The Tigers will return 7 of 11 on offense, including 4 of 5 offensive lineman, and 8 of 11 on defense, including the entirety of a good linebacking corps (rising-juniors FB/LB Kaden Stone, and All-State Championship LB Caden Ferrell are two names that should be on your watch list).  We are pretty close to having full platoon.  In addition, during the injury pandemic the Tigers suffered, several reserve personnel got critical game experience and performed well.  Practices will be iron sharpening iron.  There are good numbers and pretty good talent coming up to the freshmen class.  The offseason early morning and evening workouts have had the best participation numbers in my 30 years watching this school.  Morale is high, I repeat, morale is high.  Kids want to play for the Tigers again.

We have to replace a QB, and that is likely to be rising-junior Amonti Marshall. Amonti does not have the polish throwing the ball that Brayden Clark had, but is a tremendous athlete.  Is it a downgrade?  As always, much depends upon the system Coach Clark installs to cater to personnel strengths and the performance of those around him.

CAL and Central can and do take players from all over Louisville, and beyond.  We can't and don't.  50 of our 53 man roster last year played middle school football for Bardstown Middle School.  We have 4 high schools in a county of 45,000 residents.  The district was a factor, but the bigger picture is being in a district with teams that are like us and where there is a level-playing field.  let's ask E-Town in two years how they feel about their district.  It does no good to speculate about cross-districting or 4th round play if you can't make it out of your own district.  I think Coach Clark made the right move, but if it turns out to bite us in the rear than he is the type of guy who will own it.  In the end, he's the one paid to make the tough calls, not us.

I was shocked Etown elected to play down.

Once Central made it known they planned to stay in 3A Bardstown had their mind made up. Yes that 4A district 1 is good, but I don't believe they are better year in and year out that CAL or Central.

    Christian County did as well.

Despite my feeling that Warren Central (and frankly Barren County too) made the correct choice, I agree that ability to do that is part of the flaws in the KHSAA process.  They do hammer home that changes are only made for geographic concerns - I think that should include the ability to play up.  Though, I do feel if they ever refine the play up ability in that way, that they should allow teams to play down in certain circumstances if travel concerns dictate it.

From a win/loss standpoint Barren and Warren Central made the best choice.

So what are we trying to get at with this that rich kids who can pay for lunch are better at football than poor kids who can’t pay for lunch. I think this has to be the most ridiculous topic I’ve ever seen discussed.

I understand the thought that areas with more money and resources have some advantages. Somebody posted the numbers I didn't look at them, but I'm sure on the other hand you have inner city/ independent school district with high percentage of Free/reduced lunch. I'm also sure you have rural county schools with high percentage as well. Not really seeing how that can determine how successful a football program can be. I would guess that Louisville Central and Johnson County Central both have a very high percentage of free/reduced lunch. Both have had success in football one inner city and other is rural county school. So not sure how classifying schools that way will make any difference.

Stonebraker made people in Casey County care about football, something that was never the case prior to his initial arrival. It was only a basketball school. Whoever takes over the position is finding both a program and community more accustomed to supporting good football and that's a leg up on what it had been for most of its history.

I would agree with this statement. Left it far better job than he found it. I would assume it would attract some solid interest. Peach and Cross would be solid veteran Coachs to take over imo. And some of the younger guys mentioned would be solid as well.

It's a lateral move at best.  He is originally from Bowling Green and played at Warren Central.  Casey County can't be compared to any job in Boyle County or Pulaski County school systems, but they have very good booster, alumni, community, and business support.  Definitely better than days gone by.

@Carl Spackleris correct.  Casey has only appeared in 1 regional championship game, but I can't see where Adair has appeared in any.  Stonebraker will have to change the cultural at Adair like he did at Casey County.  If the QB transfers in, and with Stonebraker's son, that will be a dangerous combination.

I agree lateral move at the very best. I would say that Casey is/has been the better job over the past 25-30 or so years. Haven't researched but not sure of the actual numbers, but I would say they've had around 10 seasons with 5 plus win season. And they also have around that many playoffs wins I would say. I can only remember Adair having 2 back to back seasons where they won a playoff game.

Who is the QB that is coming with him? Adair does have some decent talent, and if he can change the culture they can have a solid program.

  6. There have been 19 year old kids playing high school sports for as long as I can remember. Rather they start school late, or get held back in middle school I see no difference. Families make the best choice for their child. As the gentleman stated above some kids have no interest, and rather move forward in life. Rather that is college, trade school ,or work force and nothing is wrong with that. Others wanted the extra year, and nothing is wrong with that.

  7. For some reason Union kicked to one of the most dangerous players in the entire state to opening the game and he took it to the house. 2nd or 3rd play Union throws a pick. Union does a fake punt inside their own 20 and doesn’t get it.

IMO they went away from the run game to quick, and throwing 60 passes a game is never good.

did bardstown played bad against Nelson last week, or just held back with the play calling?

Doesn’t need to be ready now. Still has 2 years to improve.

My take: This is Cal’s exit strategy. He is going to get a few more kids that are going to stick around so when he leaves (after the 23 season is my prediction) the cupboard is not bare.

Therio, Sheppard, and Perry should all still be in the fold. Recruit another local like J Johnson out of Woodford Co and the new coach will have some players to work with.

There is something up with Cal imo. Seems very early to offer this kid imo. 2 years from now with the transfers and recruits a lot of moving parts on a roster.

From what I've heard of the coaches there the player that gives the team a chance to win will play.  Larue Co schedule and competition is meager at best compared to LCA's schedule over the past 2 years.  Have seen the Boley kid in person and on film.  All the intangibles are there, but camps and competitions differ from live games. Not a bad problem for those coaches to have with those 2 in their stable.

I understand 100% what you are saying. But I just can't see Boley going to LCA to be 2nd string.  But time will tell how it all plays out.

Essentially the KHSAA is almost in a "no win" situation because of new information, first time information, made up information they can't disprove, sensitive information, conflicting information, disinformation, misinformation, information information, and so on.

Correct.  And when you hear that 3/4 of the time the decision is overturned something has to change with the system. And to no fault of the KHSAA because they can only judge on the information presented to them at the  time.

Of course. Allowing students to transfer doesn’t mean they will automatically be accepted into a different school. That’s a whole different discussion. We are simply talking about families having the choice of sending their kid wherever they want without being penalized.

Do you believe each school would take it as a case by case basis? Or they would either have to accept or decline ALL transfer?
