  1. Message me if u want to know how to take good volleyball pictures. I do it at a pro level. It is possible even in the darkest, smallest gym. Ball frozen, in focus, and bright. It requires a good DSLR to start, but more importantly, it's about your lens, not the camera body. And for all you weekend warrior volleyball photographers out there - you are never, ever, ever supposed to use flash at a volleyball match. If u don't have a DSLR with fast lenses at F1.8 (that lens that came bundled with your camera won't work for this) just leave your camera at home, or take posed pictures before or after the match.
  2. Seems like everyone is defining success by how many games they win. I always thought being a HS coach was about character, not W-L. Think about the greatest HS coach you know... And I bet they are great in your mind because of what they taught you about life, not the games they won. As others have confirmed, Mr. Collins has a checkered private past, on top of his public turmoil at previous High Schools. U can't teach a dog new tricks, and this just in - pro athletes sometimes aren't the best role models. It's a question of character, not wins.
  3. Are things are so bad at Cov Cath that the only hope lies with mythical 8th grade championships and 1 day of Freshman practice? Good luck beating Highlands with that.
  4. Volleyball is the top High School sport in Kentucky.... Volleyball named top girls' high school team sport in Kentucky But shares a bed with 2 others on BGP. Kentucky is considered a sort of hot bed for Volleyball, mostly due to outstanding teams from Louisville. Ron Kordes put Assumption and the state on the national map. Texas and California are the biggest volleyball hotspots in the country.
  5. NCC Varsity 5-0 vs who? Any chance they are going to play anyone? Could they face Ryle or Holy Cross?
  6. I'm talking about a lifetime pattern, not 1 incident, and has nothing to do with the 2 articles I posted.
  7. All I did was post his track record - u decide if it's dirty or a cheap shot. As for the other stuff I can't post, message me, I'll tell you what I know, and u can decide for yourself.
  8. Wow - did anyone do their homework or were they blinded by the name? I am not accusing Mr. Collins of anything, and to my knowledge he has not broken any laws, or has ever been charged with anything. His previous coaching stints at Mason HS and Springboro HS both contained controversy and allegations.... Star-News - Google News Archive Search The Bryan Times - Google News Archive Search I personally witnessed and know more about his past and his character, but don't know how to post without violating BGP. In my opinion, not someone I would want around my kids at my school.
  9. Good preview - looks like a 7-3 regular season. I didn't see anything that makes me believe they will get past Highlands in playoffs.
  10. Isn't that exactly what u posted in post #2? Gheez, get your story straight.
  11. I don't have answers to those questions, maybe you or someone else does. I agree expectations are high at ND, but aren't they every year? Isn't every year a referendum for every coach not named Dale Mueller, Ron Dawn, or Maureen Kaiser?
  12. Still worth posting. Sustained Excellence is never easy and should always be celebrated. Highlands Football is going to win state every year, so are u saying it's not worth posting about?
  13. I would say the usual there - North or South Oldham at the top, take your pick. I'll give the nod to South. As for the rest.. I don't see any surprises this year.
  14. Unknown, I would say the usual reasons. I believe team chemistry matters more in volleyball than any other sport. It's the kind of thing that is hard to describe but u know it when u see it... And we'll find out soon who has it and who doesn't.
  15. Credit PrepVolleyball.com, via Twitter, "Look for Notre Dame Academy to challenge Louisville powers Assumption, Sacred Heart and Mercy Academy for supremacy in the Bluegrass State. The Pandas, 34-8 a year ago, will be looking for third first state title in almost 20 years behind a standout senior class that includes LSU-bound setter Elly Ogle, Penn State-bound middle Heidi Thelen and Xavier-bound libero Meredith Klare, who anchors an out-of-this-world defense that also includes Micaela Stephenson and Kylie Colvin, plus sophomore sensation Morgan Hentz, a future stud libero in college who will likely hit outside for NDA…" Seems someone on here just mentioned those were the 4 best schools in the state . . . not a tough prediction by the way. I still say look out for Ryle, they are loaded too.
  16. What I meant by Current system and rules...no classes means for the most part no small school is going to ever win....also no limit on number of players from same club. For example, Ohio limits HS teams to 3 players from same club team, which means the talent gets spread around more in club and avoids a situation like Assumption where one club team overwhelmingly feeds the school program. You tend to get real good real fast when the same team can play together in both school and club, that can't happen in other states. U ask me why Holy Cross, I would say why Beechwood? Small school with hardly any top club players. Holy Cross has experience and size ... Should handle most teams easily.
  17. Region 10: The region is not loaded with strong teams and is up for grabs. Campbell Co made a nice run last year at State and they are my pick to repeat as Region 10 champs. I don't really see anyone else making any noise, maybe Scott? Region 9: This is a strong competitive region, loaded with good teams. I would say the 5th best team in R9 could beat the best team in R10 and for that matter, the majority of the other regions around the state. The top 2: Notre Dame: on paper, they should beat everyone. 3 D1 commits, with probably 7 more coming up in the pipeline. It will come down to team chemistry. If they get some, look out. Ryle: they have experience, skill, and their own group of D1 commits. Make no mistake, the game of the year in NKY will be early this year - Ryle at ND on Sept 12th (sorry St. Henry but your run as top challenger is over) The next 3: Holy Cross - good solid team. May surprise some people. Will beat NCC and St. Henry, but not ND or Ryle. St. Henry - will still be good enough to win most matches, but is rebuilding after losing 2 superstars that carried the program for 4 years. I have them losing to HC, Ryle, and ND. NCC - same boat - rebuilding, but better than the rest. Will lose to St. Henry, HC, Ryle, and ND. The rest: There is a monumental gap between the top 2 teams, ND and Ryle, and the rest. Every year I think huge schools like Boone Co, Cooper, and Conner will jump up and surprise and nothing happens. I don't see Beechwood making any noise. The bottom line: More of the same. The 4 best teams in the state will be ND, Assumption, Mercy, and Sacred Heart. Who wins State depends on the tournament draw. No public school will ever win a KY State Championship under the current system and rules. If one manages to make it to the Championship, it's due to luck of the draw and not having to play one of these 4 along the way.
