  1. Coach Lewis will do an excellent job...Will he continue to be the defensive coordinator? Good luck Coach!
  2. It has been said that Coach Eviston and Coach Brannen had a very candid discussion regarding the football players at NewCath. Coach Brannen was the person that started the conversation. Does anyone recall Coach Brannen's quote in the newspaper regarding football players prior to the basketball season beginning...while Gray, Franzen, Haas, and Neff are preparing for the state title. There are up and coming kids giving up football due to the perception that is out in the public regarding the NewCath basketball team and how kids that play football are treated differently because they are not attending all summer workouts, etc. It is what it is, perception is reality!
  3. Much closer score than I anticipated...any stats? Sounds like the Young Red Colonels are continuing to grow more each game.
  4. If you weren't there, you missed one of the BEST games in NKY in many years. Congrats to the Breds, the Senior Leadership on this team showed up tonight. A lot of standing around by Holmes waiting for Bolden to make something happen. Breds played team basketball, and the bigs did not allow many second chance baskets on defense. Bolden is the real deal....Pangallo showed what he is made of tonight at 60%, kid is a fighter! Brannen played 8 kids...Weyer playing the least off the bench. NewCath will have the mental edge going into the region, in my opinion this is a huge benefit!
  5. No doubt, I wouldn't suggest that he lock in so fast! Wishing Reggie nothing but the best and most success.
  6. Dixie biggest rival, yes. I would say Holmes is the biggest rival for the Blue Colonels regarding basketball...even more so with Listerman on the sidelines for Holmes. Blue Colonels win big tonight...Red Colonels do not have enough experienced support for Hatton. The young Red Colonels have grown up a lot throughout the season, just not quite there yet. Good Luck to the Colonels!
  7. Both teams will lay it on the line tonight...mentally this victory will be huge when the regional tournament comes upon us. We can discuss skill sets, etc...we can't forget these are kids and the mental advantage is huge! Can Holmes stop the NewCath bigs...Can NewCath slow down the Dawgs...will the shot drop from 3 point land?
  8. Recently heard Dayton and Morehead are still options. As Bandit indicated, campus visits will be taking place. Wish Ben nothing but the best, great young man.
  9. Cooper is coming alive and playing well at both ends. Big Lou will get his, Coach Sully will have these boys geared up and ready to make a run in the regional tournament.
  10. Looks like a carry to me as well...no call, shot is good!
  11. This will be a very interesting game to say the least. I am not sure if Holmes has faced a duo like McDonald and Shulte on the inside. The question is who will guard Bolden and keep him out of the middle of the floor. Siebert continues to take on the difficult assignments for NewCath with success, his length and athletic ability will be something new for Bolden to face. NewCath struggled with gaurding Hicks from Trinity...this will create an interesting evening of basketball in NKY! If NewCath can handle the fullcourt man to man pressure & both teams are knocking down shots from the outside...this game will be decided in the last few minutes if the big men for NewCath stay out of foul trouble. I like NewCaths chances...this will not be the first quick athletic team they have faced throughout the season!
  12. Congratulation to Ben! Ben has put in a lot of hard work over the years on the football field and most importantly in the classroom. I am not positive, but can only assume he will be getting some support from the academic department for his scholastic record at Simon Kenton. Ben is a great young man with a very supportive family that has and will continue to support him throughout all of his endeavors! Good luck Ben!
  13. You are implying coaches do not make mistakes but 1% of the time...I have to disagree with you on this one as well. Watching many years whether it be girls or boys basketball, as we are discussing, many things come into play with kids getting more minutes than others, etc. As stated earlier, your words...Covington is not a "local" on the "Hill", Covington showed his emotions, due to the fact that "locals" were making the same mistakes that he was making and they continued to play and not immediately get pulled from the games. Kids/players are not as blind as coaches seem to truly think they are, the kids know who is related to each other, what kids parents are coaches, etc...these kids continue to play through mistakes, Covington kid is pulled and reacts due to frustrations....right or wrong, in some programs the writing is on the wall with what is truly happening and has for years. Did Covington over react at times, sure he did, do other kids on the hill pout/over react, walk off the floor when subbed for, sure they do and they continue to get their minutes...Is that because of talent, one will continue to question that! The Covington kid, Jason, is one incident that has come to the forefront, this continues to happen at all levels and sports. Relatives that coach in grades 9-12 is never a good situation for the kin or the "outsiders"...Jason will grow from this situation and we are hopeful to see him in a Bulldog uniform soon.
  14. Have reviewed site for several years, watched kids come and go from different schools, etc...this one did not have to occur if a kid was given the opportunity as he was told he would have.
  15. Local meaning legacy! Look at the rosters over the past few years, how many kids continue to play basketball after freshman year that have zero ties(parent, brother, sister, coach parent, etc)to NewCath. Covington played with 3 NewCath kids all summer in AAU, NewCath coaches watched, and your saying he was not better than any of the 5 starters on JV? Come on Clyde!
  16. This will be fun to watch over the years. The differences that I see are the responsibilities given to each player: Zack - handle & distribute the ball---needs to continue to shoot as he has been, he needs/has to be another threat on the floor for NewCath. Bolden - handle, distribute, attack rim, and score whenever and from wherever. Bolden's length, quickness, and handle make him hard to guard.
  17. Anyone close to this situation knows there is more to this story than your "free" advice! I do not know about Jimmy P's toughness but do know he talks out of both sides of his mouth to kids, etc. It isn't about being a tough coach, it is about a coach getting the most out of his kids by being up front and honest with kids, providing constructive criticism when needed/teachable moment, and also building them back up. This does not occur with the outsiders on the "Hill" in the basketball program.
