Both teams played Cooper (Cov Cath 2 Cooper 1) (West Jessamine 2 Cooper 2) and both played Dunbar (Cov Cath 2 Dunbar 3) (West Jessamine 0 Dunbar 1) I'll go with the Colonels also.

It has been a fun ride with these boys. I’ve been watching them play now together for 5 years and reality set in tonight that this is it. Proud of these Cougars and what they have accomplished as a group. Watching my favorite Cougar give his all tonight was all I could ask for as I watched him walk of the field for the last time.

Congratulations to Covington Catholic, they best the Cougars 4-1 in the championship game. The Colonels dominated the midfield and that was the key to the game in my opinion.

Heard from a very reliable source on the sidelines for Conner that the Highlands coach was dropping profanity all game at the ref’s. Very unprofessional for a high school coach to do that….then at the end he engaged with the Conner player taking the throw in and starting cussing towards the player. Coaches need to do better, I know it’s an emotional game and everyone wants to win but to cuss like that as a leader of the program and then engage with an opposing player as an adult…,I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too all the time.

Maybe the 9th should just do what the 6th Region just went to and that is a super-regional. All the teams play in the regional tournament and the winner advances. The district tournament would come to an end in the 9th. Hey...I've been there though. It sucks seeing your team lose but I have to admit Highlands and NCC both have good players that play hard and they have good coaches who make adjustments. Congratulations to all the teams who advance and to the seniors who still get to lace them up one more time. Enjoy the ride boys!

Conner 2 Dixie 1 WOW! This was a battle. 0-0:at the half. Conner missed two chances in the first half but capitalize off a corner with the ball bouncing around the Cougars find the back of the net to take the 1-0 lead in the 2nd half. Dixie would answer with less than 10 minutes off a direct free kick just outside the box to make it 1-1. Then off a corner the with 3 minutes remaining the Cougars find the back of the net again. The game ended with controversial decision by the center ref. Conner cleared the ball with less than 15 seconds to the side, a Cougar player got the ball and attacked scoring with 1 second….Cougars go crazy and then the ref calls the two coaches over to explain the ball went out of bounds Dixie throw in. They put 15 seconds back on the clock after time had expired and Dixie gets the throw in and Conner gets founded with 1 second left ending he game at that point. Crazy game.

Here it is…these will be some interesting games on Monday. Cooper beat NCC 3-2 @ Morscher Field Cov Cath beat St Henry 1-0 @ St Henry Beechwood beat Highlands @ Beechwood 1-0 Dixie Heights beat Conner @ Conner 3-2 I believe Dixie and Conner are the only teams missing key contributors to their team All games are Monday The games are played at the home field of the team listed on the top of the bracket Second round games are at Holmes on Wednesday, first game at 5:30 and second game at 7:30. Final is on Saturday at 5:30 at Holmes. Region 9 winner will host the winner of Region 12. The winner of this game will travel to play the winner of Region 14 or 15. Just my opinion, whoever comes out of the 9th has a very good chance to make it to the final 4 where they would play the winner of Region 2,3,5,or 8 for a shot at the championship game at Lexington Sporting

Cooper wins the 33rd District in over time with the golden boot score off a throw in. Conner has a huge injury with Grady Noble early in the 1st half that took him out and will be out probably for a while. Congratulations to the Jag-u-ars, they battled all night.

Dixie wins a thriller on Donaldson Pike. I wasn’t there but heard it had everything. PK’s, red cards, extra time, penalty shootout. The Colonels win in PK shootout and will now play a home game vs a district runner up on Monday @ Dixie.

Not sure it makes a huge difference, but Conner will be missing their kick-off, punter, kicker Mason Ginn as he will playing in the championship game of the 33rd District soccer game verses Cooper on Thursday at Ryle. Ginn has not missed a PAT this year but has had a couple blocked by Boone as they busted through the offensive line last week. No field goals for Ginn this season as he has only attempted 1 from 42 yards that hit off the upright for the miss. This seems like a game a missed PAT or field goal could make a difference.

Yes...Regions are at Holmes this year.

Now the season gets real and can come to an end very quickly. After this week 5 teams in the 9th Region will see their season end. 33rd District Conner vs Boone - Going with my Cougars in a tight battle Ryle vs Cooper - Going with the Jaguars on this one...just a bad matchup for the Raiders 34th District St. Henry vs Villa Madonna - just a couple of weeks ago this was a 1-0 win for St. Henry. Do the Vikings pack it in and go to PK's? Dixie Heights await the winner 35th District Covington Catholic vs Holy Cross - Cov Cath walks away with the win Beechwood vs Holmes - The Tigers get the win 36th Highlands vs Newport Central Catholic - Highlands wins and look to make a deep run in the regional

And that's a wrap! The regular season for high school soccer has officially come to an end. 8 weeks flew by like sand through the hourglass. Let's take a look at some of the games this last week. St. Henry can't get the win against the Colonels of Covington Catholic but do pick up a win against the Raiders of Ryle. Cooper beats up on Gallatin County and Conner is trending in the wrong direction going into districts with a 0-4 loss at the hands of Bryan Station, granted a lot of bench players played in this game. Dixie gets the win over Boone County but lose one of the top players in the region with the last name Bolte. Beechwood ends the season with a win against Villa and I believe NCC close out Morscher Field with a win against Calvary. Forgive any errors...as a reminder this is just 9th vs 9th region numbers.

NCC has a really good goalie who has probably kept them in a lot of games. Starting with 8 down those teams could probably beat each other on any given day in my opinion. Conner is a solid 4, they’ve beaten every team below them, only got a half against Cov Cath, played Dixie tough and have scored the most goals on them. The only team to really surprise me vs Conner is St Henry but one of their main players didn’t play and they had a couple injuries during that game…but St Henry is legit. I know I have Cov Cath #1, but this year the 9th Region is Dixie’s to lose, they have the talent to win it.

As we enter this last week of the regular season let's take a look at the final regular season rankings and games to watch this week. Covington Catholic (5-0-2) - Big week as they face St. Henry. Last year the Crusaders beat them. Dixie Heights (8-1-0) - The Red Colonels are looking like a contender; they have 1 game this week. St. Henry (8-1-0) - They are tough, this week will be a test for them. Conner (7-3-0) - Reality hits the senior class this week...time to focus and progress in districts and regions. Highlands (4-5-1) - Nice win over Cooper. They seem to be progressing each week. Ryle (4-3-1) - The Raiders could make some noise this week. Cooper (4-5-0) - This team has talent, but just haven't put it all together yet. Beechwood (3-5-1) - Tigers end the season verses Villa Madonna. Villa Madonna (2-5-0) - Vikings could move up a spot this week. Newport Central Catholic (3-6-0) - I'm assuming this is their last week at Morscher Field as the new field on the hill should be completed by next season. Boone County (1-7-1) - Rebels got their first win last week against a 9th Region foe. Holmes (1-3-0) - Go Bulldogs! Holy Cross (1-7-0) - Next year... Games to watch Tuesday Beechwood @ Villa Madonna - End of season ranking game. Boone County @ Dixie Heights - What an upset this would be. In 1989 these teams were in the same district. Covington Catholic @ St. Henry - Big game right here...can St. Henry get the win? Wednesday Holy Cross @ Holmes - Battle of Covington. Thursday Holmes @ Newport Central Catholic St. Henry @ Ryle - This game probably means more to St. Henry than Ryle.
