-2) at 6A South Warren (3-1)This will be the first ever meeting between these 2 teams as it is the Christian County Tigers first ever season being the results of the merging process between the Christian County Colonels and the Hopkinsville Tigers. But South Warren is 12-0 all time vs both of those historic schools. Christian County Tigers Information - (TP94 Ranking: 54.91)The Tigers started the year with 2 losses (vs Cooper and vs Mayfield) but have rebounded with wins over McKenzie High School (TN) and Daviess County. I don't know very much about the new Christian County team except their QB is former Hopkinsville QB Jasiah McCarley, who is a very good player. It could be said that other than Trinity, Hopkinsville played South the toughest last season. South Warren Spartan Information - (TP94 Ranking: 75.91)South comes into this game riding high off another dominating defeat of rival Bowling Green 49-17. It was a close game in the 1st Quarter, but BG never scored after that and South have several easy drives for scores. The Spartans are led by SR QB Camden Page who played very well last week. RB Jamir Boards is a good player too. Defensively South is still very solid, although I don't think they are at levels of past recent teams. Game PreviewThis is an interesting game and I think Christian County will give South their toughest district test. That said, I don't think Christian County can secure a road win at South Warren, but I think the future is suddenly much more bright for County now that consolidation has finally happened. Who wins this game!

5A Bowling Green (1-3) at 5A Barren County (3-1)This will be the 24rd meeting between these two district mates. Bowling Green leads the series 21 to 2. They started playing each other on August 22nd, 1980 (48-22 BG) and the Trojans beat BG in back-to-back years in 1984 (28-21) in Bowling Green and in 1985 (22-0) in Barren County. But since that time, it's been pretty much all BG except for two games in 1982 and 1986 (14-7 BG in 1982 and 19-15 BG in 1986). The Trojans are led by Head Coach John Myers, now in his 3rd season off Trojan Trail, and he has done a super job of taking positive steps forward in his 3 seasons at Barren County. They fell short of 2nd place in the district last year falling at home to a very good Greenwood team 21-17. So, is this the year the Trojans can earn that home playoff game? You tell me... For Bowling Green, the current status is pretty rough. Three straight losses in different fashion. Didn't show up at St X, an offensive shootout loss vs Scott County and physically worn down vs South. Can the Purples pull themselves up here in a game that matters in their first district game? We shall see. Barren County Trojans Information - (TP94 Ranking - 49.47)Coach John Myers Trojans look forward to hosting a Bowling Green team on the back of two straight Trojan wins (both home wins vs Metcalfe County 43-6 and Monroe County 35-7). Morale is high after also giving rival Glasgow all they wanted in a Week 2 loss 49-42. The Trojans are led at QB by SR Briggs Harris who is playing well. He had 161 yards and 3 TDs vs Metcalfe. SR RB Corbin Wells had 3 carries for 50 yards and a TD in the Metcalfe win and SR Jackson Stephano had 3 catches for 60 yards and 2 TDs vs Metcalfe County. Harris and Wells are also strong components to the Trojans defense, a unit that has only given up 19 points this season outside of the Glasgow game. Bowling Green Purples Information - (TP94 Ranking: 68.61)The Purples will try to pick up the pieces remaining in disarray after a second straight season of getting completely beaten against rival South Warren last night. The offense started well and SO QB Anthony Davis played pretty well and tried his best, but it wasn't nearly enough. It remains the Purples defense that is currently at levels not seen before. Hoping for a revamped defensive system on Friday Night in Glasgow. Game PreviewThis is the first district game for each team. Barren County is coming in with good confidence and should be very upbeat about this game. BG is coming in without good confidence and has to regain their focus again in order to be competitive in this game. Plain and simple. For Barren County, I personally think this is their best chance to beat BG since the 1980s. Play your game and don't deviate from it and you can have a real shot in this game. Plain and simple. For Bowling Green, the schedule finally lightens some for a team not near the level to utilize it positively. Guaranteed there is still a lot of pressure for this game. This is a district road game and it matters. This week of practice for BG is really important for them to regroup again and they will desperately need to come with some energy, as I expect a good Barren County crowd and a very strong effort from the Trojans here. Not going to be easy for BG here as some might think. Confidence matters in high school football. When you are stripped of it; it can take time to get it back! We shall see. Who wins this game and why?
