  1. Calloway was early season favorite for a lot of people in the first region. They have now lost 4 out of 5 and seem to be fading. Marshall, on the other hand, is on fire.
  2. Dominating performance by Marshall who may be playing the best Basketball in the first region right now. They avenged a loss to Murray a few weeks ago and set up a rubber match with Calloway County in the District final.
  3. St Mary punches their Regional ticket and sets up a rubber match with McCracken in the District finals on Friday. Tilghman misses Regional tournament for only the 3rd time in the last 40 seasons.
  4. Unexpected late season struggles. Still very talented.
  5. I have believed all year long that the region was going to be won by one of three teams, Graves, Calloway or McCracken. A week ago I posted on here that I thought the most likely to win the region in order was Graves, Calloway, McCracken, Marshall, St Mary, Tilghman. Calloway has now lost 2 of its last 3 games at Marshall and at home to Tilghman. Marshall recently lost at home to Murray. Tilghman recently lost at McCracken by 20 points. Graves has lost 3 games all season to Kentucky teams. One in a fairly close game at Hopkinsville and twice to McCracken. McCracken lost twice to Calloway, lost at Marshall and 10 days ago lost by 16 at St Mary, although they did beat St Mary the next night. St Mary got soundly beaten at Marshall and lost at Tilghman by 5 less than two weeks ago. The region is almost undefinable. I believe Graves is the favorite at this point, but they will not want to play McCracken if possible. McCracken didn't just beat them twice they handled them. Matchups are going to play a huge role. And what is going on with Calloway? They are the most talented team in the region but they appear to be digressing. Watching these next couple of weeks will be very interesting.
  6. Again, the first region is impossible to figure out.
  7. Not really fair to the 4th. Christian Fellowship doesn't compete in District play or the tournament. Without them that is actually a pretty strong District.
  8. A valid point can be made that as many as 6 teams have a chance to win Region 1. One way to try and setup a hierarchy is those top 6 teams records against the others in the group. Here are those records. Graves 5-2 McCracken 6-4 Marshall 6-4 Calloway 3-2 St Mary 2-4 Tilghman 1-7 Using this method I think you can likely boil the first region down to a four team race. Now how do those four teams do against each other? Graves 3-2 Calloway 3-2 McCracken 3-3 Marshall 2-4 Probably too close to call still so lastly how do those teams do against each other away from home? Graves 2-1 Calloway 1-1 McCracken 1-2 Marshall 0-3 Using these breakdowns at this point I think you have to say the Region is a 3 or maybe 4 team race as teams will have to be able to win away from home. Based on this I would rank the probability of winning the region like this. 1 Graves 2 Calloway 3 McCracken 4 Marshall 5 St Mary 6 Tilghman
  9. First Region tourney is always at Murray State University. You would think that would be an advantage for Calloway but usually Marshall and Graves are the teams with the biggest crowds. McCracken's fan support is the wildcard this year. They have had huge student sections for nearly every game. Not much of a home court advantage for anyone.
  10. First Region tournament will be off the chain. Any of Calloway, Graves, McCracken, Marshall or St Mary/Tilghman seemingly can win it. The question is which team is most likely to win 3 games in a row.
  11. Another big win at home for Marshall. At this point the 1st region is impossible to decipher. Rentfrow with 26 for Marshall.
  12. Marshall has been tough on some of the top teams in the region at home.
  13. Dominating win by McCracken to claim the number 1 seed in the 2nd District. Tilghman will play St Mary in first round of District Tournament.
  14. I actually got the 3rd District wrong. Graves plays at Mayfield tonight. If Graves wins they are the 1 seed. If Mayfield wins they will be tied and a coin flip will occur.
  15. There is only one game left that affects the District Tournament matchups in Region 1 at this point. Paducah Tilghman plays at McCracken Friday night to settle the District 2 seeding. If McCracken wins they are the number 1 seed and will play CCA. St Mary would be the 2 and Tilghman would be the 3. If Tilghman wins there will be a three way tie between McCracken, St Mary and Tilghman and coin flips will determine. The other District matchups: 1st District at Fulton City 1 - Hickman County vs. 4 - Fulton City 2 or 3 - Carlisle County vs. 2 or 3 - Fulton County 3rd District at Mayfield 1 - Graves (bye) 2 - Mayfield vs. 3 - Ballard Memorial 4th District at Marshall County 1 - Calloway (bye) 2 or 3 - Marshall County vs. 2 or 3 - Murray
  16. Chumbler 24, Armstrong 16 for McCracken. Hubert 19 for St Mary. McCracken led most of the game and led by 10 starting the 4th. St Mary battled back to tie with 30 seconds left.
  17. Nail-biter. McCracken can clinch 1st seed in 2nd District with win over Tilghman at McCracken on Friday. If Tilghman wins its a three way tie with St Mary also.
  18. Exactly. The 2-3 game will be brutal. FYI, the tournament is at McCracken this year.
  19. St Mary, Tilghman, McCracken, CCA
  20. At Graves which is really impressive. Marshall beat Tilghman at Marshall on a buzzer beater a week ago and Tilghman beat St Mary Friday night. If McCracken beats St Mary tonight at McCracken then the Tilghman at McCracken game becomes huge on Friday.
  21. Tilghman is very quickly improving. What a wide open region.
  22. St Mary is clearly a regional contender and tomorrow's rematch at McCracken is now huge.
  23. McCracken's three leading scorers are guards and it seems Graves has had a tough time matching up with them in the first two games. On the other hand, McCracken has had a hard time matching up against Calloway's size and lost two close games.
