Agreed, and for what it's worth...had he taken the Adair job he'd have been there 4th in 9 years. You said it all.
I guess I was thinking Gay was there longer than he actually was, as I thought the job has had more stability than Taylor County but guess not.
Folks in Taylor County are saying this Freshman class is the best group they've ever had come through. I think Foley will do a good job at Taylor, but will a good job be enough for the folks at Taylor County.
-
This will be their 5th coach in 9 years. Agreed on the hire if true...Jason will be more than a solid hire.
For what it's worth; he was offered by Adair.
So many of these "county" schools, especially in their area, have had lots of turnover. It's hard to build/expect much when places are looking at having 3-5 coaches (or more) within the last decade (or less).
5 coaches in 9 season isn't a good track record. That's the main reason why I think the Adair job was a better job last year than Taylor county. Going through 5 coaches in 9 years is for sure a red flag imo.
At county schools it takes time to build a program because they must be built from the ground up. You must get the little league going to get numbers. The amount of turnover is crazy. Coaches aren't giving time to be successful, I feel they need at least 4-5 to get at least a group of kids from freshman through their program. Such as winter lifting, spring ball, and things such as that.

Not to be rude...but should that even matter for Taylor County?
If this was a noted top level program who has been at a championship level then definitely I think it has merit for questioning, but this is Taylor County where a 2nd Round playoff appearance is a big deal.
If they Administration feels Foley gives them the best chance to advance their program and is the best option for candidates out there then more power to them.
I view it like an Arkansas State hiring a High School Head Coach like Gus Malzahn.
I agree 100% and I'm glad a new coach got a chance beside just recycling old coaches, and especially those who haven't won in their previous HC jobs.
I was just stating the fact I'm sure TC ppl will question the hire, not saying I am personally questing the hire. Taylor isn't a very good program and threw money at Hilton and pulled him in. Personally I think Hilton did as good as a job as could be done at Taylor county. 7 wins is a GREAT season for Taylor county imo. And their was rumors that perry Thomas would take the job.
I hope foley does a good job, and honestly if offered the Adair county job last year should have took it IMO. Taylor County has been through numerous Head Coach in the past 6-7 years. Seems that it's just unreal expectations for that program. As said a playoff would is an amazing season for them.

Rumor Mill has Foley the middle school Coach at one of the Pulaski middle schools. Yes I'm sure ppl will question the hire. Does Foley has any high School exprience?
-
And with John Hardin coming open I can see it making it even harder on TC
-
Which proves a point I have made. You can take a real great coach like Hilton and put him at an ordinary school with limited talent and tradition and he turns out to be an average coach.
Maybe we need a reality show about how a coach at a school like Trinity goes to Berea and see how they do.
That would be a reality show I would like to see.
To me showing success at a school such as Taylor County would be stringing winning seasons together.
-
Taylor County doesn't have any type of football tradition, I think Dudley has done as good a job as could be done at Taylor County.

Thanks for the info Watusi.
Also do those other Elementary schools field a 6-8 football teams?

A few quick questions about Belfry/Pike County schools district.
I also would have thought Belfry was an independent district. That got me curious and I went to the pike county school website. I seen that there are 5 high schools in the district, but Belfry is the only middle school. Is that information correct? If so do all the kids go to Belfry Middle? Or do the Elementary schools go to 8th grade?

Second, WKU is an absolute joke when it comes to pricing and fan friendlyness. That's why they have attendance issues at their home games. Concessions is highway robbery. I never buy anything just out of principal, I don't care how thirsty I am. Then their ushers which are third party people brought up from Nashville were harassing people about their seats. Cops even had to be called. They tried to tell just a few people the red chair backs were reserved for VIP and you had to have a specific ticket for them. That's never been the case that I know of, everyone just sits first come first serve. I don't even know where you can buy VIP tickets, but even if they do exist it was never enforced.
I ran into a similar problem a few years back with the club level red seats. I like you always thought seating was first come first serve since the majority of ppl at Club level watch from inside.
As for the Blowouts I would have enjoyed seeing the JC/Belfry game. And I would have enjoyed BG/T game. I also would have liked for CAL to try play a Belfry or JC. Personally I would like to see the classes cut at least 1 class.

DeSales put a running clock on Glasgow. Washington beating Metcalfe says a lot of Glasgow district.
-
Etown with a running clock
-
Metcalfe only has around 25 players. They have a very good QB and solid and a solid ball club, but I think the numbers hurt them and FS rolls to a big win.
-
Give them an A, they hired a very good coach once Harp left.
-
Wasn't meant towards that. I was just adding to what you were saying about good/great coaches making the best (or trying) with what they have(had)....and, pointing out that even the good/great ones in our state weren't able to make chicken salad out of chicken, well, you know multiple times in their career(s). Lol. All good!
I understand your point. And by winning I was talking about winning season. To string together 6 or 7 winning season in a row at some of these Rural county schools is impressive.
-
Even the good/great ones stumble.
-Tom Duffy won one game in two years while at Henderson in 99-00.
-He's not in the 5th region, but close...Bill Sharp and Russell County won 30 something games in three years. The last two? 1.
-Sam Harp has only won 5 games the last three years at Lebanon High School in Tennessee.
-Kevin Wallace was around 20 something games below .500 in 10 years at Warren East. Never winning a playoff game or having a winning season. Like Harp (at Danville), he's taken a Corvette and turned it into a Bentley.
-Larry French had one, 1 win season at Meade County that I know of ('98, '99..something like that).
-Tom Larkey has won only four games the last two years at two different schools
-Robbie Lucas went 4-16 in his 1st stint as a Head Coach at Lincoln County; even recently an O'fer season at Somerset, but there is no denying what he has done with that program or the coach that he is.
-John Hines at Pulaski has had 4-5 seasons of 3 wins or less at Pulaski County.
....whole lot of good/great coaches w/ a lot of hardware (or have been there) who have had some really crappy years...key the plural there (and, those are just the ones--coaches & seasons-- that are coming to mind at the moment).
Not sure where this is going, as myself nor anyone else said Gay was a bad coach. I actually said the exact opposite.
-
Will the coach leaving at Russell Co. effect Stotts in any way?
-
Who else beside the Stephens guy has applied for the job?
-
The way I look at it average coaches win with good talent, good coaches win with average talent, great coaches win no matter the talent. I personally would have liked for Gay to stay to see if he could have beat E-Town or Caldwell with this group. I would have also liked to see what he could have done after this group left. But thats me being selfish as I like having good coaches and good programs around the 5th region area.
-
I'm honestly surprised Gatewood stayed at TC after Sloan left, guess he had something up his sleeve already.
-
You can walk to Mr. Gatti's in front of the school.
Building a new high school not walking distance to Gatti's. Has to be the Druthers breakfast buffet lol
-
So who do the players and parents want? Are they even sure that the guy they want has applied for the job? As another poster mentioned high school coaches will need a teaching position in a area they are certified. Is there a teaching position open in the area for that coach that they want? I would think you would want Gay in the process as he knows who would do the best job IMO. Why are they against Stephens?

What is the latest on the Caverna and Adair County jobs? Spring football is here and I'm wondering how close they are to making a hire.
-
I seen their JV team play and looked to have some very talented players coming through the ranks.
Open Job: Taylor County

Ok I ran both of Graves tenures together and forgot about Teague. Your 100% in county schools when you have numbers and talent it's time to win some games. As i said I think Foley will do very well.
